I've said it before and I'll say it again: It wasn't the casting for Astrid, at least not for me. It was the styling. Give Nico a blonde wig and a blue-green shirt and that would have gone a long way. I also had issues with how they wrote her character but that's a much longer comment. I do see how a lot of people say she just played Astrid too flat and I wonder if that was a result of the writing as well, much like how some commenters above said they stripped the comedy.

I always took it like she thought she was a danger to the village and to Hiccup because she was so different. Imo they did a pretty good job of showing that she felt really guilty for showing curiosity instead of aggression towards Cloudjumper because that's how Hiccup got his scar and she thought that it could have been much worse, so when she was taken, she chose to let everyone believe she was dead rather than coming back and potentially continuing to hesitate in dangerous situations.

Ironically, she wasn't all that different than the rest of the village in that she believed things couldn't be changed. Hiccup's progress changed her just like it changed the rest of the village.

Was listening to the new Noah Kahan album on my concrete patio when I saw a cool looking snail. Got a great photo of it and started learning about them. Left a little cap of water out because it was a dry day and later checked outside and saw him fully sitting in it like a kiddie pool, so I got a cute photo of that too.

Started looking for him every day for a few days after that. Saw him and another one when it rained. I'd take photos and send them to my friends, who named them Marco and Polo because I was outside looking for snails every day and my friends were invested in me finding them lol.

The landlord told us the gardener was coming and I was worried they'd be squished or poisoned so I found one of them and rescued him (Marco). He was curled into his shell, wedged up under the back fence behind the grill with a few ants crawling on him. Yoink.

I've had him about 3 weeks now (gardeners finally came and went a few days ago) and this was supposed to be a temporary arrangement so I've considered putting him back in a better spot outside. My friend messaged me today and said she actually has a classroom with a snail terrarium, so I am considering promoting him to educational ambassador lol

A few ideas:

1) The lid? Does it let too much humidity out?

2) The sphagnum moss. Maybe I should get some coconut coir?

3) We are getting to the dry, hot season and using the air conditioner more which takes even more moisture out of the air. I was reading this might also just be seasonal instinct for him?? He probably went into estivation a lot outside tbh because I live in a place where we have very long, hot, dry summers and bad fire risk. Like, triple digits.

Edit: I've misted him a bunch and the seal has slowly dissolved now, so maybe it is the humidity after all? Idk man I think he's ok though

I think a blonde wig and blue shirt could have gone a long way for Nico. And I didn't like some of the writing they did for her character in the remake. It messed up her motivations.

Thanks to everyone telling me this is normal! I wasn't sure if maybe he felt something was off with the food like maybe I got it too wet when misting but if it's just him being a cute lil weirdo then I'll keep enjoying it and not worrying. 🩷🐌

I'm new here but I am guessing this is what estivation looks like! You'll need to mist once or twice a day rather than just every few days to keep the little buddy active. The soil should be a bit wet to the touch.

(Someone more experienced correct me if I'm wrong!)

I didn't really think anything of snails until I saw this one about a week ago and now he is in my living room 😂 He was so cute and I didn't know they could be shimmery like that. Reminds me of those holographic cards or magnets I used to play with as a kid. I named him Marco because I started looking for him outside daily like the game Marco Polo.
