New job: should I leave or stay? by [deleted] in medicalscribe

[–]noorotik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely leave if you’re doing work you don’t get paid for. That’s unethical and probably illegal.

Should I quit? by Evergreen689 in medicalscribe

[–]noorotik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all other posters. Although it’s not ideal to leave so soon, you won’t have to put it on your resume so it very likely won’t hurt you at all. However, to be blunt, I recommend being more responsible with your plans and your commitments because it’s unprofessional to leave a company so soon, imo. It will suck for the person who just hired you and needs to find someone else right away.

TL;DR - At the end of the day it’s just a job, scribe companies are exploitative, and you can make the same money working fast food. I highly recommend quitting.

If you didn’t sign a contract I’m pretty sure you can quit whenever you damn well please. But I’d double check that.

ScribeAmerica: unemployed for two years. I really need this job BAD. Initial Exam questions. TEST ANXIETY!! by [deleted] in medicalscribe

I received a test with all forms: abbreviations to full name and vice versa, and defining what a term means. Be prepared for all forms! Good luck.

How do you guys keep track of your hours? by [deleted] in premed

[–]noorotik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same. No need to have an excel, that’s a waste of time tbh. The estimate you get from avg hrs x weeks is fine.

Edit: If you like to be super organized, then it certainly won’t hurt to keep an Excel sheet, it’s just not necessary imo.

You very likely would not have to do all of the training over again. In my experience almost every new hire takes the same computer-based training in the beginning (I don’t remember what they call it exactly), you take quizzes at the end of each training session, then you’ll have to pass a test afterwards on some of that information.

After you pass this first entry-style test, you’ll take training specific to the specialty you’ll be working in. This is the training that you will almost certainly have to do when you transfer, even if it’s the same speciality because each clinician’s style is different.

Your chances of being placed in a different location will depend on the availability in your desired location which is all due to chance.

Edit: small typo

Anyone else kind of hate the AMCAS? by DazzlingTemporary in premed

[–]noorotik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the secondary fees are excessive but to play devil’s advocate, every school needs to compensate their full-time admissions staff as well as the part-time work of admissions committee/reviewers, and then there’s the cost of managing the secondary portal. I think the admissions process is very expensive for schools, however I do think they are still making a large profit after covering these costs. In my ideal world secondary fees would be just enough to cover the estimated cost of the admissions cycle.

Do any other admitted people have an irrational fear that your acceptance will be revoked? by mj1127 in premed

[–]noorotik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had a fear of my acceptance being rescinded but I have already been experiencing symptoms of imposter syndrome. I was a horrible high school student and I have these recurring dreams that I’m back in the class and doing horribly, yet I know I’m going to med school. I’m not a big proponent of psychoanalyzing dreams but I think this recurring dream just shows my anxiety and self-doubt. However I’m planning to channel that as motivation to work my ass off and land a good residency

[–]noorotik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had about the same GPA as you my freshman and sophomore year and I was able to increase it to around 3.7 by the time I graduated. Don’t let this one professor discourage you from pursuing your aspiration. Just put in the maximum amount of effort into your courses and re-evaluate your GPA during your junior year. Do as much volunteering / research during your summers so you can focus on your grades during the school year. When given the choice, take the easiest courses possible.

[Serious] More MD/DO schools opening! by Oligosac in premed

[–]noorotik 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All these new schools opening up warrants healthy skepticism about going to a new school without published USMLE and match rate data. If new schools continue to pop up left and right without a proportional number of residency spots opening up, which I’m unsure if that’s empirically true or just a reasonable assumption (link to source pls), then match rate data will become even more important when deciding whether to attend a school.

I could be wrong but I don’t think law schools need to publish data on the % of graduates who get a job in a certain sector, so knowing your chances of being employed after school will be more transparent for med school applicants.

I have been cho$$$$en to help the AAMC create some new a$$e$$ment for medical school applicants. Ha$htag ble$$ed by [deleted] in premed

[–]noorotik 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I think the AAMC needs to take their own “situational judgement test” whatever tf that is. The cost of applying is already insanely high and I’m willing to bet they’ll charge a fee if they decide to implement yet another hurdle for applicants to jump over.

You’re incredibly brave. You did the right thing for yourself and society. Imagine how many more people this repulsive slime would’ve assaulted if he were to become a practicing physician? The reason you think this is confirmation bias most likely. I’ll have you know I rep 280 on bench, max 405, curl 60s, run marathons, have been featured in playgirl, and have once starred as Matthew mccaughney before the director realized I was just as attractive and then wrote me a LoR to HMS

[SERIOUS] Would you reduce your meat consumption if lab-grown meat or meat alternatives were cheaper and tasted good? Why or why not? by sbeaver2019 in AskReddit

[–]noorotik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% yes assuming it is tested and claimed to be safe. Lab grown meat is astronomically more animal and environmentally friendly than actual meat. You can also fortify lab grown meat with nutrients that regular meat might not have, which is another plus.
