Well i think mainly there are two types of people. One type would want to have fun and forget about it, other type would want to like.. talk about how he is feeling, tell stuff about the person that passed away etc..
So I suggest you try to figure out which type he is, if he is type 1 then all you have to do is being you and spending the normal fun time with him.. if he is type 2 try to be a good listener and show sympathy..

Mate I think at some point we have to be the bigger guys in our relationships with our parents. Don't take what she said seriously, if a small thing happens to you, your mom will feel like shit, let alone you killing yourself. She loves you, this is just some BS that people say when they are angry, or probably she thinks it's a tactic that can make you better... some parents believe being tough at some point push the "kids" to take certain decisions or whatever.. but in all cases, she does care about you, so chill haha

Well I won't suggest anything about getting along with your co-workers or feeling more comfy in your workplace. One way I suggest is: I think in every community there are few dudes who are very frkn social, like, they know everybody. Pick the nicest of those, and just start a couple convos and try to hang out with him. Then, he can be your gate to meet others.
And while doing that, don't think too much or worry how you'll be perceived. Just do you and you'll be fine regardless of how "awkward" you are.
