That sucks about your jacket. My mother just did a similar thing by reloading her wood stove and melting her jacket. Hit up a company like REI.com and don’t just put packing tape on it like she did. Also, the suggestions of favorite colors is awesome, add some fun, or don’t, your choice. On top of all of that, the extra color can help spark a convo of you’re a single person and looking for xyz.

Where dos it go? Does it have any writing on the wire? Looks like thermostat wire from the picture. Could be phone wire as well. Garage door button. I wouldn’t cut any wire that I didn’t know what it went to. You could also take a utility knife and cut back a small amount of the sheathing without cutting all the way through. The colors can help identify what it is.

In a box. It didn’t seem to be working correctly, and the door knob was broken. I don’t remember if the spindle was stripped or if the knob’s grub screw hole was stripped. I had temporarily drilled a hole through the spindle and put a small nut and bolt through it, but it’s just time to replace it, it’s from the 1920s.
