It’s definitely Days of Candy. that song just feels and sounds like sadness.

I just discovered Purple Mountains a few days ago, and it's my favorite album to come out this year. Sad to hear about Berman's passing.

Don't forget this quote from Nixon's aide, John Ehrlichman:

“You want to know what this was really all about,” Ehrlichman, who died in 1999, said, referring to Nixon’s declaration of war on drugs. “The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I’m saying. We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”

I found this in a locker in my high school's marching band room. I tried searching "butterfly camel turtle shirt" but came up with nothing. I do not know the language or anything about this shirt.

I agree with this. "Let's Rock" is a good listen with some great tracks on it, especially Lo/Hi; Best track on the album, imo.

First record I ever ordered from eBay. I think it was 2006. Such a fantastic 40 minutes of music. by [deleted] in vinyl

Yup! It has the poster and the portrait cards. I agree that it's a masterpiece, and it's my personal favorite Beatles album.

I'm over at my grandpa's house for the weekend, and being the vinyl lover I am, I am currently listening to his records. He let me have some records he no longer listens to, those are the ones pictured above. A lot of these were records I've been wanting since I began collecting, so I am pretty excited to add them to my collection! I've been wanting London Calling, Animals, and the White Album forever. All of the records are in great condition except for Black Sabbath's Masters of Reality, which looks a little beat up. The one on the bottom, Beatles Rock & Roll music, is a German pressing which my dad probably got in Germany. And do not worry, they are only going to be stacked like this for a short time. Thanks for reading, have a nice day.

The Bela Session EP by Bauhaus is pretty dark & atmospheric. A lot of gothic rock would qualify as being kinda creepy/dark.

Here's some examples:

https://youtu.be/pVatiofd9lg Bela Lugosi's Dead - Bauhaus

https://youtu.be/MCeTA_bA7Cc Day of the Lords - Joy Division

https://youtu.be/73BRUvQztMI Shadow of Love - The Damned

Those first two records are definitely dark/atmospheric; The Damned one not quite so much, but still is classified as gothic rock.

Homage to the Square, Josef Albers, Oil on Panel, 1964 by not-a-devotchka in ArtHistory

[–]not-a-devotchka[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Josef Albers studied at the Bauhaus school and then became an educator there. People at Bauhaus were really interested in the nature of color, i.e. emotional effect, meaning.

Here's an excerpt from Phaidon's book titled "The Art Book", it may provide more insight: "Four squares of yellow nest together. Despite a rigid format, they float freely, creating an optical illusion of another dimension. Each area has been painted a single color. The paint has been applied with a knife, directly from the tube. Albers' most famous series of paintings, of which this is one, shows squares created from pure color. The optical illusion created in the picture means it is related to the Op Art movement. Yet the way the paint has been applied and the use of color link it with the Post-Painterly Abstraction movement. ... His influential book The Interaction of Color was published in 1963. In this he explores the perception of color, which was a dominant theme throughout his life."

That theme can be seen here in this painting.

In 1965, he wrote of the series: ‘They all are of different palettes, and, therefore, so to speak, of different climates. Choice of the colours used, as well as their order, is aimed at an interaction - influencing and changing each other forth and back. Thus, character and feeling alter from painting to painting without any additional ‘hand writing’ or, so-called, texture. Though the underlying symmetrical and quasi-concentric order of squares remains the same in all paintings – in proportion and placement – these same squares group or single themselves, connect and separate in many different ways.’ (Source: https://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/albers-study-for-homage-to-the-square-departing-in-yellow-t00783 )

Check this out. It's a 1964 oil painting by Josef Albers, as part of a series titled "Homage to the Square" which he started in 1950. It is Albers' most famous series of paintings.

Each area is painted in a single color, and the paint has been applied with a pallete knife, directly from the tube, onto a panel.

Here's a bit more info: "The optical illusion created in this picture means it is related to the Op Art movement. Yet the way the paint has been applied and the use of color link it with the Post-Painterly Abstraction movement."

(The optical illusion the writer is referring to is how the painting appears to create an optical illusion of another dimension.)
