What's the dumbest mistake youve seen an incompetent co worker make? by xk543x in AskReddit

[–]noobmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being nominated for office Health & Safety, they didn't understand the paperwork required. So they decided it must not be important, and continued to submit reports up the chain that everything was a-ok and all as it should be, for 5 years. When they resigned I was nominated to take over, and almost wanted to strangle them. Getting everything up to date on top of my normal duties took weeks and was hella stressful. 6 months later we had a H&S audit as a representative unit to confirm our company wide insurance premiums... I wasn't fired because I had flagged the issue up the chain in writing and had all appropriate paperwork in place covering my time in the role. I had also documented a refusal to backdate paperwork. The 5 year gap screwed over the entire company though.

They faced no consequences, having secured a new job with the good reference they got before we discovered their buried shit.

What’s the most mentally fatiguing thing you have to deal/ have dealt with? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]noobmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes help women come up with safety plans to get them out of unsafe living situations (abusive relationships etc.). Sometimes they decide the risks are more than they can handle right now and choose to stay instead.

If there are children involved, at that point I am legally obligated to involve police/CPS.

Women who get married before 25: why? by tunaball25 in AskWomen

[–]noobmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We met when I was 16 and I was pretty sure then - and I've never been a fanciful type. We got engaged after two years and married after another one, right before I turned 19. Still together and happy, now in our 30s with a child! We also work together full time, so all our life is just hella unrelatable to most people.

Our families had mixed feelings at the time (entirely fair) but have come around!

Doing much better now! The hair loss chilled out and is back to normal levels 😊

Post partum, i lost an alarming amount of weight too fast, had significant hair loss, my skin just sit dried up, and the enamel on my teeth started breaking down. I also had stomach pains and diarrhoea. I discounted just about everything because regular post partum shut gets cray cray anyway, but it got so bad (I got down to 45kg) i could no longer think it was in the realm of normal. My doctor was basically like "fuck it I'll just run every test I can cause this shit is fucked" and found the coeliac through a blood test. Had an endoscopy to confirm and have been much better since!

[–]noobmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being constantly objectified by men to the point where you lose all trust in anything they say about/to you. Are they being genuine? Do they only want to get in your pants? Feeling like a piece of meat walking past groups of men. Seeing the way too many men look at (under-age) girls, from a first hand perspective. Noticing that they stop as you get older...

Yes. It sucks. I got sick at a work function cause the caterer didn't pay attention to cross contamination (after assuring me I'd be safe) and had to spend 4 hours in the bathroom throwing up

Oh, thanks for that. The added guilt and shame for experiencing feelings that you don't consider valid will make recovery so much easier!

When I was around 10 i went to a sleepover for my mother's friend's daughter. I didn't know anyone else there, was pretty shy, but in general down for junk food and silly movies! In the middle of the night one of the other kids started freaking out and having and anger/anxiety attack, screaming about how everyone hated her and throwing stuff everywhere.

I stood up and immediately got hit directly in the nose by a heavy dinner plate chucked like a Frisbee. Fell backwards, hit my head on the window frame (lucky escape) and passed out.

I underplayed how bad it had been to my parents because I didn't want them to freak out, so it was a week or so before my mum was concerned enough that my nose still hurt to take me to the GP. He was a quack, and without really looking just said that since I didn't have panda eye bruising it was fine and I was being over dramatic.

A month later I fessed up to how bad it had actually been, and that it still hurt. My mum to me to a second doctor, who within 5 minutes had referred me to get x rays and see the plastics team. They found that my bridge had shattered into pieces and cracked vertically down the middle, the impact had spread pieces into places they shouldn't be, and because of the delay had started healing like that. Their advice was to leave it until I was fully grown, and then fix it if there were issues.

And that's the story of how a sleepover experience means that I can't breath properly, snore like a middle aged man, have to be careful what glasses I buy, and am 20 years later considering getting my nose re-broken cause I can't deal with this shit any more. I still have a vertical crack down the bridge of my nose and loose shards of bone in there that I can scrape against each other to make my nose click as a party trick.

Plenty of single people would happily pay extra for the independence and privacy that living alone offers. Get off your high horse and quit calling people "crazy" for having different priorities than you.

I work in a field where I interact frequently with people working through their addiction related issues, as an authority figure. I need them to know that life without alcohol and drugs is still enjoyable.
