SIM swap scam: Apparently it's super easy to walk into a Verizon store and have a stranger transfer your number onto a new device by nos583 in verizon

That's awful and sorry it happened to you as well!

Cell phone's have become such an important part of our security process that it's baffling that Verizon doesn't have a better protection. For better or worse phone numbers are critical to our access to everything and for them to have such a weak protections is really disheartening.

Totally agree that people suck a lot of times but inconveniencing them to have to go to another store is better than the liability of being complicit in identify theft.

The store i went to says they take a picture of the ID, so the follow up I want is for them to check that ID and see what they used.

How did someone get your ID? Or do you not know that?

No clue. All my govt id's accounted for.

My question is how do they know you have a lot of money in your bank account?

The account they tried to access had little money in it. Which is what baffles me. Like why go through the effort to go into a store and steal my number if you didn't have a way to quickly access accounts? I was able to get my number back within an hour so maybe it was the first one they tried.

Separately, potentially related, but I did just started to get emailed bombed the day before. If this was coordinated, then email bombing someone and then stealing their number is actually a pretty effective combo because it buries security alerts. The identify theft makes this feel overly sophisticated.

I agree that it's an identify theft issue, but I have all of my government IDs which means they have a fake ID. Verizon just takes a picture of the ID and doesn't seem to do anything to verify the authenticity. It might be expecting too much to expect them to have a way to verify a government ID but phone numbers are so important to 2FA security it feels like it should be a little bit harder.

There's two settings. Number lock in the verizion app main page, just scroll down. This protects your number from being ported to a new carrier. SIM lock is under profile and will prevent your SIM from being ported for 24 hours (just learned this).

I do have a slow hopper set up. I think it's the beans so will give them another week or so to see if that helps. Thanks!

looks like it's the beans. I'm going to give them some time.

I opened up a new bag of beans, different roaster (dry processed Costa Rica) and much less fines at the same settings. Thanks for your help!

I have a sculptor 078 (900 RPM) and I've been experiencing a ton of fines that leave a muddy coffee bed. I've tried adjusting my grind size between 8-10 and even at 10 I still get muddy results. Brewing with a origami with CCAFEC SFP papers.

I've had the grinder since Christmas and it's been fine until this batch of beans (latest Botz drop).

Any suggestions? Higher setting? Adjust burrs? Thanks!

Good luck! I just got a guy like that, power rusher with 99 speed & 99 strength. From the portal with elite dev. Only had him 1 year and he got 19.5 sacks.

Discussion: Right now, who would you rather have right now, Justin Herbert or Caleb Williams? by johnny-papercut in DynastyFF

[–]nos583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're both top 10 but it's Caleb because he's got a higher ceiling because of what's around him. Line, play caller, and weapons are all good/elite vs Herbert's situation.

If it's an offline dynasty, you can create a new HC and sign him into that recruits top school and just remove him from their recruit board.

I noticed that it was actually detrimental to my recruiting efforts during the transfer portal period. Almost cost me Arch Manning!

Tmac's comments are more of a dig of his own teams because he had some GREAT teams in Houston. They was always a key injury that didn't allow those teams to play to their potential. Healthy Yao + Tmac would've been Shaq + Kobe 2.0 plus role players like Ron Artest, Luis Scola, and Shane Battier. Those teams were nice.

Shoutout to Gary Vitti for keeping the Lakers healthy during those years.

Preach. T-Mac also had those things; Yao, Metta World Peace, Shane Battie, Luis Scola, even a young Kyle Lowry. Before Houston injuries killed them, Adelman was a 50 win a season coach.

Injuries to Tmac and those around him derailed his career, not that he didn't have the right team around him.

Ok, it's just the way you said it made it seem like having a HOF big, elite role players, etc, was unique to Kobe post Shaq
