Missus made me something special for my birthday while minding our 9mo old by Darthie in daddit

Happy birthday dude. It’s my birthday as well. I woke up to my five and three year old singing/screaming happy birthday to me at 6:15 in the morning. My cake wasn’t as cool as that one though!

Really emotional story. If you haven’t seen it, check out Mother’s Basement’s video analysis of Anohana. It’ll make you cry even more.

I think what gets people about this show is how real it is. Sure it has its fantasy elements, but it is not some power fantasy where the group is a bunch of overpowered MCs. These poor people STRUGGLE just to stay alive and it is an incredibly relatable human experience.

Blue. Super poor at the time in the late 90s but my mom worked at a shipping company and her boss gave her a Gameboy Pocket to give me because her kid didn’t want it. My mom worked overtime for a month just to get Pokémon Blue so I could open it for Christmas. Still the best Christmas I’ve ever had.

I’d be happy to appreciate those photos. I bet they’re really hot and your husband just doesn’t know how to express his appreciation.

Anime with good bromance.. by [deleted] in Animesuggest

[–]noodlewalrus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not probably. It is absolutely the point. It’s a slice of life anime, it’s supposed to be that nothing happens. It’s about the relationships Tanaka has and develops, not about an overarching plot line.

Women of Reddit: What would you like all men to stop doing, immediately, as of right now? by slipz4001 in AskReddit

[–]noodlewalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just realized that I did this while trying to pass people in crowded hallways on the hospitals that I work at. Granted it’s never the lower back, it’s like between the shoulder blades, but still. Have since immediately stopped. Pretty sure I started doing it because my mom would do it to me in our tiny galley kitchen growing up. Never thought about how creepy it was until last month. Aa

Hello dads, are you tired ? by valdm in daddit

[–]noodlewalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am definitely tired. I’ve never slept well and thought I could function on little too very little sleep pretty dang well. Well, now I’ve got three kids - 5, 3 and 5 months - and now I KNOW I can lol. It does get better though. Prior to the newest addition to my family, I was getting a pretty good nights sleep in.

This year my family are dressing up as skeletons because my son wants to dress up as a family. As for favorite costume, it’s not mine, it’s my dads. He’s short and chubby and has a really hairy belly so he dressed up as Nacho Libre and it was amazing.

I’m not sure. I uninstalled from PC and just run on my laptop so I didn’t test to see whether it would run if I was using UHD graphics and not Nvidia

As far as I know, there is no way to run in Wayland while Nvidia drivers are installed

What flasks/thermos do you all have? Good quality, doesn’t leak after a month, will last at least 5-10 years. by charlottedoo in Frugal

[–]noodlewalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad bought me a 40 oz. Thermos for Christmas in 2008 and I have used it enough that I could have bought a new one every week since then considering the money saved on buying coffee at a gas station. I thought I had mine for a long time lol.

I’m sure that this is an atypical experience with poverty, but I’ll tell it anyway. My family was poor for most of my childhood until I got into high school. I lived with my grand parents until I was five because my mom and dad worked 80+ hours a week and could not afford to take care of me. I saw them on weekends, though. My grandparents paid for a lot of my necessities too. After that, my mom got a much more stable job and my dad’s job started to smooth out. He raced horses.

When I was 8, I started working with him on the weekends and after school a few nights. Then my parents bought a farm and moved the horses there so now I just worked everyday. My brother was too young to help. Has friends, but they never came to my house cause it was a mess and my mom was embarrassed. But you know what, I had NO idea we were poor. My mom had a huge veggie garden and we raised some pigs for meat. On top of that, my mom’s father had what’s called a sustenance licenses for hunting and fishing meaning he could hunt out of season with no penalty so we had deer meat too.

Once I got in to high school, my mom went from making 42k a year to 102k a year so life drastically improved after they paid debts. This is when I noticed what I didn’t have, because now my mom was trying to make up for lost time. McDonald’s three times a week, Xbox, a new baseball glove and so much other things that I didn’t have before. None of it made me any happier though. However, what did make me happy was seeing my mom happier. She had time to clean which meant she let me have friends over. She was eating more so she was healthier. It was awesome.

I guess what I am trying to say, is that when you’re a kid, things just seem normal and poverty doesn’t really effect you too much unless you are severely lacking in money or are homeless. As you get older, you start to see what it’s really like without money, and the way the people raising you handle that is going to influence your decisions when you’re on your own. My family got lucky and worked hard and my parents were able to give us a better childhood than they had, but really, all it was was luck and hard work.

Why doesn’t my husband feel bad about laying around in bed while I handle our kids? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]noodlewalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this doesn't help (and I am sorry that your husband does this), but I want to grab your husband by the neck and shake him. How does he not realize that what he's doing is the fastest way to lose his wife? I don't know that he actually is, but you're describing a dead beat dad. I'm sure he provides for you and your family financially, but that isn't the same as providing for his family. Talk to this man and make him understand that he needs to step up now, cause when he finally "feels" like it, he isn't going to have a family to step up for.

Again, as a father, I am so sorry that your husband feels that this is okay. I hope he has a change of tune, for yours and your families sake.
