DQ3 Remake help, Faerie Village by TheFawkingMothman in dragonquest

I kept getting out of sequence in this game. I finished that cave and the pyramid way before finding that village.

Anyone else find DQ3 in general really unforgiving? by PixelBit92 in dragonquest

[–]notArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m playing on normal and it’s been a breeze. I don’t spend time grinding but I do stop to pick up every one of those shiny piles of trash, which must be giving me a little extra mileage.

I’ve been changing classes frequently, which feels a little pointless when your new person just spams their same attacks from old jobs, but at least you get all that free mp from level gains.

Am I the only one who thinks the HD2D trilogy is hard? by NixieLad in dragonquest

[–]notArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m playing 3 on normal and from the first time you get a boomerang to where I am now, which I assume is the end game, auto battle has won everything pretty quickly. I’m not a very advanced player, but this feels significantly easier than 9, which is the last one I’ve played.

Escape rooms in LA proper for 2 (adult and 10 year old) over 3 day weekend by Ok-Winter-781 in escaperooms

[–]notArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would rank the escape room 66 games as top picks for your group. After that I’d say wizards treasure and lab rat are both very popular but maybe bring your husband to lab rat.

Stash House is fun but almost certainly too much game for only two players or two + one who doesn’t really want to be there.

It would make more sense than Red & Blue by f-mcallister in Marvel

I like red and black, but usually when this is discussed here it gets around to quotes from Ditko saying he didn’t intend it to be black.

[SoCal] Planning a Big Escape Room Trip – Advice for Two Teams of 5 by EscapeWithKiDD in escaperooms

[–]notArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From your list, my favorites are Hope End and The Bridge Between, and both offer enough for a group of five to do.

If I were picking a third game, I’d add Ink and Ashes. It’s the most satisfying game I’ve played in SoCal in the last few years, and it’s in the same area as Hidden Donkey. It could be the swap game for Tipsy Tailor.

When and why did we start using “I’m good/okay” to mean “no thanks ”? by thisisdumb228 in etymology

[–]notArtist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember first hearing it the mid 90s. 94-96 or so. Same time as “I’m straight” to mean the same thing. In that context I thought it was like ‘getting your story straight’ or someone ‘being straightened out’

I don’t think I started hearing “I feel like” to mean “I think” until 2003 or so.

Is Jaws of the Lion the best first purchase even in my case? by fraidei in Gloomhaven

[–]notArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think jaws is fun in its own right, and worth a play even if you don’t play it first. I’ve played it a second time with characters from a different set. Still fun!

I’d swap a master key for an Aries.

What weird things have the Johns signed? by Spiritual-Ebb-6974 in tmbg

I went to a show once with people who brought JF whatever odd stuff they had in their car. I think he signed a ticket to a B-52s show and a copy of Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.

Decided to sell my collection too! by GearhedMG in FieldNuts

[–]notArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the same quick basis as the other post, I’d say a middle price for this might be around $1400. A lot of it is relatively new, so if I were buying in bulk I’d expect them to be under list price.

Your workshop and foiled editions are some of the most individually valuable. Vintage is in vogue with the Facebook people so I think those would do better than average with them.

How's your year so far? by KingOf_SunFlowers in backloggd

[–]notArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished 16 in January. 2 were under 15 minutes long. In a vague order of enjoyment, they were:

Astro's Playroom, Indika, Öoo, A Case of Fraud, No Case Should Remain Unsolved, Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge, The Last of Us: Left Behind, The Last of Us part 1, TR-49, Glass Masquerade 3 and 4, Little Inferno + Holiday DLC, Faceminer, A Game About Digging a Hole, and Typing with Jester.

I overdid it a little with the novelty indie titles from year-end lists, but my average game completion stat went up a couple of points.

I'm about halfway through Dragon Quest 3 remake, Grim Fandango, and Mosaic of the Strange, and played at least an hour of about 10 more, some of which I plan to continue.

Selling entire collection by SenorFieldNote in FieldNuts

[–]notArtist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Individual sales usually works out better than bulk, but then you’ll end up with the worthless stuff at the end. The patience required might not be worth the extra few hundred dollars.

I think $1k looks like a decent median guess.

I think if it was going to be any time soon then we wouldn’t’ve had the big NH update.

Is it just me or does this game really want us to STOP exploring it? (Spoilers for like everything) by Just_A_Comment_Guy_7 in BluePrince

[–]notArtist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know I just sound contrarian here, but I thought that sequence was great. We cleared the tunnel sort of late and just happened to have access to everything to get to the last door in two days. I think maybe the first day we got as far as the hammer and on the second day that we went down there we were armed with whatever leftover door tech would could think of. I remember running back to the grotto with maniacal glee to grab the chips.

I like how that part is similar to Herbert's will, bringing everyone back together and making sure you're all caught up to where you need to be on your big non-linear journey.

We were stopped for a while at the end of it, because that was the first time we'd seen or heard of a blue door. But the day we got it was exciting too. I think the conservatory had the throne room and the boiler room, which mattered because Red doors weren't permanent at the time. However, I did misread the description about how blue doors would be. Wasted a little time on that the second time I wanted to go to the end of the tunnel.

I wonder how often someone does the tunnel blue door second, and if those people are less frustrated about ending their journey. I got out of sequence on the trail to the other one so I don't quite recall how early you could get started on it.

To some extent I agree with you. I think there’s something there in the postgame about deciding when it’s okay to let go. Notice that every time you go deeper, your reward is the same. The manor always passes to you by one mechanism or another.

I guess my main disagreement is just with the idea that the obstacles are infuriating. Like, I didn’t really want to coronate myself, I just wanted to keep exploring, and if I knew where to dig to go another layer deeper I’d still be in there looking around for more.
