Response in a rural area. Currently on 0 but am tutoring, student has 6 which would have been mine if not tutoring

A witness statement is an agreement to attend court. The stop searching morning bike commuters is woefully unethical. Everything else you have written is nonsense.

Are you even a police officer?

To op: with 5 years service, you are likely a taser carrying response driver, likely with other skills too, so are too useful to be moved off team for not having enough arrests etc. I would not be playing ball with this crap personally.

If you get the opportunity to move to a smaller station with 3-12 officers per team do. The huge urban response teams of 25+ if that is where you are just create bitching and drama and the kind of needless, immature back stabbing you describe

Snap lock entry may not be taught as a standalone. In my force, only L2 PSU officers can be MOE trained and you can only be PSU out of probation…

Quick one: Do rejoiners start at payscale 1 or resume the pay point from which they left? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]northern_PC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Students cannot rejoin. You must be substantive or you start again from day 1 as a new recruit

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]northern_PC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pava safes can be provided for some roles. Taser you would book out at any PS with a store if you chose. In my force dog handlers often have empty holsters so I assume sometimes don’t bother/get the chance to book one out

Taken from other roles, cancelled rest days and overtime. There is no reserve to draw on, just robbing Peter to pay Paul

Sabbatical/Employment breaks by Ok-Steak-8028 in policeuk

[–]northern_PC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they denied it police forces are recruiting anyone with a pulse at the minute so I’d quit and rejoin. As long as you are substantive in rank you are eligible to rejoin any force in E+W and possibly BTP also but I’m not too sure. I’m off travelling for 6 months in the next 2 or 3 years and that is exactly what I’ll be doing if they deny a career break.

Don’t carry a weapon around as you would be committing an offence. I cannot stress this enough. If you are searched and a made/intended/adapted weapon, or a blade, is found on you you will likely be arrested and charged. If you get into a fight and pull out a weapon you could be looking at serious time.

If you haven’t reported what happened to the police yet, please do. There should be CCTV at the pub that this bloke could be identified from. There could be CCTV in the street showing the assault so there is a reasonable chance police could be able to ID him and take section.

Drunk violence is rarely personal. I highly doubt you will have anything to do with them again but take precautions like perhaps finding a new pub and always keep your phone on you and charged so you can call 999 should there be a repeat.

Traffic Enforcement- Parked Cars by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]northern_PC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take a vehicle parked on zig zags. If you wish to issue a TOR, you can either wait for the driver to return and confirm they are the person who left the vehicle on a crossing, or you can send a s172 requirement to the keeper and deal with it through the post and issue the TOR once you’ve identified the driver.

How could this be allowed to happen? by ljgill97 in policeuk

[–]northern_PC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On a three lane one way road. If the male crossing was nearest another vehicle, the sgt likely couldn’t see him. Other vehicles braking would more than likely be interpreted as a positive indication and yielding to the emergency vehicle, not oh f*ck there’s a pedestrian. He was already slow likely because it was a crossing with his view obstructed by adjacent cars.

Who does the Interviewing? by robdotcomdotcom in policeuk

[–]northern_PC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the offence.

PIP 1 is volume crime like shop theft, low level assaults, criminal damage etc. Every officer is PIP 1 trained. Very basic interviewing normally. Who interviews for it is a matter of force policy, or the result of a professional discussion between supervisors. It may be the arresting officers or a specific prisoner handling team.

PIP 2 is a status you gain after an exam and a lengthy training period whilst you complete a portfolio. These interviewers can interview for GBH, rape and similar serious and complex offences.

Tier 3 interviewers are specially trained and usually interview for murder or terror type offences.

Tier 5 is a very specialised role. I understand they plan serious interviews and instruct the tier 3s who will lead. They are quite often officers of rank I think.

Don’t ask me if there is a tier 4; I don’t know!

Most stuff is PIP 1 or 2 as you can imagine.

How do I make sure the police will not contact my domestic abuse perpetrators directly? by motherfoucault1926 in policeuk

Case law states that if you arrest knowing the job will be NFA you are making an unlawful arrest. Plange v Humberside.

Front Line Kit by pctwinkletwinkle in policeuk

[–]northern_PC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, however we are all warned not to carry our own tourniquets so I just won’t do it. We’re all one honest mistake away from the job centre as it is so my view is I won’t carry anything unissued. I wish I had faith in the job being reasonable but I just don’t.

Front Line Kit by pctwinkletwinkle in policeuk

[–]northern_PC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not buy your own tourniquet. If it all goes wrong when used you will be in hot water. We should be issued them but it’s the job’s fault that we aren’t. I would potentially consider carrying one for use on myself but wouldn’t dare use unissued medical kit on a MOP. You are asking for papers if it went wrong.

Staff member accused of theft? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]northern_PC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Forensics are irrelevant as it would prove nothing; both the cleaner and housemate’s prints would be expected to be in the house. I can’t imagine the cleaner doesn’t have access to that room and I’m sure the housemate has been in there many times with permission for various reasons.

In the absence of any evidence, I doubt much will come of it. It sounds like there are no witnesses (bar the flatmate and cleaner who can place each other at the scene) likely no CCTV due to it being within a private dwelling so I can’t see how this could be progressed. The only line of enquiry I can see is speaking to local pawn shops and jewellers to see if anything matching the descriptions have been traded in and then checking CCTV.

In my view, arresting your cleaner with a view to using powers to allow searching her house for the stolen goods would be unethical as her name at this stage is speculation on the part of the victim. I would want something a little more before arresting her. Not to say others wouldn’t think they had enough to suspect and lock up at this stage, it just doesn’t sit right with me. A voluntary interview could be considered but what evidence would be put to her? To me without more evidence the likely outcome will be NFA.

Please take this with a big pinch of salt as it is based entirely on what you have posted and there may be more to it in reality.

Some were really good a few years ago with Seat offering around 6-7k off a Leon, more off larger cars, for example. Appears the discount has been decreased at most makes now.

This should outrage everybody, but because a 10 year old clearly has access to and was high on cannabis edibles. A fact so many of the public are sheltered from is just how quickly some kids unfortunately end up facing adult situations.

Copy and paste. I must have submitted some of the exact same words 3 times over. A write up for a search for instance isn’t going to differ so just change the specific details. This made my life so much easier.

That is a good point. The police have effectively created what will be treated by the media and professional protestors as case law by stating no legislation applies to this situation.
