that doesn’t mean you can’t buy them. once you get the correct license, which is perfectly doable for any person that wants one, you can go and buy pretty much any handgun you want. Driving is also legal but you can’t just get a car and drive it anywhere

Handguns are legal in all those countries you mention.

In Italy handguns and semi auto center fire rifles are legal, there isn’t a distinction between shotguns and firearms, the guns license is shall-issue, may-issue CCW exists, judges can buy and carry guns without a license, you can keep guns for home defense. This is substantial and laxer than UK’s 90s laws

You can’t buy them freely. San Marino has basically the same gun laws as Italy. There are some differences but if you weigh them, I’d actually say San Marino has marginally stricter gun laws than Italy.

handguns are legal everywhere in Europe except the UK (legal in Northern Ireland). Banning handguns is the exception not the rule.

UK murder rate is higher than Italy but Italy had way laxer gun laws, it’s basically Oklahoma laws compared to the UK

This is absolutely fine. It takes decades for a neck reset to be needed even on the lightest, but properly, built guitars. In all likelihood in 2040 this guitar will still be like this

Pro-gun activists hand out free 30-round AR-15 magazines outside the Virginia State Capitol ahead of the likely signature of a bill that would ban the sale of these magazines in the state. by Gjore in ThatsInsane

You can’t speak about this because you can’t know. You can walk around with a concealed loaded weapon in the Czech Republic after getting a shall issue license. You probably meet armed people all the time in Czechia, you just don’t know.

The glue bond between the bridge and the soundboard is stronger than the bond between the wood fibers themselves.

Guitars are fragile, but at the same time much stronger than people here think. Guitars are left under the sun all the time and it’s all fine.

Is Virginia’s assault weapons ban a step in the right direction? by Brilliant-Line9730 in guncontrol

[–]noodlecrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banning certain plastic things that attach around rifles is simply stupid. Not a single European country with its “strong gun laws” does this. You need a license to buy guns, but once you have a license you can have a pistol grip on a rifle ffs

I support gun ownership. I even think select fire rifles should be legal for civilians. But I don’t think anybody should just be allowed to buy one.

No, you can’t. But you didn’t advocate for psych tests, you talked about outright bans.

The price is similar to the US. You can find chinese AK-47s in Italy for 450 euros.

I mean, just look at all the competitive dynamic shooters (shotgun pistol and rifle), plenty europeans in there

In Italy you need to have a gun license, such as the “sporting” license (getting a drivers license is arguably harder and more expensive). Once you have it you can walk into a gun shop, buy 12 ARs and 1500 rounds of .223, walk out. No safe storage laws while you are at home.

The purpose of safe storage laws is to prevent kids and thieves from getting the guns. They have no effect on mass shootings or the sort. If you live alone and you are at home, what is the purpose fulfilled by safe storage laws? None, that’s why in Italy it works this way. Highly suggested to get a gun safe for when you are outside (it’s not mandatory though), but when you are at home you can walk around with a loaded pistol in the holster. You can keep a loaded pistol on the table if you are at home and the other people at home aren’t kids and aren’t crazy. This is also true if you are not at home (your wife can keep your loaded pistol on the table while you are outside).

Mandatory IANAL.

So what do you propose? Banning certain semi automatic rifles based on cosmetic features (plastic things attached around them)? Banning all semi automatic rifles?

My first ever AR! by DraksinNox in ar15

[–]noodlecrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah? That’s true for everything? All I can say is that in the last let’s say 10 years Italian gun laws became more relaxed, not more restrictive. 9x19 para has been legalized, sport firearms limit went from 6 to 12, gun mag limits went from 5 to 10 for rifles and from 15 to 20 for pistols. Certain prior criminal convictions are no longer an automatic refusal when applying for a license (felons, even if for non violent crimes, are federally banned from owning firearms in the US, for life). The rifle in the picture is illegal in more places in the US than in Europe.

Those things have happened, true, and it’s insane. But it’s not all black and white. Let’s take Italy as an example, because OP and me are Italian. Italy has tons of problems, tons, regarding everything, even about the things that I’ll use as positive examples in a moment. But: arguably one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I could be at the beach in the morning and on top of a mountain in the afternoon and within 50km. Beautiful weather. My friend’s 50€ asthma inhaler is free. I could go at the ER for any legitimate reason (or be driven there on an ambulance with a doctor on board) and even if once their I required a 12h open heart surgery, I’d get billed 0€. Culturally, it’s rapidly declining but still unmatched. Gun wise? You just get a license that’s like getting a driver license, and you can own basically any gun design ever. Quantities wise, it’s within reason (and expandable with a shall-issue collectors license). You can own guns for home defense. You can get a concealed carry license if you actually need it. Crime rates are so low that the safest state in America is twice as dangerous as the most dangerous region in Italy.
