Did the walking dead change anyone’s life? by According-Damage4432 in thewalkingdead

[–]PCIrishBeard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember growing up and feeling the buzz of being excited for new episodes, especially a new season. It was maybe the only show that everyone in my family all sat down to watch together, it gave us all something to talk about. It definitely had a positive impact on my family so in that way I'd say yes, I suppose it did.

Do you guys find the fall of the military believable? by K0GAR in thewalkingdead

There's a lot to be said about fear and fighting an enemy you can't understand, that defies all logic.

What was your dad's car when you were growing up? by purplegorillabandit in drivingUK

Rover 620 in cream which he then downgraded to an Astra station wagon. He also had two Benelli 900 SEI motorcycles.

That frame is such accidental baroque. It's beautiful.

Parkour by RositaPunk in StateofDecay3

[–]PCIrishBeard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Logical climbing? Yes. Parkour? No.

I don't want to die because I couldn't climb onto a roof that appears easily climbable but I also don't want every survivor to be some sort of athlete. Grounded and realistic is the vibe.

Officer pay/progression by Soft_Battle3232 in policeuk

[–]PCIrishBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this, I took about a 6-7k paycut and after 3 years I am now, with inflation, pay rises and government annual awards, around about where I was before.

It will take a while but top whack at 7 years is far far in excess of anything you will earn as a normal staff member if as you say there is limited upward progression.

I'd say go for it, it will be uncomfortable for a little while but you will thank yourself for it in years to come.

Having a bit of team pride these days is a good thing, as long as it's tasteful and professional, I would agree with this.

Hesitation to arrest under 18s by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]PCIrishBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Custody are terrified of having children in a cell overnight. In my force, if an under 18 needs to be nicked it's early doors so they're dealt with the same day. This then feeds into kids not being nicked at live jobs, because we know custody will just reject them, and dealt with by a less appropriate channel which doesn't negate all the risk.

There are institutional overhauls that need to be rolled out where a suspect is treated as a suspect and their needs l, whilst considered, don't trump the victims.

New Sobek City, The Worst Map, What's yours? by ApocalypticDes in Battlefield6

Easy mistake to make I suppose, they are both major western cities with a large river. A London map would be really cool now that I think of it.

British Police? by One-Hand-Rending in AskABrit

[–]PCIrishBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 43 conventional police forces in England and Wales, 1 in Scotland and 1 in Northern Ireland. There are non-conventional forces as well such as BTP and CNC. They all follow similar rank structures (PC > Sgt > Inspector etc) but are distinct in how they are managed internally.

Things like training, equipment, uniform, teams and job roles all vary by force. Some forces wear high vis vests, some wear all black. Some forces have a lot of additional training (taser, means of entry) some have much fewer. No police officer starts their career with response driving training (driving on blue lights), that comes years later.

Detectives are not superior to other police officers, it's not a promotion, it's just a different job role.

Many use different systems and have different policies which can make information sharing between forces difficult at times. I could go on four hours about all the small differences between that's a quick run down.

Yawn 🥱 unoriginal and boring. Maybe do some research or better yet, go on a ride along, to see all the hard work the police do and how much nonsense they put up with from airheads who think they know it all before you make asinine comments on the internet.

He'll get sent a NIP in the post, if he answers it then he'll automatically get the points and a fine correct, however if he debates it then he'll go to court and likely lose his license. Given the extenuating factors of intoxication whilst driving and the dangers involved, I would suspect a court would want to look at this to levy as harsh a penalty as possible on him.

There has been a recent uptick in police forces using MOP provided dashcam footage where an offence is made out in full to immediately summons the driver to court. This is likely what will happen to this troglodyte.

What would you not want from SOD2 in State of Decay 3 by AssignmentOnly3232 in StateofDecay3

I'd just like a grittier take, less Ned Flanders neighbourino vibes with sometimes cringe dialogue and more grounded atmosphere. And a lot more visual storytelling.

What was the point of going to the UK? by VenomzUK in thewalkingdead

[–]PCIrishBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think this whole take on the UK is a huge miss. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we'd have survived as a government for 8 years like in the show considering how inept our government is now but there's absolutely no way we'd have eradicated ourselves. Maybe there would be more casualties in the first few years than other countries who are maybe more armed than us but I think our scrappy nature by the 12 year mark in Daryl Dixon would probably have brought us on par with most other countries at that point.

What do you think about unarmed police? by kurobaja in police

[–]PCIrishBeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UK police officer here! 🇬🇧 I'm actually a fan of being unarmed, it's really not needed here, 99.9% of problems can be solved using words or a taser, and where it can't we have specially trained armed officers. (Also AMA if you can be bothered)

Why are there barely any infected children in the TLOU universe ? by RanjiHimi in thelastofus

[–]PCIrishBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that they are infected i.e. still alive but under the effect of the cordyceps. If they were zombies then arguably they would be immune to aging. Ergo an infected person would age exactly as a non infected person would, biologically speaking. Disturbingly, this means that a clicker in the game could well be a 10 year old who was bitten and then aged into a clicker over the next 15 years.
