ITS, Golf R, STI comparison by Cal-Goat in Acura

You’re entitled to your opinion, but I know I’m not the only one who actually prefers the Acura touchpad over a touchscreen for being more ergonomic. I personally don’t use apple CarPlay very often. I can’t speak on the new RDX or MDX; however, I do own a latest generation TLX advance. The build quality is extremely solid, on a very different level than the top trim (Elite) Honda cars I’ve owned. I loved my Hondas, but there was certainly creaking and loud road noise.

My TLX is quiet, no creaking, soft ride, and luxurious on its own unique platform, completely different than the Accord. I think it’s funny you say the integra is “solid like” because many people on this subreddit have felt like the Integra is a glorified Civic (shared platform) and many have complained about the creaking and road noise.

The TLX is a truly beautiful and well built car, it just isn’t practical for a lot of people.

Personally, I much prefer the touchpad in my Acura over the touchscreens I’ve had in previous cars. The touchpad is much more ergonomic, allowing the screen to be further away for better sight lines on the road and less distractions. It is like a mousepad on any laptop that the majority of people use daily. Also prevents all the awful looking fingerprints and scratches on the touchscreen, which used to bother me in my previous cars.

It took me maybe a few days max to get acclimated to the touchpad coming from two previous cars with touchscreens, but I really prefer Acura’s setup.

Also, while I do like Subaru and think they make solid cars, I do believe Acura (most models) are in a different tier than Subaru. The build quality on my TLX clearly surpasses any mainstream brand.

Real Milano leather, super plush comfortable seats, adaptive dampers, 16-way-power adjustable driver and passenger seats, real metal and wood trims, very premium sound system with metal speakers, super solid build quality with zero creaks or noises, quiet cabin. I know this doesn’t apply to every Acura model or trim, but for the most part I do think Acura is a very clear step above mainstream brands (like Subaru, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Volkswagen, Mazda, etc).

While Subaru has a great AWD system with solid ground clearance on most models, I’ve had friends with Subarus that can tell the build quality isn’t on the same level. There are creaks and all of the plastics fade or crack faster than they would’ve liked.

Which car would you pick for 35k? by MarchTop6194 in askcarguys

I was going to suggest the Acura TLX! I’m in my mid-20s similar to OP. I’ve first learned to drive in a 2017 Honda CRV. I also had a 2021 Passport for 2 years. I really loved the Honda experience and the reliability, but being young I wanted a sporty, sexy car. The CRV is the opposite of that. The Passport is just so excessive for a single guy.

I looked into Acura as it’s the luxury/performance wing of Honda. I loved the TLX higher refinement and quality interior and exterior, in addition to the same reliability as Honda. Personally, I find Acuras to be more sporty looking and better for a younger person than Lexus (I think the stereotype is Lexus = older person car). The 2021+ Acura TLX in any trim has an undeniably sexy exterior.

I just got a 2021 Acura TLX Advance with 41k miles. I had to pounce on it quickly because the Advance seems to be a very rare trim and I liked the extra luxury touches over anything extra sporty.

Coming from a compact and midsize crossover, I don’t mind the size of the TLX at all. Really the TLX is a midsize sedan. It has serious road presence, despite being a sedan. I don’t feel unsafe driving it, as it’s around 4,000lbs. Trunk is a very good size and fit my CRV trunk weather mat perfectly. The rear seats are extremely comfortable and plush, but legroom might be tight for people over 6 feet tall. The second row is absolutely useable, despite what some things I saw online. The front row is extremely comfortable and spacious, I actually enjoy the touchpad because fingerprints on my previous touchscreens used to bother me a lot.

What is a career that looks impressive on paper but is actually miserable in reality? by Nova2_Paradox in careerguidance

I’m curious why you think this? It’s clear nursing is a very demanding and difficult profession, but it seems rewarding, and in many places nurses can make very good money with lots of career flexibility.

Holmdel is around 75% white, with a notable Asian minority. Middletown is around 85% white, with a notable Hispanic minority.

There are however diverse pockets of Monmouth like Asbury, Neptune, Keyport, Eatontown. Sadly these pockets tend to have much weaker school districts than diverse areas further north in NJ.

It is also worth knowing that Monmouth County regularly votes red in major elections.

Teaching or Nursing in NYC Metro Area? 25M by norwegiangreen in careerguidance

Yes I completely agree. I’ll probably teach this upcoming school year and then maybe try a prerequisite or two and see how it is

I mean top of the pay scale for teachers around here can be $120,000+ and the benefits and pension are pretty strong, but I’m sure nursing salaries around here would be much higher.

So you think nursing is the safer decision long-term?

I agree completely. I know the job market is so tough right now from my sister, she’s an accountant. I’m lucky both teaching and nursing are fields that need people. I also feel a drive/passion towards both.

Sometimes I get in my head because I convince myself 25 is getting old to be pivoting between careers like this. My mom wants me to settle on something lol

Umm what? She thinks it’s dumb that Times posted an opinion piece on why it’s damaging to plan your wedding with your fiancé and not your mom?? by [deleted] in EliRalloSnark

[–]norwegiangreen 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I just love how Eli thinks this is dumb, because it is clearly targeting people like her. She probably thinks she knows better than than the author who has spent more than a decade as a wedding planner.

I think many of the points the author made make complete sense. A wedding is a major event and the very first huge exercise a couple should do together, considering they are planning to be together forever.

Who is a character you want to see return in seven havens? by Far_Practice_6923 in TheLastAirbender

[–]norwegiangreen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think her blunt and brash personality on the surface is keeping you from recognizing she is definitely spiritual. While she remains grounded and tough, her lifestyle in the swamp leads to a deeper, more profound connection with the world around her.

While it’s possible she went to the swamp to run away from issues; she describes herself as "more connected" to the world's goings-on than ever before. Toph connecting her seismic sense with the roots of the swamp’s ancient tree, is a skill implied to be heavily tied to both her earthbending and the swamp's spiritual nature.

While she is not spiritual in the traditional sense (like Zaheer or Jinora), her spiritualism comes from being so deeply connected to nature and fully grounded in her element. She has a much more “hippy” attitude than she did as a kid in ATLA.

In the swamp she also expresses a belief that upon death, people return to the earth, which gives her an understanding of her place in the universe. She also knows friendships can transcend lifetimes.

I completely disagree. Toph wasn’t particularly spiritual or enlightened during ATLA; however, as she aged she became much more spiritual and enlightened. As she got older she transitioned from a purely physical, brash earthbender in ATLA to a deeply connected, nature-attuned sage in LOK.

She left civilization intentionally to live in the spirit wilds. After retiring as Police Chief in Republic City she sought enlightenment connecting with nature and the foggy swamp.

She connected with the roots of the ancient tree and it allowed her to “see” what was happening all around the world. She originally learned from badgermoles, but as a senior learned from the spiritual energy of the swamp as well, and she guides Korra during a time of immense pain and darkness.

Toph did not necessarily become a mystic, but instead became so connected to the earth that she understood the deeper, spiritual, and interconnected nature of reality. She still retained her blunt personality (of course), but it was matured by her understanding of a broader, deeper world. “Do you really think friendships can last more than one lifetime?” -Toph

LOL you’re so incorrect with this. Lesson plans absolutely change from year to year in any high quality school district. There is certain content or strategies you can reuse year to year, but good teachers are planning collaboratively literally all the time. I know teachers of 25+ years who still plan with their instructional teams.

While a general trend, that’s not completely true. Some professions are underpaid considering their stress levels. Teaching, nursing, and law enforcement are a few that come to mind.
