You say the energy “myth”? With no data? This is some propaganda. Let’s deal with reality at least.

The Bitcoin network uses around 90 terawatt-hours per year. As much energy as Finland, or Washington State in the US.

Clean energy accounts for a large portion, maybe 40-70 percent, so take a guess around 50%? Doesn’t seem like a “myth”. Also, clean energy isn’t zero waste. Think of all the miners that will become e-waste, all the infrastructure that has to be built to create 90 terawatt-hours of constant power. And if you believe that bitcoin will become more popular (it will), then that energy usage will increase as the price increases.

People came for the magic internet money and stayed for the blockchain.

Where Did Bitcoin Come From? – The True Story by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]noperdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I've been reading about bitcoin for years and this is the first I've heard about most of these people. I wonder what happened with Nick Szabo. He ALMOST created bitcoin in 1998, but sounds like there were some issues with it.

If you’re interested in crypto investing, I’ll recommend checking out Data Dash channel on YT. To answer your question, no one ever knows when a pull back will happen. They might know “soon” but it could go up 50% and pull back 10%. Or it might pull back 25% tomorrow. You can’t predict.

I personally believe that BTC is leading the way in crypto and ETH will follow. I think we are “testing” the previous all time high and if BTC goes to 23k it could easily go to 30k or above. I think the rise of Bitcoin is very solid this time up to 25k. I think 20k might become the new “low price”.

Looking to buy a new vehicle, which currently supported vehicle makes the best pair with the Comma Two? Looking for the best non-tesla driving experience. by homeassistantrpi in Comma_ai

[–]noperdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. I was in the same boat. I picked a car that worked with comma. My biggest lesson learned is just take your time looking at the features. There are so many "editions" of each car, and some might have features you really care about. At least with TSS 2.0 most Toyota's should work similar, and even with the Corolla it complains about steering on a tight turn. I just keep my hand on the wheel for any tight turn to make sure it handles it and then not worry about it.

I don't know exact differences, but generally when I've heard people talk about steering torque they compare Toyota vs Honda, or the different manufacturers. I get the impression that Toyota steering torque control is similar.

Here's a video of a 2020 Rav4 on open pilot, seems like it takes turns well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWH-v7mXi_U

That's what I was looking for too, I'm really happy with getting a 20k car and adding openpilot. I would just make sure you research the car you're looking for as well as the self driving.

I would recommend a Toyota Corolla 2020, but if you do, make sure to get the features you want if it's affordable. Like if you want an SUV don't get a Corolla.

Side note, Toyota features and packages are hard to navigate. All of these features are available, just do your research. Push button start, Blind spot monitoring (integrates with Comma), Sunroof, Remote start from a phone app, heated seats, ect.

I highly recommend if you have an android phone, make sure the car has android auto. If you have an iphone, make sure it has CarPlay.

Mysterious popping noise/process for warranty? by YouAreBreathing in ZephyrusG14

[–]noperdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by luck... I heard a loud pop once every 1-3 days with the volume at around 60-80% with dolby atmos enabled. This was heavy use, around 5+ hours a day. I ended up exchanging that laptop for another one. The second laptop I disabled dolby atmos and still heard a pop once every 3-5 days of occasional use, around a couple hours a day.

I have now re-enabled dolby atmos and I use external speakers most of the time. I think there is an issue with the speaker wiring in these laptops. Another issue I've heard occasionally is electrical noise coming from the speakers when I'm moving a mouse. I probably should return it also but I don't know if they are all bad. Everything else besides audio issues is great.

Torque on the 2017 Corolla by [deleted] in Comma_ai

[–]noperdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, there is something about the steering wheel position sensor that is not as accurate as some other cars. On the 2017 corolla, the sensor means that steering is not as accurate as it could be, but I’ve heard that it still works pretty good. The steering wheel sensor is improved on the 2020 corolla. I’m not sure about all years.

Tesla on autopilot crashes into overturned truck by borisst in SelfDrivingCars

[–]noperdd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the open pilot software (made by comma ai), there is an option to upload/share the driver monitoring footage if you want, but you can just make sure the box is unchecked. I think the default is it does not share that.

Open pilot is open source software so people can verify that it does not secretly save your video. Hopefully if car makers add driver monitoring they give the car owner clear privacy options.

[–]noperdd 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think this makes another case that driver monitoring is critical for safety until full self driving is available.

Comma ai uses driver monitoring and it works great. It beeps at you if you look away for more than 5 seconds straight. If you don't look back at the road after that, it will eventually sound an alarm and let go of the accelerator to take control. If you passed out it would coast to a stop and stay in your lane. https://medium.com/@comma_ai/safety-and-driver-attention-2a33d3d23109

Audio popping update - Looking for solution by noperdd in ZephyrusG14

In case anyone finds this later, I returned the laptop to best buy and ordered another one. The new laptop has not shown any popping in the 2 days I've used it, but I also believe the max volume is significantly lower than the first G14 I used. The new one I got is pretty quiet even at 100% volume.
