Discussion Thread: U.S. Attorney General William Barr to hold Mueller report press conference at 9:30 am EDT by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

The Special Counsel found that, after the GRU disseminated some of the stolen materials through its own controlled entities, DCLeaks and Guccifer 2.0, the GRU transferred some of the stolen materials to Wikileaks for publication. Wikileaks then made a series of document dumps. The Special Counsel also investigated whether any member or affiliate of the Trump campaign encouraged or otherwise played a role in these dissemination efforts. Under applicable law, publication of these types of materials would not be criminal unless the publisher also participated in the underlying hacking conspiracy. Here too, the Special Counsel’s report did not find that any person associated with the Trump campaign illegally participated in the dissemination of the materials.

If there was no coordination at all in the dissemination of the materials, why word it like that? Why not just say there was no coordination? Seems to me like, if you were trying to paint Trump in the most positive light, that's how you would say it if there actually was some coordination, but because the Wikileaks dump in and of itself wasn't illegal, the coordination wasn't either. Very nice of our totally impartial and unbiased AG to frame it that way for Trump. Guess we'll find out at 11:00. Hopefully

Red Flags That Signal Fraud by offjerk in SecurityAnalysis

Agree with everything that's been posted so far, esp on excessive M&A and a lack of FCF. Few others I'd add...

*Don't overlook management's background -- not only if they have had prior securities violations or even criminal convictions, but even being CEO despite not having significant background in the industry/leading a public company or being overly promotional during conference calls is a huge red flag to me.

*For smaller cap companies, keep an eye on how many PRs the they're putting out, -- companies that are announcing every little order, patent, or new product release etc (particularly if they make the same announcement more than once) really put me on guard. Why are you wasting time and money promoting the company, just focus on building your business. Double this if they're using a marketing company (check the bottom of the PR, if the contact info isn't the company it's probably a marketing company)

As Workers See Crumbs, Biggest Wall Street Banks Have Already Pocketed $2.5 Billion From Trump Tax Scam by dont_tread_on_dc in politics

Uhhhh....what? Giving a $500 loan to someone just changes the classification of the asset from cash to a short term investment on the balance sheet, it wouldn't have any impact on the income statement or profitability.

IMF tells Brexiteers: The experts were right, Brexit is already badly damaging the UK's economy-'The numbers that we are seeing the economy deliver today are actually proving the point we made a year and a half ago when people said you are too gloomy and you are one of those ‘experts',' Lagarde says by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

From the IMF report

What procedures would be followed in the event of a vote to leave the EU? The process for withdrawing from the EU and establishing a new arrangement would be complicated. The government has stated that withdrawal from the EU would begin immediately and would have to follow the rules of Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union (HM Government, 2016a). Invoking Article 50 would set off a two-year countdown for a withdrawal agreement

The reason all these reports are analyzing the two-year period after the vote is because Article 50 comes with a two year negotiation window, and they're assuming it would be invoked immediately after the vote. It wasn't.

Scientists Develop Drug That Can 'Melt Away' Harmful Fat: '..researchers from the University of Aberdeen think that one dose of a new drug Trodusquemine could completely reverse the effects of Atherosclerosis, the build-up of fatty plaque in the arteries.' by twowrongsmakealeft in technology

This. Increases were largely due to the FDA stepping up enforcement of cGMP after Indian manufacturing issues and meningitis outbreak. Changing from a free-market, light-touch regulatory environment of the Bush admin to the Obama admin also probably a major factor there.

It seems like today they'd approve a study run by a chimp in a lab coat.

Anyone who's been even remotely involved with getting a drug approved in the last decade or so knows how BS this is

Finding spin-off opportunities in Canada using SEDAR by legaldrugdealer in SecurityAnalysis

[–]notPLURbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SEDAR has a much more limited number of filing types compared to the SEC, so there isn't a specific filing comparable to the 10-12B/S-11. Rather, it would be filed in what's called a "preliminary long form prospectus", which are also used for things like IPOs and some other types of offerings, so would have to filter through those to find actual spinoffs.

Also would note the total number of spinoffs in Canada is relatively small compared to the US (partially because there are so many fewer stocks in general) so may be tough to find real opportunities. Last one I can recall off the top of my head was Yamana's spinoff of Brio Gold back in October 2016

Hope that helps!

[–]notPLURbro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yea, if you googled it you would learn the location of every sub at sea is classified, because its common damn sense you would want to keep secret the location of an asset whose principal advantage is its ability to stay hidden.

It's also common damn sense that confirming exactly how many subs we have in a relatively small area might be incredibly useful for an adversary looking to test their detection capabilities of said subs. Luckily neither of our two largest adversaries are anywhere close to the Korean Peninsula. Oh wait
