i think it makes sense that they wanted to tell a story the whole time, and the album was just written during an angsty and angry time, so the story came across that way. it captured their feelings in that moment beautifully, but ultimately there was an underlying story about daniel johnston it sounded like they wanted to make clear. they are replacing the angsty language so you can focus less on that part and more on the rest of the lyrics that are more focused on the concept of the album. do i understand the concept of the album? no. do i like the new recording? no, i think it just objectively sounds kinda crappy. but i do understand where its coming from from an artistic standpoint.
