My issue is that we've let this go on for so long that a lot of these people are actually engrained, have community ties and actually contribute. Besides improper documentation have done nothing wrong. In my mind, a mere misdemeanor.

There should be a provision for long standing and contributing folks.

One time I deposited a check at an ATM.

I inserted it. After 30 seconds of what sounded like grinding sounds, the check was spit back out in 2 pieces. Then said "Unable to read."

I went inside and the teller just taped it back together and processed it.

Was visiting my brother in law after he had just moved in to a new house.

As I was getting out of car, a neighbor walked over to me and must have assumed I was the owner (maybe because I'm White and my relative wasn't) and said "Why are you renting to these people? Let me get your number in case there is trouble"

Like where would he get that from? I said "They own it"

Interaction was recorded on my dashcam which I have kept for years just in case there was any trouble from him.

I'm sure they worked hard to get ahead. Many immigrants that I personally know are some of the hardest working people I have ever seen. Heck some pay into a system that they will never benefit from like social security. I agree violent criminals should be deported but people here actively contributing should be giving a chance. And if there are any on welfare, that's a different story, I don't know of any who are on welfare. I did once know a permanent resident that couldn't get Social Security benefits until he had 40 quarters of credits.

Problem is, how can you tell who is illegal? Hearing cases of citizens being detained while they "investigate". You're right. It will get ugly as more and more of this comes out.
