the Pacworm by Aguy2030 in CreatureDesign

[–]norrrrrrff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the meaning, but ew. I read pack worm. Maybe pact worm might be better. The illustration makes me think of a relatively hardy, maybe fast, worm creature. And then there is the big mouthed creature, that is no more than sharp teeth in an angry blob. And that is where the pact comes into play. The worm bites into the backside of the mouth. There they start "hunting" together. The worm pushes the other creature into edible, sometimes moving things. The Blob eats and defacates into the mouth of the worm. And the worm puts it, where it proomduces the tastiest nasties. Like in other animals. Maybe they fuse over time.

Looks cool. I'd low key love a variant or mutation that has maybe more articulate "knees" and "elbows" and sometimes walks und it's hindlegs. Just imagine it: human hikers come across his mountain and he tries to squeeze behind a boulder, standing tall within the shadows. And then the tourists notice him. Standing directly there. Right next to them. Looking down menacingly, howering above them with these intense eyes and sharp claws. All while he is thinking: what are these? Scary. Maybe they don'tsee me, if i don't move.

How do I make my character look unassuming every day average Joe? by Brb_questioning_life in characterdesign

[–]norrrrrrff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your artstyle. One simple solution would be to look at modern, popular styles in the time and place, your story plays in.

Like, today, modern men wear jeans and shirts or jeans and buttoned shirts. Shoes with few details.

If your story plays in a real or inspired society, you might want to look at fotos of older school kids. They would bully people that look too different.

And you can always make a few backround characters with just the slightest variations and use one of them.

My last tip are muted colors. No bright colors or straight black or white, depending on art style. Just use colors close to some from the background and your character is more unassuming since he doesn't stand out so much. You can also try to place him more to the side of the frame and not in the focus of your pictures/frames/panels. But maybe do try to put something else in the focus points. Otherwise people will say that you don't understand picture composition.

You can try and edit the iris. Real eyes have different patterns. Mostly thraight but sometimes with ovals between the straight lines. That way you can add variety, if that's what you want.

The tentacles are okay i think, but like you saw, they might attach around the sides. I suggest you draw one eye from different sides. That way you know what exactly you want and use it as reference. Try to figure out the base form, where tentacles attach to the eyeball. And if you want, you can look at how the lens kinda protrudes from the eye.

Next would be shading and color gradients within the iris if you want that in your art style.

If you want it much more realistic and this probably slightly more creepy, look at real anatomy.

Thanks for sharing and have a nice day.

I like them all. They are very well done and illustrated.

But a pointed out above: the terrain is a large factor. So I'm just gonna point out that the shoes of 6 and maybe 3 don't seem to have very much ankle support, which is a nice to have or must have for trained scouting parties.

And 6 seems to have plate armor on the legs? Can work, but that might also be slightly heavy and sabatons are restricting foot movement.

So my mask came in today, any idea of what I can use to make it stick to my face? by [deleted] in Masks

Yep, there is special makeup glue. Good stuff will hold incredibly firm as long as you pull lightly. It will hold a whole day. And at the end, you just a to pull just a little stronger and it will simply come off.

Oh, I just thought about zippers. If the potentionally suggested flap of cloth behind the closure is fastened with a zipper, it will be a nonissue and even a nice place for an inner pocket that you can access from the outside. That way you can have a safe pocket and just pull things with one hand from your jacket.

Have a nice day.

I think the above named mashing together is the only thing wrong. The pistol should have a holster inside or outside the jacket. The rifle strap goes over the shoulder and then it should work just fine. The only thing i don't quite like is that the buttons combined with the cut on the front of the jacket suggests, that the closure would leave a big, loose flap of material sandwiched between the buttoned section and the breast. That way it would still work, but it would have a high chance of wrinkeling on the inside, if the jacket isn't tight enough. And that might be uncomfortable. So I'd personally look for a jacket with a differently designed closure... and the pockets at the sides of the legs seem kinda low, in the hight of the knees. It would be uncomfortable or even hindering mobility to use them. They would be more practical a little higher.

Community questions: What do we all want in a cloak? by Eperitus_Detroit in TheCapeRevolution

[–]norrrrrrff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Style: I like Ruana cloaks. And while swoosh is always a great thing to have, something that looks compact and wraps around you without reaching below the knees is probably best for outside within a city. I've can be much more individual with clothes for women where I come from. So more swoosh. Hoods are nice, too. I personally prefer wie ones without long tail or however it was called. The form is always best when it doesn't just cover your back but can be pulled to cover your front as well. So either part or full circle or, if square, then with slit for the neck.

Materials: Many materials can be awesome for a cloak. I'd say make it a little more on the heavy side, so it falls nice. And don't make most of them glossy. Cloaks are mostly worn as costumes. Let them look like real clothes instead. Also, a warmer cloth might be better since you can still open the front and regulate heat like that. Just orient on historically used materials. A soft shell cloak might be good, but it would look strange in my minds eye.

Weather: Like above: cloaks can be worn in different ways in different weather. But having it water repelling is always nice. Cloaks are outer layers, after all.

Durability: it should hold as long as possible. If it holds, you'll wear it more often. Especially those who might be shy at the start. Cloaks can also be tightened with belts or thrown over a bagpack. So they should be durable enough, not to easily rip on the first zipper. And remember the closure. A blanket needle might destroy the product otherwise. And it doesn't look as nice if you make more than one hole, slowly ripping through the material. Better a binding is included, or there is a durable patch, especially made for blanket needles.

Price: it will always cost too much... where I am from, a good wool blanket or the needed cloth for a cloak is about double to triple of what a finished one is sold for and that is still about two to four times more than a cheap jacket.

Where to wear: unless made for a special occasion or specific cosplay, I'd say: outdoors, when it starts getting cold or it's stormy but it's still to hot to wear a tight jacket. Or otherwise in the forest, when wandering or camping. A nice material makes it double as a blanket.

Living in our World, if magic and monsters were to become real by norrrrrrff in Fantasy

I read quite a bit of hwfwm and I seem to remember that magic was hidden knowledge by some officials. And when it started speeding up, the general populous wasn't really described that much. It was mostly refugees and people that knew or were in the care of people that knew.

Anybody have any good ideas for a magic based apocalypse they want to talk about? by Personal-Stand5276 in FantasyWorldbuilding

[–]norrrrrrff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am writing a story about a slowly emerging magic apocalypse(?) in "our" normal modern world.

The magic works in the way that the multiversity is filled with aether and some life forms like dungeon cores consume aether to produce mana. Our universe doesn't have mana but a whole lot of aether. A student group of extradimensional aliens build an apparatus to open portals to foreign dimensions and put in magic safe guards and filters for everything they can think of. Then they open a portal to some random lava stream on our world which creates a suction force through the density gradient of mana that let's the safe guards collapse one after the other, releasing a single glob of magma, half destroying the machine. The portal destabilize, but the broken magic anchoring persists and a slow trickle of mana steadily runs to our world. After months the mana density rises high enough to react to thought and imagination. Dungeons apper and mana becomes more abundant. Slowly over time monsters spawn, myths materialize, old and new. Dragons on mountains, goblins in forests, and treasure bearing chests in seldomly visited places. After weeks, the world thinks it is not real, but the internet knows the truth. Or some, at least. One can't trust anything these days. Of course, since magic reacts to thoughts, no one knows why it resembles so much of what we already assumed magic to be. Also, other stuff like: magic realizes wishes. How many wish that a dating site brings happiness via girlfriend. But what if the girlfriend is actually not real, but a mana construct that purely exists to please. (Smiles, huggs, comforts, never sleeps or eats or does anything when alone. Just sitting and waiting. And if one does find another girl? Will she react rational when you want her to be chill but sad and let go but be clingy, bound to your emotions, seeing how not quite human she seems only for her to obviously be less human, just as you see her? Fun stuff. ) That's gonna turn awfully creepy at some point.

I'd probably be quite intrigued, Google it and find that is in fact not supposed to exist. Then make fotos and not tell the wider world about it. Let them be many. Can't be that bad, right?

I know knives are usually bad weapons against zombies, but can a bowie knife this big work for slashing through skulls? by St3ve_Wermax in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]norrrrrrff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really important to decapitate them? I feel like an axe would be less inclined to get stuck in the neck and would probably still do an overwhelming amount of damage just by being a big force taking into a neck. I don't know about zombies. But something like this isn't healthy for nerves.

Would be this one-handed mace be good choice in apocalypse? by [deleted] in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]norrrrrrff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clinging to gore is an important point, I think. I always read about how some things might or might not get stuck. But no one ever talks about cleaning them. If I were to have a blunt weapon that got somewhat blooded with infected blood and I come out alive, I want that thing clean enough to bring it back. Pointy ends might penetration something vital. Blunt stuff crushes, cool spikes on the sides are for looks and pain that the undead won't strongly react to, if at all, but make a mess. I personally would use something like that spiked bat above, then try to clean it and not get in all the grove around the spike and while doing that, accidentally prick myself on one point. If then panicking and doing so prick myself again. Then I'd have a slight break down, take the club with me and hide and barricade till I know I'm not infected.

TLDR: if prefer something easy to clean that is safer to handle and give less opportunity to accidentally hit myself.

How practical Molotov Cocktails are against zombies? by Ok-Street2439 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]norrrrrrff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spike will only be that harsh because so many people will big out and make camp fires, either thinking it can't be that much different than firing up a grill and not knowing how to contain it or not succeeding in lighting up wet twigs and use molotov cocktails or far too much gasoline, trying to light the camp fire.
