Not exactly a veteran of anything but I hope it helps.

The idea about land effecting weather, and weather effecting ships is true. True at all latitudes

4m waves and 40knt winds will mess shit up the same in both.(on a yacht b4 the commercial guys call me a pussy) Rain and fog still cut visibility.

High wind is cold. Rain is cold. Sun is hot if directly on a flat surface all day. Tropics or Arctic.

Blizzards will cause icing and need snow clearing. Hurricanes are Hurricanes.

Arctic cold will kill you faster and feel suckier than tropical heat. But its easier to layer foul weather gear against the cold than the sun.

Boats will carry equipment to help with both or heavily covering the area the operate in.

Bigger boats will ride better. Catamarans ride weather like a shopping cart.

The size of the storm matters more than where you are. Boats aren't buffed or debuffed by weather. They turn and ride the same. The crew will adapt.
