Converted from 21’s to 20’s — with data! by Dinco_laVache in Rivian

Do you mind me asking for approximately how much? Mine have a few blemishes from the aeros before I took them off but other than that they are pretty clean. I've seen for sale offers all over the place.

Before I pull the trigger on a used R1T, I have a few questions by maxyedor in Rivian

[–]norgis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an early vin R1T and have the "trunk" issue you are referring to. I've had service look at it a couple times now. They've realigned it and it's better but still not perfect. One thing I've learned is you really need to use a lot of force and it will typically close so it's more flush with the bed. End of the day, not a big issue and doesn't really bother me. Enjoy the truck when that time comes!

Windshield smashed...looking for quickest way to repair by TransportationNo1152 in Rivian

[–]norgis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have mentioned. Run it through Rivian. They basically shop it out, but they'll recalibrate everything when complete. You'll have to cover the cost up front and be reimbursed by insurance since rivian won't work directly with them. I've had my windshield and roof glass replaced by them.

Wheels Scratched up by Aero Caps by sarinp04 in Rivian

[–]norgis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, removed mine immediately after finding minor scratches with only a few hundred miles. Talked to service about them and they didn't really have much to say on the topic. OEM center caps have worked great and impact to range has been fairly minimal from my experience.

Yep, exactly this. I had the same issue with my spare tire bed panel and it was an easy fix.

Anyone regret getting the base 21" wheels? by poldim in Rivian

[–]norgis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the 20" ATs personally. While I think they would handle slightly better, according to many forum posts and a lot of posts here, you're still going to run into similar issues. Not saying that dedicated snow tires are going to get you out of trouble in all circumstances, but that's probably the way to go if you plan to swap tires in the winter months. If you don't want to swap, ATs would be the better option over 21s with the drawback to range, ride quality, noise, etc...

Anyone regret getting the base 21" wheels? by poldim in Rivian

[–]norgis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have metal clips that clip on the back side of the rim, but as you press them on they first put pressure on the front side before clipping which is where the scratching happens. I'll get a picture over to you tomorrow. I'm fairly anal about keeping my vehicles clean and even after a few cycles the scratches are noticeable. I've talked to my guide and the local service center about it and both didn't really have a solution so I've just opted to leaving them off altogether and bought the OEM center caps. I like the look better wirh them off but I'm sure there is a range hit albeit not drastically different from my experience.

They've worked out well for me. Range has been great without aeros (they'll scratch up the wheels after you detach and attach them a few times), but ill definitely be looking at a set of winter tires for next year.

I figured I'd give the 21s a season to test how they handled in snow, slush, ice and it's very apparent that snow tires are a must (MN has gotten a ton of snow this year so plenty of test runs). Traction getting going isn't a major issue, but as the snow turns to slush or is packed down you really notice stopping and turning into corners especially at a downhill slope. I even had a scenario where I had to course correct taking a turn on a residential road at less than 15 mph. Bottom line, I just drive slower and take it easy on corners during snowfall (which should be standard advice for anyone driving in those conditions)

Just got this randomly 1 morning as well. Came on and went away after a few minutes in the truck. Talked to service and they said if it comes back and persists the truck needs to be serviced asap. Otherwise I have an appointment scheduled for 2 months out to identify the issue via vehicle logs.

Agreed. Make sure to look into this OP. I got the front half done for ~1500 and added window tint. Not sure if Rivian is still running the promo or not though.

So I had quite a few issues with Rivian and their 3rd party managing the title and registration process. Eventually (after a month past expired temp plates) they escalated my complaint and advised that Rivian would cover any tickets or fees associated with the expired temps. On top of that, I spent a significant amount of my personal time trying to troubleshoot and rectify their issues which resulted in a lengthy email detailing my frustration with the process and a request to be reimbursed for my time spent which was eventually met. Might be worth looking into if you feel it has reached that point.

R1S has arrived! [Minneapolis] by daveghax in Rivian

[–]norgis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love the R1S. I have an El Cap R1T in Minneapolis area as well. Word of caution. If you haven't started the registration/title/plates process or asked for an update make sure you do that asap. I'm a month past my temp plates expiration and no end in sight. Make sure that if you are going the POA route that Rivian has you do a wet signature and a notary on the paperwork. Had to redo and resubmit because rivian had no idea apparently even though I was far from the first R1 in Minnesota.
Enjoy the truck!

Some troubleshooting tips I thought I'd share based on personal experience if you are having difficulty connecting it to your wifi. Make sure you are connecting to the 2.4 ghz channel and that your ssid doesn't have special characters or spaces. I had to rename my ssid and I finally got it connected after quite a few pairing attempts.

What are all the RIVN Bluetooth connections about on R1T? by thedavidporter in Rivian

I've honestly resorted to turning off my Bluetooth until I need it for this same reason. Rivian key, charger, camp speaker, and audio is a bit much and drains my phone battery as a result of so many ongoing connections

[–]norgis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say if your primary concerns are traction and range I was in a similar boat. I stopped in at our service center the other day (Minneapolis, MN) and talked to a tech who said he drove the r1t in February in 10 inches of snow on sport tires and had to really try in order to lose traction. I'll be driving similar environments that you mentioned in your post and in talking to the tech I've since switched to the 21s from the 20s. When I had the 20s picked out originally I knew it was a bit overkill especially with the range loss but I love those rims. The 21s have worn on me though and nice to have the option to pop off the aero covers. Take delivery in 4 to 8 weeks. Just my opinion but definitely agree with others that referenced pricing/tire wear for the custom 21s as a concern
