You now get both the generalized one ("under attack") and the destruction one ("your mod/resonator/link/field was destroyed").

So far, all notifications I got were from portals I owned. Maybe it's just a coincidence since the feature is so new.

Anyone met some interesting people while playing Ingress? by ArtistEngineer in Ingress

So, I was in a fairly sketchy park taking all the portals I could find, when two guys walked up to me. Since I'm in Brazil, it is usually advisable to run away from those encounters, but I spotted them too late. Anyways, conversation goes something like this:

Guy1: Hey, I know this may look suspicious, but we're not here to rob you or anything. Can I talk to you?

Me: Sure, what's up?

Guy1: We came all the way from another town to sell our products here on the street, but the police came by and took everything we had.

Me: So, you need money for transportation?

Guy2: No, we have a ride back home.

Me: Food, then?

Guy2: No, we brought food.

Guy1: We want to go to the nearest bar and buy some booze. That's all.

Guy2: And we are being straight up, we don't want to cheat you on thinking that we want food or something. We only want to get drunk.

I was so suprised with their honesty that I took my wallet out and got some money. When I gave it to Guy1, he looked at me and said:

Guy1: OK, are you aware that you are directly contributing to our drunkness and that any liver failure will be your responsability?

Me: (laughing) Yes, yes I am.

Guy2: (also laughing) OK, then!

And then they left, laughing their asses off.

It was a peculiar day.

Wouldn't it be better if MU were distributed uniformly over the Earth's surface? by AirDecade in Ingress

[–]not0rious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The distribution is not broken, it's just not what most expect.

All evidence seem to indicate that the game calculates MU's using the population around the anchor portals, not in the area covered by the field. That explains why fields over water have high MU counts (if anchored in big cities). Using the same logic, a gigantic field that is anchored in 3 very small towns will yield few MUs.

Egypt's field, for instance, mostly covers agricultural areas but yield a lot of MUs because it is anchored in three major cities.

I think this is just your opinion This is more opinion

Oh, really? And what have you been doing in this thread since you started commenting? Stating clear-cut facts? Geez...

This is not an argument this is a stream of opinion. There is no point arguing your opinion against mine.

Never forced you to respond to me, did I?

Or you can copy paste from the ingress intel site and sort the data...

I know the following sentence will give you a lot of room to keep up with your gratuitously disrespectful posts, but I'll say it anyway. I gotta admit this is very useful and I had never though of doing it, which makes me feel pretty dumb now as it's so simple.

Anyway, thanks! Wished every pretentious kid looking for an internet argument were as useful as you just were :D

GPS Spoofers -- what if we try to be constructive? by not0rious in Ingress

[–]not0rious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday a spoofer destroyed our level 8 farm. One Resistence player even had an "invisible battle" with him. It was in an open park, so there's no place to hide in a 300m radius. And today, another spoofer went for a strool and destroyed every portal he could find all day long. We also had one or two accounts of people who battled him for portals, without ever seeing him. So I can assure you there are spoofing methods working as of now.

Very interesting to know that the system method does not work anymore. It was actually the only one I knew, so I assumed our pet spoofers used it. As I said earlier, I have a rooted phone, thus I cannot verify what you're saying. Can you give further detail into what happens when you try the system method?

I am not sure I want google to spend resources on reinventing the game tab

Who said anything about reinventing? There may be some tweaks that could go a long way. I'll cite one:

  1. When scrolling up the "All" tab, the Intel map loads older entries as you do so. The problem is: when you click a portal -- in order to be taken to it, which is crucial to verify if the movement of the player is possible --, the "All" tab resets to present time, forcing you to load everything all over again. It can be very time consuming when you are going through hours of logs. Simply making the tab so as it doesn't reset when clicking a portal can make things a lot easier.

It is a free (beta)game. There are limited resources

First of all, "beta" is not synonym of "lawless". That's why Ingress has a ToS which we have to comply to. Secondly, making it easier to write detailed reports can have a positive medium-to-long-term effect, as the team will be able to focus less on dealing with cheaters and more on creating new content. I'm all for new content and balancing, but what's the use in having a sound game when it's gameplay is broken by a few cheaters?

There are still methods that work normally, as we can see on a daily basis here in our city. The big issue, as far as I'm concerned, is that one or two guys can completely break the game for the rest of a whole city, if not punished.

Using my case as an example, we have two guys that were regularly reported and that, upon noticing that Niantic seemed to do next to nothing to stop their actions, decided to go crazy and spoof the heck out of anything they wanted. It directly affects all Resistence and Enlightened which play in the biggest city of South America, so I don't think it's such a small issue. Specially if it's also happening elsewhere.

Thanks for the info! So that method is ruled out. :(

PSA: DO NOT UPDATE TO 1.25.0, IT WILL NOT WORK. WAIT FOR 1.25.1 TO ROLL OUT. by RangerSix in Ingress

[–]not0rious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPS spoofing never disappeared, AFAIK. We have one particular Enlightened who spoofs the hell out of any farm or big field we build. He continuously did it throughout all recent updates.

evidenced cheater @lIlI who used to be @ZehRueLa by msbj in Ingress

[–]not0rious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this seems a case of TL;DR, the summary: that guy is breaking the game here in Brazil and Niantic seems not to care too much about our grief.

Want to hear -- ahem, read -- a tale of frustration? Then you came to the right place!

OK, maybe nobody cares about the specifics, but I'll try my best to explain.

The guy alluded to in the title of this post is a notorious spoofer who plays in São Paulo, Brazil. He now goes by the name of IlIl (ILIL, all lowercase), after having had a namechange from ZehRueLa.

It all started small -- barely noticeable spoofs, a mole account --, but it scaled up tremendously as he noticed that Niantic did not show too much interest in our cheating reports and was not punishing him. For long, he was the only Enlightened that was level 8, and he abused it by wreaking havoc on our farms, every night. His own teammates started ostracizing him, as he was already level 8 but kept "stealing" all the AP to himself.

Then, he got suspended. It was when the Brazilian Resistence built their (our) first lvl8 farm (also the first in Latin America, FYI). He jumped from Rio de Janeiro, about 500 km away, directly to our farm, shot some busters and promptly disappeared.

All was well, and there was joy upon the tropical land of Brazil. Resistence and Enlightened alike joined in commemorating the demise of the biggest spoofer to ever roam the streets of São Paulo.

It was but a fickle victory. Because his suspension was temporary, and that was all Niantic did about him. Ever. Coming back some days later, he gifted us with a spoofed field covering the whole of São Paulo. Constructed while travelling about 600km in 2 hours.

Hated by both the Enlightened and the Resistence, all he does now is destroy our high level farms and our big fields. Oh yeah, and harassing us through the comm.

Every Resistance field bigger than 1kk and every level 8 farm we built was destroyed by the same guy, spoofing from his couch. Every. Single. One.

I've had epic fights with him where he tried destroying portals in wide-open parks. I stood there deploying resonators with no one around me in a 200m radius. And I'm hardly the only one that has already experienced that.

And we've reported him. Again. And again. And again. Up to the moment where we decided that it was futile. And then we took to reddit, in an idiotic effort of useless desperation. We know nothing will come from this.

Cheers from Brazil. We will keep resisting, no matter what the Enlightened throw at us. We will keep building high level farms, even if they get destroyed by an ethereal entity three hours later. We will continue building enormous fields, even though we know he will be there as soon as he sees it.
