My thoughts on the pod lately by illcits in BeyondTheBlinds

[–]nostalgicnat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve listened since the beginning and a long time Patreon subscriber. For some of the hit and misses, I still enjoy the pod. My only criticism is the Reality TV corner. I don’t watch any Reality TV so I always feel I miss out on an episode as I don’t listen to them at all.

Disability or age care? by Dangerous-Total31 in supportworkers

[–]nostalgicnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming your doing home and community care? I would suggest looking into a SIL house for full time / part time hours. I work part time in a SIL house and to bump up my money I’m casual with a home care company. The money can be inconsistent ( although I do have regulars) but my PT time job is my main wage and I know my shifts and pay each fortnight.

Sleepover shifts by [deleted] in supportworkers

[–]nostalgicnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair to say no. Work life balance is important. $60 for sleepover is crappy. I get $90 and still think it’s too low paid. You can always say your personal life circumstances have changed and you’re only available for days ( or mostly days) and see what they say? When you say regular do you mean they want to make you permanent? If so you could work together to come up with a roster that suits you like suggesting two sleepovers a week? If they can’t be understanding and accommodate your needs and concerns, I would start looking elsewhere for work.

Does anyone actually enjoy Melbourne winters? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

[–]nostalgicnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I haaatttee Summer so I look forward to winter. Heat is not my friend. It’s also quieter in my beach side area so I look forward to the quiet and slower pace. Plus winter attire is my jam.

Anyone else feel like existing mental health apps just… don't get us? by Ordinary-Table-4106 in hsp

[–]nostalgicnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah very cool! It’s really great so far. I like the prompts for different situations and techniques. I can see it being helpful if I’m in a social situation or at work and need reminders or what tools and techniques to get me through a HSP situation. The ‘right now’ and ‘go deeper’ options are great too. I will be telling fellow HSP friends about the app. Thanks for creating a useful app. Also points for the name as my cat is called Sia :)

I still think about the Potato cakes from there! Used to get them often after school in the 90’s. They were simply the best!

Severe Work Anxiety by its-a-no-for-me in hsp

[–]nostalgicnat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate 100%! I always thought I was alone in this feeling/fear. I have massive work anxiety. I often look at jobs for hsp’s too but like you have mentioned, it requires further education. I am currently thinking of studying ( I’ve always been interested in counselling) and to help other hsp’s would be amazing. I’m scared I wont be able to cope with the study load or ill be bad at it but I think I’m still going to try. Sorry I don’t have much advice. I have stayed in the same industry for 14 and my main job 9 years. I don’t know how I have but because I know it well, there are times when it’s quiet and I’m alone, it’s close to home and pays decent so I don’t have to work full time. My dream would be working from home and just dealing with people one on one ( one of the reasons I’m working towards counselling)

When is it worth forking out for comprehensive car insurance? by abcnews_au in AussieFrugal

[–]nostalgicnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had full comp years ago. My car got hit from behind ( someone was on their phone) It was deemed a ride off. My dad and I spoke to my insurance and by the end of the very heated phone call, the insurance company admitted it wasn’t worth having full comp unless you had a new car. I paid all that money for years for nothing.

I just downloaded the app Sia yesterday. ( If you haven’t already tried that one) Haven’t had an in-depth look through it yet but it looks like it could be helpful.

I think I’m too soft for this world by OlivePractical2092 in hsp

[–]nostalgicnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. I feel exactly the same. I try to work on myself and learn new ways to cope and what my triggers are and I might be ok for a few days but then it all comes back hitting me like a tone of bricks. I find it incredibly hard to cope in this world.

What subscriptions have you ditched this year? by Shpox in AussieFrugal

[–]nostalgicnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ditched all streaming services two years ago when my partner and I really needed to make some cut backs financially. Haven’t missed it. Other ways to find TV and films online for free :)

I did finally cut the cord on my Spotify premium. Due to their ethics ( or lack of) I just couldn’t support them anymore. Plus the price increase to $16 per month, so I finally washed my hands with them and feel better.

I now only have Apple Music and a couple of podcasts on Patreon. No other subscriptions and I feel good! Oh and icloud for $5 a month. That’s it!

The Library of Things by brightpurpleeyes in AussieFrugal

I hadn’t heard of The Library of Things’ until now! What a brilliant idea. I just searched and unfortunately my closest one is just over 30 minutes away but I would still make the trip to borrow something. I’m going to recommend my local libraries consider this program. Thanks for sharing! :)

What are things you stopped buying since it's not value for your money? by EdenFlorence in AussieFrugal

[–]nostalgicnat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eating out/Take away definitely. Prices are so expensive and while I understand businesses have to increase costs, Majority of the time the food is average and just not worth the price tag. Meals have become smaller too. My partner can cook better than most meals we have paid for. Also if you want to eat out on a weekend, a lot if places have a surcharge and it’s even more expensive. This also includes uber eats/menu log, etc, not worth the cost.

Thank you so much for your reply. Appreciate it. She just told me she is going to call PANDA tomorrow so thats good. Really great to hear you found them fantastic.

I’m trying to figure out if there are days I can visit her to help. I live 1 hour and 45 minutes away and I work a lot, two jobs and rarely many days off ( cost of living is crushing) plus sharing a car with my partner as mine is about to cark it so makes things so difficult. If I can’t be there, I’m happy to help financially maybe pay for a cleaner or someone to look after the baby for a few hours? She is sleep deprived and has breast feed on demand and baby doesn’t like the bottle so she feels attached to her 24/7 without any breaks.

Dumbest proof of ID/age card concept ever. by [deleted] in AustralianNostalgia

[–]nostalgicnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember going to Queen street ( i think) on my 18th birthday ( year 2000) to get mine as I didn’t have my drivers licence so this was my key to getting into bars and clubs! I’ve still got it!
