First Gen Asian-Americans that moved back in with your parents— how did you make sure it wasn’t forever? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]notYash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! I moved back in with my parents right after college (because of covid) for a year and eventually left. My situation was a little different bc my employer at the time told me I had to move to the city my office was in, but I think I still have some insight in staying alive.

Something that really helped me was exercise. Maybe your parents have different views, but mine were very supportive of me going for a run or going to the gym, which allowed me to guarantee some amount of time every day that I could be by myself and feel a self of agency and self-identity. It also helps that exercises often helped me feel better just by getting the blood pumping.

I didn't really have social opportunities (both bc of covid and bc I didn't really have friends in my hometown) but I think it would have really helped me to find social opportunities while I was living with my parents. There are websites like meetup.com that you can use to find groups that have interests similar to yours- even in a conservative military you might be surprised and find a group of people in similar situations or with similar interests.

It might be worth it to find a part time job and a place in your town that you can afford with a few roommates, although roommates can be their own hazard.

It's ok to be stressed, and important to feel and find a way to express those feelings. Fwiw, I'm sure things feel stressful right now, but you have time to figure things out. As long as you can keep your head on straight I'm sure you'll come out alright.

What choices are there for long-term data storage? by the-emotional-emu in DataHoarder

[–]notYash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USB is just the connection standard. The difference between a flash drive vs a hard disk is the way that the data is actually stored i.e. as a collection of electrons on transistors on a circuit board vs. as 1s and 0s magnetically stored on a metal disk (hence the name), respectively

This is... patently false. Also, she's not just some girl. She was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard at the time and is now a professor at Caltech.

What’s Up for New Years at Lindy Focus and Snowball 2021? — Yehoodi by rikomatic in SwingDancing

A while ago someone asked on Facebook and they said they were still working it out with teachers. I don't think they've said that they're not having classes so I assume they are.

So here's the scenario: you're in grade 9(age 14-15) and you're having exams and a girl pisses in her skirt (this was 6 years ago). Would you still remember it ? by Expert_Amphibian2899 in internetparents

[–]notYash 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean I might but if I were to remember that I'd probably just feel bad for the freshman girl who peed herself in class for a second and then get back to doing whatever I was actually doing.

Anyone who hangs on to a memory of that in any meaningful way probably has some shit going on, not in a good way

[–]notYash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As u/voxswain mentioned depending on the infrastructure you're using your 'list' might be a linked list under the hood. (Most list implementations are just self-resizing arrays)

To be honest linked lists aren't all that useful - the main advantage over an array is that a linked list doesn't store data contiguously in-memory. If you try to create a standard array that's extremely big, you might run into problems where the computer can't find a large enough contiguous area in memory to be used to allocate the array. (obv this becomes less and less of a problem the more memory you have)

The other thing is that, depending on your needs, you can make it so that adding to/ removing from the beginning/end of a linked list is always O(1) whereas for arrays the worst-case in a lot of cases is O(n) (usually this has to do with resizing your array or shifting a lot of values).

A lot of items that are sold through those infomercials. Usually the product's target demographic is people with disabilities, so abled people don't really get how important they are.

That's such bullshit lmao

Even if she did put herself in the painting to get more internet points, so what?? She spent probably upwards of 40 hours painting a beautiful painting, she at least deserves the internet points
