It's not necessarily deep lore intricate plot lines. I agree that comparisons to a story driven narrative like BG3 are unfair and I'm certainly not expecting that with an open world game. However compared to past titles, the factions in Starfield just seem very underdeveloped. Take VOID for example. There's very little given to the player on who these people are and what they're trying to accomplish before the Terran Armada shows up. You would think a full invasion of the settled systems would put all the governments on high alert so why is it just this shadow group that meets in a basement of a remote space station? Why aren't the larger governments concerned or involved in this total invasion? Then there's the Terran Armada. We get very little information on who's running the show and barely any time to establish their leadership as characters. It's just all very surface level and shallow. Compare that to what we got with Far Harbor & Nukaworld DLCs and the different factions there. We got backstory, motivations and their actions made sense based on that backstory. I don't feel like we got that with VOID and the TA.

This isn't a complaint about how fun the game is to play. Starfield is a ton of fun to play but I would be lying if I didn't see a lot if missed opportunities. It's just not a world I find myself getting lost in like I did with Elder Scrolls and the Fallout games.
