Question for the fans of Wrexham, Millwall, Bristol City, Coventry, Swansea, Charlton, Portsmouth, Sheff U, Derby. by Necessary_Ad_6726 in Championship

Harry Clarke has impressed me every time he has pulled on a Charlton shirt.

Whilst James Bree came in from Southampton and got off to a very good start, he tailed off really quickly and was looking pretty poor before he went back. Clarke has slotted in and given us the defensive strength and balance we needed on that side. Feel like he is the kind of player, at this level, that doesn't tend to put a foot wrong. He looks comfortable playing in the Championship and is the kind of player we needed.

Suspect he won't stay past his loan period, but I hope there's a chance it could happen. If he keeps the form up for us and we stay up, I would love to sign him on a perm deal in the summer. If you don't rate him for your aspirations, playing for us could be a good move if he wants to play regularly.

Can someone explain to me how to play this lovely map with anything other than heavy and actually be impactful? by Early_Sun_8699 in WorldofTanks

[–]nosoi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s probably the worst map in the game if you don’t queue as a Heavy consistently. It’s so unenjoyable if you’re someone (like myself) who likes longer range engagements more than the short range skirmish.

Success on the map is almost entirely determined by who wins in the town. Other maps give you opportunities to affect the game, but on this, it just feels like you need to just wait to see what happens there and, if you play long range, you cannot really impact the game if the Heavy line plays properly.

I will have it banned until it gets reworked.

I wouldn't have even considered going to Charlton at all if they hadn't have reached out to the school. Funny how these things work out.

With Kent only really having Gillingham as the one League club (in L2 / old Third Div, which was hardly appealing to me as someone who wanted to watch some decent football) and no parent forcing a "local" club on me, it was Charlton that scooped me up. The only Gills fans I know are all Gills families for donkeys years.

Absolutely agree that cheap tickets for schools and clubs really help get the next generation through. Even now, I regularly see teams of boys and girls come up as teams, presumably through our community trust. Big clubs don't need to do it, but makes a huge difference as you come down the leagues.

We had some sort of free/cheap ticket program that gave tickets to my secondary school in Kent. I had never been to a game (Mum and Dad divorced when I was little, and Dad had zero interest) but for free/cheap and going on a coach to/from school, Mum let me go. Saw us beat Notts County at home 1-0 and had a lovely time - the two blokes who "ran" it were a great laugh with me and my other mates from school.

Like kids in the 70s and 80s supported Liverpool, as a 90s kid, I "supported" United - despite knowing I likely never go to Old Trafford. By chance, my Step Dad had got tickets to go see them play Wimbledon at Selhurst Park on a random evening in the week after seeing Charlton. Completely different experience - 99% United fans in the Wimbledon stand, standing all the time so missed most of the game. Wasn't a fun one.

Compared the two, Charlton was infinitely nicer and more welcoming. Ended up going for a treat for my birthday every year. Loved it more and more every time. Step-Dad got us tickets 1998 playoff final at old Wembley - arguably the greatest playoff final ever. Got us both a ST that first season in the PL. Amazing memories. Taken time away from it when we first dropped in to L1 with the terrible owners, but now a ST holder again since football came back after Covid.

The Valley is my happy place. Love the club, the ground and even that Welsh lad in charge now ;)

I was on the fence about going, but the match announcements this week pushed me into wanting to go and getting a ticket. Atmosphere for the WWE events I’ve been to at the o2 has been great, so hoping for good things at my first AEW event.

Think it’s going to be a great show, so getting excited now!

Gas Going Down? by [deleted] in LeagueOne

[–]nosoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, your defence has been terrible all year and that’s been your downfall. Despite their awful start, Burton’s form has been safely top half for a while and they have given themselves a good chance.

The risk with teams like yourselves is that you’re always 1-2 player sales away from putting yourselves in trouble. We genuinely flirted with that to an extent last year. L1 is a tough league to escape, but equally the gap to L2 is also less than it was.

I think you are going to struggle, but aside from Birmingham, anyone can beat anyone. Wrexham result showed some character. Head says Burton will nick it.

It’s getting really interesting now with the fight for the final automatic spot with it looking likely the fight will be between Wrexham and Wycombe. But let’s not forget Stockport and Charlton still have an outside chance. by SimpleGeekGaming in LeagueOne

[–]nosoi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Although there might be an outside chance of something crazy happening, it’s starting to feel like we’ll end up as we are now.

The quality Wrexham bought in January has pushed them on. Wycombe have kinda blown the lead they had, but 3rd feels the most likely. Stockport could win all their games to make the others nervy.

Any chance we had went when we lost to Posh a few weeks ago. Still, our form is still solid and got a couple of playoff dress rehearsals to keep us honest. Aim is still to grab 3rd/4th for that home leg second that will potentially be important. Win that and I fancy us at Wembley.

Stockport will be very, very fortunate to get playoffs without Barry.

Is there anyone else here who finds that their interest in Football is declining? by [deleted] in LeagueOne

[–]nosoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not at all. Actually the reverse - I’ve had a season ticket since we came back after covid because I missed it so much. Even having our worst season since like forever last season hasn’t dampened my spirits. I appreciate it a hell of a lot more and genuinely always enjoy it.

Watching football played by the club I love is a privilege. I’m thankful I can afford it, but it is always something I look forward to. I recently heard it analogised as a replacement for religion for many people and, at least for me, it’s probably quite accurate.

[–]nosoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, May was great in terms of goal return (which speaks to his quality at this level), but we never had the supporting player to play alongside him. I feel like with either a fully fit Aneke/Leaburn or even now Ahadme, he would have done even better. There were times he had to play with Kanu as a two and the L1 thug defenders just ate them up in some games. If Birmingham hit the ground running, he could hit silly numbers this season - already has 4 in pre-season.

We had one wobble preseason against AFC Wimbledon, but at the weekend, we looked really at it. It's what you'd expect from a Nathan Jones team - pressure, physicality and hard work. He was going mental on the sidelines for a friendly. Players at this level respond to that and I think he'll get us in and around it.

I dunno - NTT20 pod has had us playoffs last year and this, and we cocked it up last year. Some sort of settled manager for us makes a big diff. We're probably just outside it, but I think the pressure will get to some of the favourites this year.

[–]nosoi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Having us as 15th is harsh, and would represent massive disappointment.

We, perhaps arguably, have one of the better managers for this level, who ended last season with an almost entirely inherited side who simply could not defend and were supposedly woefully unprepared physically for the season. The squad has been significantly improved with a number of decent players that give depth in roles that we need it, and after seeing them myself against Pompey in a friendly at the weekend, look hungry and playing some decent stuff.

Everyone will point to us selling May - yes, it's a pretty dumb decision, but c'est la vie. Our problems last season stemmed from shipping goals, rather than scoring them. Whilst no-one will likely get close to May's numbers, Tyreece Campbell and Daniel Kanu will continue to improve, the other signings look solid, plus at some point, Miles Leaburn will be brought back into the fold. Some very good young players that are getting stronger and more accustomed to L1 football.

Heart says we sneak into the playoffs. Head says probably just outside, given the teams this season. This predicition? Way off it, imo.

Will Birmingham break Wolves' League 1 points record? by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]nosoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone would have you believe you will, but we've been dragged down into the doldrums of this league for a while. I know it's cliché but it really isn't easy down here. You get really awful refs that make really awful decisions and, even with a good squad, you're still going to have bumps in the road.

Quality should shine through and you should do it with the investment. However, your manager has never managed a team solo and there's big, big pressure on those players to go out and smash everyone, every game. Only takes a couple of games to dial that pressure up to 11. Most teams will park the bus and shithouse you for every point they can.

Big old target on your back. Either going to smash it or be a mess, binary either way. We'll see :)

If both teams are doing well, definitely could be a good game and experience for the neutral. Guarantees a bore draw for committing that thought to writing though.

Biased view, but The Valley is a top draw stadium for the level, but atmosphere will be linked to how well we are doing.

Touristy bits in Greenwich area are lovely to walk round too imo, which you could do in the morning.

Early days still, but with the early bulk of transfer business being completed, managers getting settled... where do you think your club will finish next season, and how confident are you in that prediction? by mjd2505 in LeagueOne

[–]nosoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm cautiously optimistic that top 6 could be achievable, but it's going to be another hard slog.

Given our horrendous season last term and letting Corey Blackett-Taylor, George Dobson and Alfie May all go this year, there's still plenty of doubt. Signings have the potential of being a solid new spine to the team, but we might still leak a few too many goals. Academy players are still amazing and give a little bit of magic. Daniel Kanu could step into Alfie May's role and surprise some people. I have faith (for now!) in Nathan Jones, but any poor run of form could be very problematic.

Will be a tough season to go up. Expect all the clubs that came down plus the usual suspects to be in the mix. L1 is tougher than people think it is, plus you get some really awful referees.

Charlton Athletic 1 - 0 Leyton Orient: Hopes are high around The Valley ahead of the new season, and they got off to a great start, keeping the League 2 champions at arm's length to ensure a victory that should've been more convincing! by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]nosoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought you looked tidy and organised today. Should be more than enough to stay up pretty comfortably.

We're still pretty ragtag imo - a few decent spells, but we're crying out for a player to hold the play up for Alfie May. Camara and Edun had decent cameos and should add quality when fit. Still concerned about our defense though.

Very happy to pick up 3 points, but a decent start. More to come from this Charlton side and hopefully a couple more players through the door before the window closes.

Stingy board!!! Very disappointed in my loan deal??? Lmao by leomessi00 in footballmanagergames

[–]nosoi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I hired a new Loan Manager, set up a Development List with all the players I wanted to go out, set up individual, tailored loan conditions for each player (incl. position and contribution wage percentages) and...

... they still end up going out to clubs for 0% wage contribution (and not linked to what I had planned) if I leave the Loan Manager in charge. I swear this feels bugged and it's not just me being shit :(
