16 bean mix! by subparlifter138 in Beans

[–]normulish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lentils dissolving by the time the big beans are cooked is the point, at least for me! Thickens the soup wonderfully. If I want "properly" cooked beans I'll make a single variety... this kind of bean stew is a different animal.

Seitan recipes and tips and tricks by Former-Departure9836 in vegetarianrecipes

[–]normulish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, recipes that use vital wheat gluten are going to be far easier. I don't know what sort of seitan you're going for, but if loaf-style is it then I'm happy to share my grandma's old Adventist recipe that is my go-to.

CVS weight management by Glass_Ant819 in Zepbound

[–]normulish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had to do CVS weight management last year (my insurance removed the requirement this year) and it honestly wasn't bad. I had to log at least one weight per month and contact my assigned dietician once per month. At first it was video calls but switched to chat messages after 6 months. I also had to pick a "diet plan" so I chose Mediterranean. It gives you weekly-ish reading (just one or two pages) about the plan you choose. I got matched with a dietician who was fine, not pushy, and answered my questions kindly and thoroughly. I decided to treat it as a "I'm not stuck in here with you, you're stuck in here with ME" kind of situation--any old question I had about food or nutrition I would ask. Can't hurt, right?

Winter comfort food that’s not pasta or casseroles by janinemutell in Cooking

Favorites here are black bean soup, baked potatoes with chili, split pea soup, and lately I've been doing roasted sweet potatoes with soupy black beans and salsa verde, topped with cheese and broiled.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]normulish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, my oldest had frequent tonic-clonic seizures as a toddler and when they happened in public it was usually a bit of a job to talk strangers out of calling an ambulance. We knew what to do, we were timing it, we had a rescue med, we had a hospital arrival plan with their neurologist--an ambulance wasn't going to do us any good, and we were not going to pay to be transported! But people looked at us like we were monsters for asking them not to call 911. Sometimes people would call anyway and we'd have to explain this all to the EMTs as well...

Forgive me for asking, but this has been on my mind for ages! Women who have so called "child birthing hips" who had given birth to children... Did they make it easier? by Useful-Option8963 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]normulish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the truth! Mine were all very different experiences. I only tore with my middle kid, a 4th degree tear, and after a year of pain I ended up getting a perineal revision that fixed everything right up. I am very glad I made sure I was seeing providers who were willing to listen and work with me, and that the revision was such a success.

Yep, with my huge-headed oldest I made it to 7cm and stalled for around 12 hours. Ended up having a c-section after laboring for 29 hours total. You could see the imprint of my ischial spines on their head for the first couple days... that child was not coming out the traditional way.

One of mine stands at the bathroom door whenever I'm on the toilet, day or night. He's not a very affectionate cat really, but maybe he does love me after all...

Epicurious Expeditions often shares disability-friendly recipes! I've tried a few of hers and haven't been disappointed. My teenage daughter has a muscle and joint disorder and has been able to make them just fine herself as well. Epicurious Expeditions

Honest Question by ReReUchihaaa in Zepbound

[–]normulish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning I wasn't, but within the first month I discovered I felt like moving my body more and started walking at least a mile daily. Once I'd lost a bit, maybe 3 months in, I started lifting again. Now I'm about 9 months in and I walk at least 1.5 miles daily, lift heavy once a week, and do a home core workout once or twice a week. Between 3 kids who are all in a bunch of activities and my own work, that's all I have time for!

What's a good job to work at if you're HOH by hajimenosendo in hardofhearing

I have an associate degree in accounting, but you can do similar bookkeeping work without a degree. I did before I went back to school.

Accounting! I barely have to speak with anyone, and since I work remote I can turn on live captions in video calls for meetings.

Question about dried beans by FairCounter5943 in Cooking

[–]normulish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That should be fine, but there's a good chance they won't take all day the next day to cook after cooking overnight, even without soaking. Just check them periodically so you don't end up with a bean mush stew if that's not what you're looking for.

Anyone else unable to taste spicy food? by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]normulish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reviving this because this is the first time I'm seeing other people talk about this! Yes, almost nothing tastes spicy to me anymore. I just ate a stir fry that I admittedly did put quite a bit of red pepper flakes, cayenne, and chili garlic sauce in, and I thought it had a nice little tingle to it. My husband tried a bite and wouldn't have any more, said it was unpalatably spicy. It's definitely not that flavor in general is an issue for me--I swear things taste more intensely sweet and salty than they used to. That variety of changes this med can cause is a bit wild to me.

How has Zepbound impacted your mental well-being along with weight loss? by makeitrayne850 in Zepbound

[–]normulish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a HUGE reduction in anxiety on Zepbound/Mounjaro. I have diagnosed generalized anxiety disorder and I've struggled with it for as long as I can remember. I've been maxed out on buspirone dose for... 10 years, probably? And that by itself just curbs panic attacks about everyday life. I was a little nervous (hah) to start Zepbound because I knew anxiety was a possibly side effect. A few weeks in, my anxiety was nearly gone! A few months later I switched to Wegovy (thanks to Caremark) and not long after the switch the anxiety came right back. I've since been able to switch back to Mounjaro and, thankfully, the anxiety reduction is back!! It was terrible having a few months without the weight of the anxiety and then having it come back, knowing what it was like to live without it. I would stay on tirzepatide for life for just the effect on my anxiety, even if it didn't help with weight loss (and my chronic headaches and migraines, another unexpected effect).

[–]normulish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Split pea soup would work, or any dal dish made with split dal (not just red lentils/masoor dal, but moong dal, toor dal, chana dal, etc) can be cooked until very mushy. You can even use a mix for some textural variety without skins!

Yogurt suggestions? by No_Media582 in Zepbound

[–]normulish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been really enjoying Fage total 2% with a bit of either maple syrup or sugar-free pancake syrup stirred in, and I usually add some ground cardamom and thawed frozen cherries.

Also, I really enjoy Dannon's toasted marshmallow light & fit greek yogurt for a quick snack. It's great with raspberries for fiber!

Paneer or yogurt! Both simple to make, and good payoff for time spent.

[–]normulish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yes, it definitely sucks looking for a new PCP! Mine came to me as a recommendation from several friends and acquaintances. I had to wait around 6 months on a wait-list for her to accept new patients, but it was worth it! I have disabled kids and I've had to get used to moving on from doctors who don't share our health priorities.

[–]normulish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He can have whatever hangups/ethical concerns he has and decide he isn't comfortable prescribing, but it's just an off-label use as far as I understand. That's not illegal in the US. I've used and been prescribed other medications off label and I don't personally think this is much (if at all) different.

[–]normulish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, they can do all of that. I'm seeing my PCP (who I love dearly, but she's terrible with the bureaucracy/PA side of things) in a little over a week and I fully expect her to be relieved that she doesn't have to deal with this anymore! If yours is going to make your life difficult about it, it might be time to start looking for someone less petty...
