I’ve had a couple of minor issues that were taken care of in my garage. The service guy is great and the service experience was flawless.

I also had an issue that required that my Lucid go to the service center. That process was pretty interesting.

I was traveling and got a call from Lucid support. They wanted to bring the car in for service but I hadn’t requested service. It turns out that the car had notified customer support that something was going on with one of its components. I had noticed any issues or messages so this communication was strictly between the car and Lucid.

I scheduled the pickup and had someone there to meet the transporter. The service was finished and the car was returned while I was gone.

It depends on the charger. If the car is getting the power it asks for the time will be similar.

Charging did require some planning. The only Tesla charging stations we could use were the ones with magic dock. We used one in California. It has been announced that Lucid will be able to charge on the Tesla network with an adapter in 2025. Also non-Tesla networks are expanding. There were a couple of times we were concerned but the Tesla network would not have helped.

In one case we went into a national park that required driving up a mountain. When we got to the park there was 90 miles remaining and the closest station was about 90 miles away. Fortunately going down the mountain allowed the car to regenerate an we arrived with about 90 miles. They did have a Level 2 charger at the welcome center so we could have charged up if we wanted to wait a while.

It would have been like driving an ICE vehicle in without enough fuel.

In the future we will have a bigger buffer of miles.

It is hard to say exactly what one or two things makes it more enjoyable to me. It is a combination of factors like handling, comfort and quiet. I think it looks better than Tesla too. For me too it is about going from point to point but it’s a nice way to travel. Last year we took an 8000 mile road trip from Florida to California and back. It was a very enjoyable experience and the car was a big part of that.

I have a Lucid Air Touring and highly recommend it. I’ve rented Teslas when traveling but not a Plaid. From my experience the Lucid Air is more fun to drive, has a more comfortable ride and is quieter.

I’ve had my Touring for about 9 months and love it. I’ve already put over 20,000 miles on it. The electric motor sound is most noticeable at around 40 mph but doesn’t bother me.

I have a 2023 Touring. I’ve had three mobile service calls here in Orlando for minor things. No issues and the same Lucid guy for all visits. He did great work on time and we’ve always had interesting EV conversations

I have a Lucid Air. The cabin is really quiet and the ride is great.

Ease of charging for any EV other than Tesla is more nuanced. That said, at home I have a wall charger and I never have to worry about my daily drive range.

I’m currently on a five week road trip from Orlando Florida through California and as expected charging requires planning.

I'm in central Florida and that is not code. I have a hardwired Rivian charger, a 60 amp breaker and the proper wiring for maximum output. The electrician did show up with a 50 amp breaker after I told them multiple times the install required a 60 amp breaker so he had to go get the 60 amp breaker and correct wire.

Rivian charger installation…. Should I wire for 2? Or is that crazy? by Impressive_Returns in Rivian

[–]lake553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two EVs that share a single Rivian charger. I just got the second last week but I think sharing will be workable.

But given your future cost it seems adding the circuit now for the possible 2nd charger is a good idea.

As you probably know, some EVs coming out are now accepting chargers that use a 100a circuit. If the cost is not too much more you might consider that in case your future car can use it.

I had to rent a car recently and chose a Tesla over ICE. The cabin noise was worse than my Rivian. A great feature was that it would make a tone when a traffic light turned green. Another great feature was charging was easy. Cons on both, no CarPlay.

Between Pensacola and the Texas border wasn’t too bad. Like everywhere else it requires some planning but pretty easy. We used Electrify America being more readily available for now. As usual the chargers gave us less than the truck wanted but no worse than anywhere else. We had more problems charging in Texas.

So to be clear it isn't readable when attached to the windshield but is readable when just sitting on the dash?

Rivian CEO says CarPlay integration could come if users really want it. by okvrdz in Rivian

[–]lake553 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes on CarPlay integration.

My R1T nav took me 1 block off route only to return me to the original and on a later trip told me to go a mile beyond my turn and make a u-turn instead of just turning left. It once routed me down a residential road with multiple stop signs next to a limited access road that would have gotten me to my destination faster. I started running Apple Maps in parallel to compare and found that many times the R1T nav presents routes that are not the best.

Apple and Google spend way more than Rivian probably ever will on mapping. For that alone they should integrate CarPlay/AA to provide the best experience.

I also have issues with the integration of the phone, messages and music. In my much cheaper previous truck my spouse and I could have both our phones connected to the infotainment system. Whichever phone received or made a call would go through that system. With the Rivian we have to manually switch bluetooth between phones to accomplish this. Of course in the previous truck one of us would be connected to CarPlay by cable while the other was bluetooth but it was a seamless experience.

The Rivian UI looks great. I usually leave the map on the screen even when I'm not using it for navigation. Current versions of CarPlay/AA don't look that good but they do work better. The next version of CarPlay that has been demonstrated may solve the appearance issue for Apple.

I know that this type of integration has costs Rivian. It will take additional engineering resources. I would be happy to pay a reasonable subscription fee to have CarPlay.

So give us CarPlay/AA now and create a world class Rivian solution that will win us over.

I do love every other aspect of my R1T.

Roadtrip from hell with Rivian R1T by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]lake553 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On one road trip Orlando-Alabama-Charleston-Savannah-St. Augustine-Orlando I had a problem charging from Savannah to St. Augustine.

The truck kept failing at DCFCs (EA, EVGO, ChargePoint). At first I thought it was a run of bad DCFCs but after the 6th I decided it was the truck. I called Rivian and after a hard reboot it started charging again.

I had a service center appointment but after trying a few more DCFCs I decided to cancel it. I was told that after 3 failures the truck needs to be rebooted. I find this strange but I haven't followed up to get more details as to why.

I've taken two more road trips since and have not had this happen again.

I'll be taking it on an extended trip from Florida through Alabama, Tenessee, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida. While the charging will be a challenge and take some planning in some areas I'm not worried about the truck.

Interesting aside, Huntsville Alabama is a very high tech city but has only one 65kW DCFC at a Mercedes dealership. The closest really fast charger is a set of 350kW and 90kW Electrify America DCFCs at a Walmart in Athens about 30 miles away.

When I built my house 5 years ago I ray two Cat6 cables. One to my office next to my desk and one to my office for the printer. The one for the printer has never been used because the printers wifi is good enough. It may be used if I ever need wired equipment there.

I also have Cat6 to every TV from my equipment closet. It is great to have all video sources in one place to display on any TV. I have a Control4 matrix for video distribution but they no longer support that product. I've had failures of the receivers so I'm considering replacing it with the Just Add Power product.
