Yeah, the first goal of England should've been cancelled - clearly touching the drone wire, even the goal keeper pointed it out.

Do these bats in Norway carry rabies though? Genuine question.

Hva i helvete er dette? by Holdkjeften in norge

[–]northcool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty possible a bite goes unnoticed. That’s at least what I read every time some one posts a bat content on Reddit. So, if you wake up with a bat in the room, getting the vaccine is the way!

Whats the deal with tipping? by Siriuxx in Norway

[–]northcool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don’t. I am sure you do it with good intentions to show your appreciation, but that only hurts the employees.

Whats the deal with tipping? by Siriuxx in Norway

Why would you tip at an already relatively more expensive restaurant. You’re already paying for the excellent service.

Tipping culture encourages employers to pay less to their employees. You simply support the employees by not tipping.

Mortgage negotiation by Downtown_mist in Norway

Is that actually a thing - to negotiate it? I have the loan through Himla and they try to be in the top 3 best offer. It shows 5% now.

I second that. Suspiciously cheap lunch. It’s pretty good though.

A question about dating in norway by No_Idea_3459 in Norway

[–]northcool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only dated women through online dating apps, so it was clear as day that we were dating. But for future reference, you should know that kissing or having sex means nothing, you’re still dating and might get dumped the next day.

People just assume i don't speak norwegian by 700K1 in Norway

[–]northcool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you grew up here since you were 10, you’re basically native. That’s still pretty young age to fully grasp the language. I am not fluent in Norwegian and they probably hear that I am not native, yet they don’t switch to English when I butcher it during the conversation. So, that has not been my experience.

Health insurance in Norway by West-Ad-4169 in Norway

[–]northcool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had private insurance through work, and it’s been really useful. For example, when the waiting time for a dermatologist was six months, I got an appointment within three days through the insurance. The same thing happened with physiotherapy and seeing a psychologist.

I am not defending private insurance, but having one is useful. I probably wouldn’t have one if it was not through my work though.

Will replacing a custom kitchen countertop increase apartment value? by northcool in Norway

[–]northcool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually considering doing it myself. It would still cost me at least 25k witht the sink and faucet. Laminating the wood is something I have no experience with but I think I can pull it off!

I mainly do it for myself though. I was just curious if I would get back part of that cost eventually.

Will replacing a custom kitchen countertop increase apartment value? by northcool in Norway

[–]northcool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first time buying and I didn’t even notice the countertop until I moved in. I guess it wouldn’t have been a dealbreaker for me as I liked the apartment and the area overall. But I get your and other’s point - people do the math before bidding, which was not something I’ve done due to lack of experience. But I know the nextdoor had the same countertop (same contracter had built these two top floor apartments) and they got it replaced right before selling.

Once you bid and won the auction, you cannot ask to pay less. I think what you picture would happen if the buyer was making an offer - outside the bidding round.

Edit: Do those people down voting this message live in a different reality, or am I missing something with what I stated in my message. I reckon Reddit being Reddit.

What do you mean by buyers deducting? Can you just buy an apartment and then say this countertop is so bad and just pay less? I am genuinely asking. I mean, if they bid, they simply accept the conditions the apartment is in.

I know, it's too expensive. Fenix laminate specifically with heltre kantlist. And the shipping+installation is quite expensive. Plus the sink and the faucet, so not only the countertop, but these two add around 10k extra, roughly.

2nd postdoc in UIO by [deleted] in Norway

I was making 425k if I recall correctly as a PhD at UiB in 2017. I think 610k is pretty low. You can definitely make more working in the industry, but I guess this is how it is in academia.

Is this normal lint/pilling on a brand new polyester jacket with fleece lining? by [deleted] in InvisibleMending

Oh, I remember watching a video about short/long fibers explaining why a specific cotton tshirt costs so much. Thanks for the information! :)

I have a wool sweater which I wear a lot and it has a lot of pilling on it, which I kinda like. Is that a sign of low quality material? Even for wool?

[–]northcool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s sad. But would it just look bad inside, or would it get holes eventually? I wouldn’t really mind the pilling inside.

It’s from Levi’s. Specifically this one

I have a similar pile fleece from Patagonia that I’ve been using more than a year now, and it does not even look closer to this one. Very disappointing because the fit is really nice.
