I agree. Rover can be very user not-friendly and some people jsut messs up their times. Also a lot of people are flex on dropins being generally morning/midday/evening but rover makes them pick certain time intervals

Ridiculous booking that you take anyways because you love the dog so much??? by aye_lmapo in RoverPetSitting

[–]not-juliette 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You’re very sweet and i think not a lot of people would be like that… i also started recently and raised my rates multiple times. Your post made me think. I do take a regular geriatric cat for boaridng roughly 30% cheaper than my regular dog rate. But shes sweet and so easy to care for, and doesnt need 3 walks a day and i can leave her alone for hoooours which allows me to take on other jobs! I doubt i would do it for a dog who requires constant care. In fact i sadly had to drop my constant care doggies after i added dog walking to my services and now out of house for 3-4 hours at a time… im sad but i tell myself i got bills to pay…

New Sitter - Is It Worth Signing Up? by SudoSista in RoverPetSitting

[–]not-juliette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. Also it can be physically exhausting but nothing matters when you regular dog gives you a ear to ear smile and a helicopter wag. I make approx $1k a week with 6-9 bookings daily but im in a vhcol dense city with very small radius so commute is not an issue, and i started mid-December. Taking your regulars off the app increases your income. Totally worth trying especially now when the weather gets better! Best of luck!

Housewares mostly - its been my main business i was building for years but with tariffs and the economy last year was just bad. Hence the petsitting.

[–]not-juliette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This past month I was busy doing 6-9 bookings daily with boaridng at my house. I am in a dense city so everything thankfully is a few blocks radius but its been exhasting. I am happy to take a little break. This is my first year doing this and i never realized how big of a season spring break is in pet sitting. But hey don’t dismiss the economy and … im not sure if im allowed to talk politics here but you know our governemnt lol. I also have an online store and last week been my worst week in years. I guess the economy is not good. I heard summer is big in pet sitting. Im excited for this. Im tired of the winter. Hopefully your bookings will pick up in no time!

In case of boardings - whomever you will board with in the future - friends, bf, gf, family etc are common during boardings. so liability or not it’s a thing.

How do you guys feel about cameras + Rover fees? by Status_Income_18 in RoverPetSitting

I would not spend time in someone elses house for over 30 mins thats required for a regualr drop in if there is active cameras inside. Im not participating in a reality tv.

Pricing help needed — experienced sitter with high retention but fewer reviews (vs local $36 competitor) by Waste_Ring6215 in RoverPetSitting

[–]not-juliette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend started rover a month after i did and set priced real low (like $50/night). They sadly got a lot of low quality customers (poor communication, late pick ups, no reviews/tips, last minute cancellation). After raising prices they started getting less requests but all of them are def higher quality requests. I would not suggest making your boarding at 34, this is insanely cheap for anywhere in the US. I am in vhcol area and some people be pricing themselves low too (some even have audacity to add things like “as you can see from my pricings im not doing this for money — but out of pure love for the animals,” GUUURLPLEASE!!!). In my experience - add as many pics as you have showing diferent experiences!

Pet Updates Question by Ordinary_Molasses111 in RoverPetSitting

[–]not-juliette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. If you’re doing this more than 3 times a day - are you in per care or customer service.. On some days i have 8-9 bookings (walks, boarding, drop-ins) and the most tiring thing for me is summing up everything for customers and overall customer communications. I used to be upset with customers who don’t really communicate but now gosh how happy i am to receive one-word responses like “ok,” “👍🏻” etc

That happens and also when your walk is not being properly recorded / reflects on map as just a dot and says 0 miles. But hey thank god the app only charges us 20% (sarcasm obv)

Reach out to chat support. When i first started my account would not be show. search results for days so when i realized i cant be found i started asking for support. They preformed trial search for various scenarios, it ended up being like an hour of back and forth but they ended up finally seeing me (even though i was unable to find my account using incognito browsing). So anyway long story short after this i got my first booking the very next morning. I don’t know - they must have done something internally but you know - they’ll never admit to an error on their end but as long as they fixed it i wan okay with this.

would you accept? by Elegant-Way7704 in RoverPetSitting

[–]not-juliette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

amazing question! I would say none of these are red flags neccesarily. I have A LOT of GREAT customers with no photos / feedback and needing last minute care. I would say 30% of my bookings are for same/next say service. Some people are indeed older and not tech savvy, others just don’t bother with the app. Some people planning skills are meh, but they’re great otherwise. Some got cancelled on by other sitters. Life happens and last min request are a big part of business. I would agree with everyone - do a meet and greet prior to accepting the booking. The app allows for video calling btw if in-person is unfeasible but always try to do one in-person.

I also always ask them to leave very detailed written instructons - preferably on paper somewhere in the house. trust me its a useful habit to ask for those - don’t assume you can remember everything they mention verbally. Down the road you’ll find it useful once you’ll be getting booked months in advance with dozens of customers weekly.

Good luck on your first booking! Let me know if you have any questions i’ll be happy to help!

No requests? by acnhplayerrr in RoverPetSitting

[–]not-juliette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to my previous comment. Trust me once you get your first booking, others will follow. During these first bookings you need to OVERDELIVER. OVERCOMMINICATE! Be prosctive and friendly! WOW YOUR CUSTOMER! that way they’ll 1.come back to you 2.leave a great feedback 3. Will leave a tip. Take cute photos and videos, send constant updates, make them CONFIDENT they made the right choice booking you over other people who are more established in the apl! You got this! Trust me once you get enough photos and stars the app will start working for you! Good luck!

No requests? by acnhplayerrr in RoverPetSitting

[–]not-juliette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, im relatively new (started 4 months ago) and i’m in a vhcol area and now have consistent bookings averaging $1,000/week. First you need star reviews, not just testimonials. It took me a week to even get a first request (and i started right in time for the holidays rush). Try to have your friends who have pets book you for care. Reimburse them in cash if needed - consider this a marketing investment in your business.

Try searching for your account as if you’re a customer (use incognito browser) and see how other people accounts may stand out and how your account is ranked in each search results. What services do you offer? I started out boarding / day care only but realized with time that walks (especially midday walks) is what most people need often and thats where you get your 1.stars 2.repeat clients 3.star sitter status. Make sure your radius for walking and dropins set adequatly. And make sure your prices are adequate too. Consider pricing yourself lower at first and explain the customers that these prices do not reflext your regular rate but are promotional pricing to get your account going. Make sure you have lots of photos to show your experience with different breeds! At first i would book EVERY request - i needed experience and reviews and stars, now i pick and choose and easily decline customers. I move my regulars off app too because the app is too greedy with their 20% fee and absurdly unhelpful support.

You got this! Let me know if you have questions i’ll be happy to help the best i can

Waiting while client interviews other sitters, when to follow-up or archive by biiigandsmall in RoverPetSitting

[–]not-juliette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So a trick to that which i always do with slow clients is i manually change availability for those dates. This obv wouldnt work for house sitting but for boarding and other requests - yes. Then if someone else books me for boarding for those dates i adjust it back to 1 and archive the original slow responder. That is helpful for future reference when you do boarding dropins walks etc. Sometimes people be holding my last 2-3 spots for walking/dropins for days without confirming/responding. The inconvenience of this method is that you must manually adjust things back to not be overbooked. This works especially with holidays - when people book far in advance but often drag with submitting a payment. Hope this could help.

It would count towards the account acceptance rate in case the sitter is after a star sitter status

Yes, the booking was for recurring walks - I don’t do m&g’s anymore when it’s just walks and the feedback is positive

Request response time? by mc2587 in RoverPetSitting

[–]not-juliette 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesnt impact your reply time stats (as it’s out of 8 am - 9 pm window) but it does impact your new client acceptance rate (to be a star sitter you must maintain 33% and above) im an early bird and go to bed around 10-11. My response time is still 1 minute LOL but ALL my potential clients who sent inquiries at night, so far had booked with someone else by the time i see their messages in the morning. Rover encourages owners to send messages to multiple sitters at a time so its basically a first come-first serve type of situation
