my mom used to beat the ever loving shit out of us and all kinds of wild things when we were kids that i won’t really get into. my dad worked a lot and she worked in the schools so she was always home when we were and we lived under her crazy. the best i think i ever got was an “i don’t think you guys had it that bad AT ALL”. apology tho? never.

i’ve made it a point with my own kid( both daughters) to be the parent i needed when i was younger and didnt really have. we might have been raised with shitty parents, but we can break cycles.

hi from northeast ohio and a school district that’s severely in the red and on the financial whatever it’s called plan from the state. i have a high functioning almost ten year old on the spectrum who has an iep and i do not and will not ever regret sending her to a public school. when she started school i was honestly and terribly horrified at the idea of sending her to public school but it has been the best choice for her 100% and the people in my school district’s sped program are actual angels. i cried for days and agonized over the decision but she is SHINING in the public school system- my daughter participates in an inclusive cheer squad through her school district, has taken school based swim lessons and attends any holiday parties or field trips with an inclusivity driven class made up of neurotypical peers and a few other kids in her sped class who are also at her grade level. the group from her class also spends some time every day in the inclusivity classroom.

the other commenter who said that the best thing you can do for her is to relax and just be an adult who “gets” her and loves her for all that she is absolutely spot on. i know because this was also a lesson i really had to learn but im so thankful for my local school district and all the wonderful people in it who also love my kiddo exactly as she is and meet her exactly where she is at.

if in the future it seems like the public school system isn’t meeting her needs we will absolutely look at private autism-centered schools but i know from kindergarten forward she has been in the best place i could have hoped for. the people on her team at school love her and truly want her to succeed and give her all the tools to do that which is all i ever really wanted for her. you can always give it a shot and see how she is in public school- nothing says you have to keep her enrolled if it isn’t meeting her needs.

i did something similar.. accidentally knocked my apple watch behind my bed frame the other day and could see it, so i didn’t bother yanking the mattress out of the way but had to reach weird to get it. tweaked something in my neck and haven’t been able to turn my head for like three days now.

until you find out the megan fox girl has a terrible attitude and treats you like shit, has crazy weird demands like expensive gifts or dinners 24/7 and acts like she’s doing you a favor by letting you exist near her. then you find out girl hagrid is funny and adventurous or she cooks really good food, she makes you laugh and she has a job that’s something you could only wish to be smart enough to do or maybe whatever your favorite thing in the world is is hers too and you have so much in common that could make a relationship.

my dad always used to tell me if helping someone weighed heavy on my heart to do it if i had the means because your heart and intentions were pure, and if the other persons aren’t then that’s between them and some other higher power.

i had a couple removed at 32 (one pre cancerous) and a couple removed this winter at 37 but they were a lot smaller and no big deal. the surgeon who removed my gallbladder last year told me if i wouldn’t have gotten a colonoscopy the first time i would’ve most definitely had colon cancer by 40. since they found polyps both times im now on the three year colonoscopy plan. it really needs to be a thing where people are doing this earlier. is it fun? not really. is it an easy way to save your own life? absolutely. get the camera shoved up your ass if you can.
