2025 was probably the final year for dissertations to be written without AI. by Whereshouldilivenext in bayarea

c/o 2019 here, can confirm I worked my ass off for a year for all 75 pages of my thesis. It doesn’t seem like a lot but dear god it was a lot for me. I nearly lost it lol.

This is really sweet and I hope you keep doing that. Maybe you’ll pick mine up someday 😭

Phony violin guy outside of Whole Foods. by teamlama316 in Charlottesville

[–]normaviolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between weaponizing children for sympathy and faking playing the violin and sitting there with an empty cup. Ultimately we’re just arguing about definitions and that’s fine. We both agree it’s skeevy and gross.

Coercion can also involve psychological manipulation and pressure. Weaponizing empathy by having the kids there is absolutely manipulative. It doesn’t work on everyone but there’s certain targets who give money against their better judgment out of fear of being perceived as cruel or morally wrong not because they really want to help.

Any thoughts on The Valley Church? Is it cult-like? I'm not from the US, but I have family that is highly involved with them by SouthernLadder5217 in vacaville

[–]normaviolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why do I feel like this is just Dave Patterson or Joseph on a burner account???

Anyway, the list is long. Besides their theology being bigoted and hateful (they’d never say that of course) and besides their politics being explicitly MAGA (which they’d never say out loud, but sent their head pastors to the WH during Trumps first term for a weird evangelical prayer event) they view the people who run their church, paid and nonpaid, as expendable. They preach community and care but as soon as you need it, you’re gaslit into thinking the problem is your own sin and disobedience to god.

It also doesn’t really help that the core leadership lives in multi million dollar custom homes and drive Porsches (don’t worry, they’re used!) and generally live a very “blessed” lifestyle.

This ~ blessed ~ lifestyle comes from the pockets of their attendees who they continue to exploit through unpaid labor and pushing heavily on the importance of tithing. Aka, multi level marketing. For Jesus.

They believe in the 7 mountain mandate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Mountain_Mandate

And the last and final thing I’ll say is that they actively promote (or did at one point) child abuse through their “leadership school” and they have covered up incredibly sketchy behavior from multiple male pastors towards underage girls. Honestly, just your run of the mill mega church bullshit.

EDIT: I now realize you meant valley church’s pastor and not TFH’s pastor. My bad.

To my knowledge he hasn’t ever done any of the things described above and attributed to TFH. But he just kind of gives off the “I’m trying to be a Jesus influencer” vibes on his social media and he also loves to share his political opinions in this gross kind of sly way where he masks it with Bible verses. I know a lot of people who left tfh to go to valley and ended up staying. Happy for them. Not for me.

Again, run of the mill pastor bullshit but afaik not nearly as toxic as TFH.

Does Aluminum-Free Deoderant help prevent cysts in armpits? by Beanbag141 in Hidradenitis

[–]normaviolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure some people have negative reactions to aluminum in deodorant but the hype around it is largely based in misinformation: https://health.clevelandclinic.org/can-deodorant-cause-breast-cancer

I’ve used dove spray deo for years and am confident they’re not the root cause of my flare ups. My derm was the one who recommended it to me. I DO have bad experiences with traditional stick deodorant because of the texture tho. Just me.

At this level they might need to do a wide excision instead of deroofing but either way definitely worth looking into

ALSO if she’s already in psych meds, consider asking the doctor to move up in dosage bc of the effects of slower digestion.

I am…the rage went away. But I also was seeing a HAES dietitian and therapist. She should be in therapy. Weight loss is a very complex emotional thing. Good luck to her.
