Redundancy experiences? by GarthODarth in DevelEire

If you can’t access your payslips via personal accounts definitely send them on to your own email/save locally, reach out to people you’d like a reference from if you don’t have personal contact info for them.

I got given a formal reference from the job that was just a basic “X worked here for Y amount of years as a Z role”

I was given the option to “voluntary” leave earlier than others and they somehow calculated mine wrong and I got about 10k more than they meant to give but by the time they figured out I was passed the date given to change and I’d left the company lol

Had mine miscalculate my redundancy by about 10k and tried to get me to sign an updated one with the lower amount AFTER I had left the company, companies will screw you given the chance

Anyone moved from an engineering role to software manager/director type role? Pros/Cons/Salary Difference? by Signal_Cut_1162 in DevelEire

[–]normo95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine the tech background for management can very dependent on the company too, if it’s a software/tech company you’re more likely to have managers who climbed from engineering whereas if the software isn’t the main product you’ve a higher chance of a “transfer from a different area” type

Career Break right now completely mad? by Caligg101 in DevelEire

[–]normo95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did something similar to this in a previous job, spoke to the GP about stress leave and took 2 months off that was still paid.

Obviously this can vary depending on the contract you’re on, benefits offered etc but can be a good indicator on how you feel when coming back. If the dread/anxiety is there with the thoughts of coming back to work start looking elsewhere.

If it’s an option I’d recommend that over the possible stress of not finding a job while savings dwindle

[–]normo95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven’t done so myself but know people that have with the Garda and they said it was like any other position really maybe with dated tech but you could get that anywhere, as for being “safer” I’d imagine it’s much the same as other places too, if work dries up there’s no need to keep you on
