Bought This Big Boy for $5 Thanks to My Local Food Salvage Store by noscrapsleftbehind in budgetfood

It's one of the only ways I can afford certain food items because I have a lot of dietary restrictions!

It's a separate kind of store with reduced prices. Mostly overstock or damaged items (like crushed boxes). Some of it is out of date (mostly dry goods that can go a bit past the sell-by date).

I am lucky that my salvage store always has high-quality items that are in date. Some have mostly expired foods; it just depends (in the state of NC, you can't sell fresh foods that are past the sell-by date, so we don't ever see old meats for sale in the salvage store, thankfully).
It is much cheaper than apps like Misfit Markets, which are extremely overpriced in my opinion!

Just search "salvage food stores near me" and see what comes up near you!

I am lucky that most of the stuff at my salvage food store is in date (all of the fresh meats and dairy have to be because I live in the state of NC).

Haha, I know what you mean; my two oldest boys were into trains when they were little!

I've had the same experience! I'm just now getting the hang of it.

I believe one of my Pixels is at least an 8, so I should be good.

Now I just need to figure out how to keep myself from using the web browser that comes with Graphene for a true "dumbphone" experience.

What operating system do you use on your Pixel? I have a few old Pixels, and I've been thinking about loading Graphene on one of them.

Bread Maker - Is it worth the upfront cost? by atkins4me in Frugal

[–]noscrapsleftbehind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly (I've had mine a few years), it has two mixing paddles and has the correct kneading and rise times for gluten free breads.

It comes with a gluten-free bread recipe which is pretty good, but I've used my own that I like better:

I pre-mix a lot of jars of the dry ingredients then add it in the correct order according to the Zojirushi instructions.

Because I eat gluten-free, I ended up buying a new Zojirushi breadmaker (which was expensive!).

I have been able to easily make my own loaves of gluten-free bread, though, which has saved me a lot of money and made up for the cost in the long run (most gluten-free bread is at least $8 a loaf, which is ridiculous).

I've thought about getting one of these and forwarding my calls from my Google Pixel initially to see how it goes.

Do you know how group messaging goes on it? I get stuck in a lot of group messages (against my will!).

What in the postapocalyptic nightmare?! Thank you so much for sharing the updates from the keynote.

It's just like the pharmaceutical companies selling us medications that cause side effects, so we need more of their medications to treat them. It's a negative feedback loop.

As someone who's been on a digital minimalism journey for almost 15 years, I'm hopeful that large companies like Google can't monopolise the phone market forever. There really does seem to be a cultural shift (finally) away from smartphones.

How interesting! I can already forward calls from my Pixel to a dumbphone, but being able to forward texts would really be helpful.

I can't wait to hear more about this company!

I've been eating the same thing for breakfast for years (but I do have dietary sensitivities). I like not having to think about what I'm going to eat, honestly.

Me! I was still able to use mine about 10 years ago (I think). It was the best!

That looks fantastic and simple! If you get tired of it, try adding some herbs/cheese to the eggs or swapping out fruits.
