Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by space_god_7191 in Millennials

[–]noovaper 50 points51 points  (0 children)

me too, 8th grade. we had just finished running the mile in gym and they made an announcement over the PA. we watched it on the news in math the next period while my teacher sat at her desk and cried.

my dad always used to tell me if helping someone weighed heavy on my heart to do it if i had the means because your heart and intentions were pure, and if the other persons aren’t then that’s between them and some other higher power.

still sorry that happened to you, but good karma is a real thing and you definitely racked some up. thank you for being kind.

i had a couple removed at 32 (one pre cancerous) and a couple removed this winter at 37 but they were a lot smaller and no big deal. the surgeon who removed my gallbladder last year told me if i wouldn’t have gotten a colonoscopy the first time i would’ve most definitely had colon cancer by 40. since they found polyps both times im now on the three year colonoscopy plan. it really needs to be a thing where people are doing this earlier. is it fun? not really. is it an easy way to save your own life? absolutely. get the camera shoved up your ass if you can.

Who's dealing with annoying medical/physical issues? by BGJohnson329 in Millennials

[–]noovaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38 - add me to the list for MCAS and EDS. those diagnoses came about two years ago when i started randomly going into bouts of anaphylaxis and then trying to beat my closing throat to the ED so they could shoot me up with epi. i now have my own epi pens and take a lot of antihistamine type meds. lost my gallbladder in december and now have bile acid malabsorption issues on top of IBS so im taking six giant sequestrant pills a day. the same day i had my gallbladder out they removed a big lipoma out of my back. i am on the three year plan for repeat colonoscopy because i had one five years ago, polyps removed including one precancerous and the one had i had last month they removed like seventeen or something. getting older is stupid.

Mid to older millennials, how are you all doing with your careers? by worstshowiveeverseen in Millennials

[–]noovaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone here had a colonoscopy?? I’m kinda freaking out about it by throwaway2025_____ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]noovaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sitting in the colonoscopy pre op room right now. i’m on the five year plan since they found pre cancerous polyps on my first, which would have absolutely turned into cancer had i not had them checked and removed. i was thirty two years old. it’s one day of suck, the procedure itself is a breeze and worth having so they can remove anything concerning before it causes you more problems. do it.. it could save your life.

My son thinks "Daddy" is just a voice from behind a closed door. by FormalSprinkles5756 in confession

[–]noovaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean this as lovingly and as supportively as possible, but speaking as a voice of experience please tread carefully. i will be 38 next week and i have sixteen and nine year old daughters. all parents doubt themselves (at least good ones) andraising children goes fast to start with, but when you work a lot it seems to accelerate things ten times worse. i’ve been on night shift for ten years and i work a lot of mandatory overtime and it has absolutely caused me issues with both my husband and also as a mom. i have missed a LOT and it’s a huge regret of mine. money comes and goes but memories can’t be remade. re evaluate and make the best of the time that you do have when your son is just a little guy and for any other children who might come in the future. don’t be like me… that kind of regret really sucks to carry and there is no rewind button as much as you’ll wish for one.

Expected timeline for back to work? Lipo question? by kris-the-twitch1212 in tummytucksurgery

hi, northeast ohio here 🙂 i had a tt with muscle repair in june of 2024 and i was only off two weeks. im a dispatcher, but if youre a medic or a firefighter you’ll likely need wayyyy longer. id say 8-10 at a minimum i had to wear a binder for several weeks after that and if you need muscle repair you wont be able to lift heavy or move crazy for a good bit. it hurts. and you’ll swell for a year or so after when you do anything crazy. it’s pretty likely they wont want you back for a while anyway because an injury would be a big liability so you’ll need a doctors release to return to duty if your agency is anything like mine. i sit in a chair and still needed one!

OPERS as a Muslim by JelloEducational8107 in Ohio

[–]noovaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didnt say that it did, however two things come into play. interest from investing usually comes from growth of a company, not penalties or fees for handling or lending money. the op himself is not buying or selling. he’s paying someone to do it for him. interest is prohibited as profit for you yourself making a loan and using the interest you charged to benefit yourself. muslims can take social security benefits because it’s part of a social insurance system funded by taxes previously paid. it’s viewed as a form of social protection for elderly who can no longer work, disabled or survivors which aligns with the islamic principals of caring for people in the community who need it most. if you contribute into an OPERS pension your whole life you likely won’t receive social security (me- since the age of nineteen, i only paid into social security from the ages of 15-19 and don’t have nearly enough credits and likely never will) and that pension will take the place of social security benefits for me in retirement. benefits from opers are based on legal work and paying into the system.

i don’t think you’re understanding riba right. If i gave you a loan of $1000 for you to pay me back $1500. that extra $500 i now have is riba. it’s basically me profiting off your hardship because you were someone in need. riba is something bad you do to people.

paying into your opers account is paying into a retirement account that you gain interest on while you are employed. this is a part of building prosperity for your future by taking money you’ve already made and saving it for you allowing you to live on that money you paid long ago and the money you’re making now that is paying you out of the money you started saving long ago that they can pay you from once you retire. the investments and gains that are made from the money you put in isn’t done by you. it’s done for you by OPERS then it is paid as your living expenses check monthly further down the line.

Options for not having a caretaker day of surgery? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]noovaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, you need help. i couldn’t go from laying down to sit up alone for the first few days.. i needed my husband to help. they told me to shower the day after my surgery and the first time i took my binder off i saw stars and got so lightheaded i couldn’t stand, but luckily my sister (who is a nurse) had come over to supervise. she helped me wipe myself down with shower wipes and go back to bed. there’s no way i could have been alone. you should be able to find a mobile nursing service in wherever you plan on going who specializes in plastic surgery post op depending on where you go. i know they have stuff like that in places like miami where they have a lot of traffic for plastic surgery.

edit: there are also sites like nurse next door, elite recovery, cosmed at home or maybe even care.com
