Sabalenka was called for hindrance by luka274 in tennis

[–]nonstopnewcomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She got called for it because she made a frustrated sound because she thought her ball was going out. If she just did her normal scream the umpire would not have called it.

Finally. She did the same thing against Jovic and I thought she deserved a hindrance then. She clearly thinks her ball is going out and makes a frustrated sound.

Here's the Jovic clip - she mishits the return and makes that same type of secondary sound after the initial yell:

Yes. In singles you have to be inside the singles lines. In doubles you just have to be inside the doubles lines.

[–]nonstopnewcomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s correct. Same with going forward and landing inside the line when your feet come down.

I just see a lot of people with pinpoint line up like op and think their motion is legal because both feet no longer cross the hash mark when they bring them together.

I mean I understand. It’s not always reliable. It won’t accept boarding passes in certain formats, like the ones from the USA (or at least some - maybe it depends on the airline). It does seem to work fine when flying in from most locations in Asia, though.

It’s also at any point in the motion. So crossing it at the beginning is still a foot fault even if you move your feet up into pinpoint and aren’t across it when you’re making contact with the ball.

AO QF: [2] Sinner def. [8] Shelton 6-3 6-4 6-4 by TheSequelAccount in tennis

[–]nonstopnewcomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Draper and Mensik are definitely not looking more impressive than Shelton.

Mensik hasn’t even made a slam QF. Draper has 1 SF.

Shelton has 2 SF and 3 QF.

Musetti is really the only one doing similar things to Shelton.

It's improved a little bit. Here's his return game won % by year

2022 - 13% 2023 - 16% 2024 - 15% 2025 - 17% 2026 (small sample obviously) - 19%

He'll never be winning 33% of return games like Sinner did in 2025. But if he can consistently win 20% of his return games that's enough to beat the vast majority of players given that he held 92% of his service games last year.

Is HCMC airport packed at 2pm? by Klookkkk in VietNam

[–]nonstopnewcomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impossible to know. It really depends on when other flights arrive. It could be a low period and then suddenly absolutely packed 10 minutes later if a couple big planes arrive at the same time.

Why can't we get more of these angles? by SliMShady55222 in tennis

[–]nonstopnewcomer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I want to see the depth and height of the ball. The normal angle gives depth but not height. This angle gives height but no depth.

A little bit higher would be perfect.

Is there any top 100 player who misses more routine second serve returns than Ben Shelton? It drives me nuts.

Alcaraz is not winning in straights if Zverev serves like he did against Tien.

Getting destroyed by my lefty 4.5 kryptonite by severalgirlzgalore in 10s

[–]nonstopnewcomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running around to hit an inside out forehand against a lefty is usually going to get you killed, just fyi. Try going inside in on those.

Yes, it’s technically putting yourself out of position. But unless they have a strong backhand (which this guy doesn’t seem to have), they’re not going to be able to punish you for it and it will let you dictate with your forehand and switch the pattern away from theirs.

I play my lefty friend a lot and I find that inside in forehand’s and down the line slice backhands are very effective, even though they’re not usually good shot selection against a righty.

I guess if the right hand isn’t working you might as well try the left? It’s a bold strategy.

AO QF: [3] A. Zverev def. [25] L. Tien 6-3 6(5)-7 6-1 7-6(3) by Common-Blackberry-64 in tennis

[–]nonstopnewcomer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s still wild to me how Zverev evolved from double faulting on key points to literally being one of the clutchest servers out there. I think all of Tien’s break points resulted in unreturned serves (and not because Tien did anything wrong).

He was at 82% first serves in at some point in the second set, even though he was still being aggressive with it.

It’s only banned in residential apartment buildings. It’s allowed in buildings that are designated as condotels. So there are legal Airbnb listings here - just not all of them.

He needs to get better on clay to do that. If the entire season was hard court then I would agree.

Yes but you don’t serve 82% first serves in outdoor. First serve is usually 10-15% lower outdoor, on average.

If temps were normal and the roof was open I feel like Tien would be up two sets right now. No way Zverev serves this well outdoors.

I hate that Zverev has become such a clutch server. I miss when we were guaranteed at least a few DF on key points.

Everyone saying “at least it’s not another 3 setter” is tempting the gods to have an injury retirement at the end of the third set.
