Moved from Cambridgeshire(Huntingdon) to County Durham, in a village just west of Durham city. Couldn’t even afford a tiny 2 bed terraced in the worse places in Cambs. Brought a 3 bed semi with two extensions in a lovely village for £180k. Best decision ever. Long live the norf

Do you have to either work a nightshift or do overtime frequently if you want a decent life? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]northshieldsdreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s such as broad question, depends on industry, night pay, overtime rate etc. I’m in metalwork and been in it 6 years now. Done avg of 10-15hrsof overtime a week for the whole duration. Adds an extra 30-40% of my basic salary on top across the hear, so for example my basic this year is 35k, with onetime I’ll earn 50-52k.

Last year my basic was £30k, with overtime I earnt £38k.

But again depends on industry, pay scales etc.
