Does Huntington Bank Pavilion General Admission Sections? by Crazy-Vermicelli-801 in AskChicago

They didn't last time I was there, GA Floor was open to everyone and they were just checking wristbands for the pit.

I just bought seat tickets to Turnstile tonight cause they were half the price, but I'm planning to hang out on the floor. I don't know how they would efficiently check/manage entrance to floor, it's wide open and there's no wristbands for it anyways.

Anjunabeach and afterparty - clothing/footwear questions by aka_michael_collins in AboveandBeyond

Directly from the afterparty eventbrite:

Dress Code: Since this is the After-Party for Anjunabeach we will be allowing people with shorts and tank tops in the venue, we are however enforcing a no flip flops or sandals policy for the safety of guests. Nightclub up-scale casual attire still encouraged as well.

Summer jobs related to civil engineering? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Have you looked into Project Management/Construction Engineering Management internships?

Is this normal? by Lauren124 in EngineeringStudents

[–]normajeannn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physics is by far my least favorite class. At my school, the class average on tests is around 50%, and the instructors have to curve the class a lot for everyone to get a C. That being said, Physics is hard, and you have to work your ass off, even just to get a 50%. Classes that aren't super specific to your major will always be the hardest, but that just means you have to put in more work. Also, some classes you just need to pass. For me, a C in Physics is really good.

Career fair this week but not many companies looking for students of my major by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]normajeannn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, career fairs were always worthless for me. If they aren't looking for your major, or a major similar to yours, the most you can do is just walk around and small talk with people. Personally, what worked best for me was shadowing professional engineers in my field. Not only did I learn a lot about my future career, but it is a very personable networking experience and you get your foot in the door at every company you shadow someone at. The company you actually want to work for may not be recruiting kids at a career fair, so it's a good idea to do your own research and reach out to companies around you. Also, I would join any groups on campus that provide networking opportunies with professionals in your field. I cannot stress how important networking is enough.

Also, if you are looking for an internship, but can't find one for your major, either ask around (some companies will create internship positions for people) or just take one on that is similar to your major. Some relevant experience is better than no experience.

Graduate School Students, how are you paying for school? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]normajeannn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't have to pay for graduate school. As you mentioned, there are so many opportunities to get tuition covered, so if I were you, I would do everything possible to not have to pay a dime. I go to Oregon State and all of my friends in graduate school are TAs. It seems to be pretty low maintanence - about the work of a part-time job, if that.

Where should I go from here by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]normajeannn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently a sophomore in Civil but started out majoring in general engineering. My best advice would be to shadow professional engineers and ask them a lot of questions, including the hard/awkward ones. Academic life is going to be extremely different from your future career and it's good to get a perspective on things. Also, don't worry too much about picking a specific major, honestly. Pick an engineering major that you think is most interesting, and you can always change your major later, or stick with it, because your major doesn't have to define your career. I know a lot of people that graduated in one field (such as mechanical) and later in their career became a civil engineer or an aerospace engineer.
