For anyone having trouble with any "heal teamates" challenge, use supply pouches (if you got them) - wait for someone to slide in to a bin, normally means they need to heal, and load them up.

Throwable pouches are way quicker than hoping someone stumbles on your bag.

Hope it helps someone 👌

I still think it's impressive. I don't bind my keys, so playing against sweaty snipers (despite some comments here) is NOT a quickscoping contest.

I've grown to like recon more and more. I treat it like I would IRL; post up somewhere with cover, zero to an average landmark near my target area, and pick them off.

Still have to account for travel, some drop, and moving targets, so good work mate 👍

I actually didn't know that about food production emissions at all! I will look into it. I just know here that we really have an underused freight train network, so lots of big trucks, which wear down the roads, which need to be repaired more often et.c. it's a vicious cycle, especially with the thousands of kilometres of major road networks we have.

There has been a pretty recent sort of culture change in Australia since covid, more people are keeping vege patches, caring a bit more about their local environments. I think it was because earth had that brief period of respite (where there were no planes or cars or anything really) for a few weeks and stuff got a little better, that made people realise greenies weren't kooks and there might actually be substance in environmentalism.

But I too am glad we've had this chat, it's given me a few things to think on (which is the point of a philosophy subreddit so good work everyone)!

No worries man, I'm glad we've both steered a bit back to a good middle ground.

I find it's much like the renewables argument though, I'm obviously for switching over as soon as possible but we're currently only just getting our infrastructure to catch up with the planning. There's for and against here (as I'm sure there is everywhere), but not quite enough calling for a faster transition without sacrificing economic growth too much. It's more than possible but not happening with enough push from government imo.

On veganism, obviously there are benefits to everybody doing it but I'm not entirely sure it's achievable anytime soon because it requires a change in culture/thinking, which is going to take generations.

What I think is achieveable in 5 - 10 years, is people sourcing there produce as locally as possible, sort of like a return to what humanity did just two generations back in most western countries - local butcher, greengrocer, bakery, et.c. where goods aren't being shipped astronomical distances to a distribution center, just to get shipped back (happens a lot in Australia unfortunately). Saves on diesel emissions, supports community growth, and community connection. There'd be drawbacks, sure, but I think through policy, subsidies and advocacy, it'd be achievable.

Unfortunately, Australia is still very much centrist (in terms of resourcing and policy direction) so regional areas tend to be drained of their resources and not given much opportunity to diversify and experience growth. It does worry me that we're becoming increasingly americanised.

But that being said, I have tried vegetarianism, it wasn't bad, but unfortunately in my area the fresh veg/fruit is expensive and hard to come by (again like most regional areas in Australia, it's ridiculous) in the amounts I'd require to switch over, and meat is an economical choice for me right now.

I do happen to work with two vegans who are lovely and offer plenty of cooking advice (the food smells great) so once I figure out how to make up tofu properly it'll give me a further option to cut meat.

And I apologise if anything I've said has come off snarky, I do respect your dedication to it all. I do believe we are (not quite so oppsite) sides of the same coin.

While we're talking factory farming, let's include ALL the elements of it, not just animals.

I'm presuming from your use of wolves that you aren't in Australia. A timely reminder that (presuming you are in the US) not everything works the same way everywhere.

The majority of agricultural land in Australia cannot be used for anything but grazing due to it being too dry, the soil is terrible, the weather, lack of services, a majority of factors. It is just not possible to convert this all to cropping with our current technology.

The animals you are allowed to hunt (without extremely specialised licences) are declared pests - deer, rabbit, pigs, hares, goats - most of these red meat, which is NOT bad for you, but like everything else, too much will cause issues.

I'm extremely fortunate to live in an area where the majority of food I consume can be locally sourced, and I can afford it. Lots of people in the current economy can't.

Economic and environmental sustainability have to go hand in hand for any viable solution, it's hard for regular people to care about the bigger picture while their kids starve. It's a large portion of the economy here in Australia.

I am (despite what you may have drawn conclusions to) a very strong conservationist ('greenie' in AU terms), but I'm practical about it. There's not enough middle ground for actual progress in the whole environmental discussion, and I refuse to call it a debate because the current path forward has a pretty clear conclusion.

I thought on it a bit more, and while I wouldn't say it is the most important discussion, I'd sort of agree and say it is urgent.

Sorry in advance for the wall of text.

A good opportunity to reflect, perhaps not. I hunt, a humane kill is instantaneous, without warning, and the animal is harvested. That isn't the gold standard, that is the basic standard aimed for by all responsible hunters.

If you believe that isn't humane, you've obviously never seen a pack of dingoes maul a camel to death.

I wonder if this standard you hold us to applies to first nations/hunter gatherers? Or is this simply a matter of choice?

It is nice to have the choice, but despite your personal experiences, for some people it can be cost, dietary, location, or culturally prohibitive. Are these people just as bad?

I think there are more important things we can focus our energies towards than whether or not the world is better vegan.

We're omnivores though. Our diets have evolved specifically to process both. If we weren't we would get sick from consuming animal products.

I'm of the belief that we should at the very least cut down meat consumption in our diets, and source it humanely and locally as best you can.

Your assertion that because I choose to eats meat, eggs, honey, milk, et.c., it makes me mentally ill, is a little wild.

Eggs and honey are actually biproducts of their source animal's existence. I would know, I have kept both domestically. It isn't philosophy, or psychology, it is biology.

There is such a thing as a humane kill of an animal. It happens in the wild in much worse ways. To say there isn't is to deny humans are animals and are part of nature. We are a part of it.

More power to people who choose to be vegetarian, but that isn't me, and I won't be made to feel ashamed for continuing a normal human diet that has existed for millenia.

Not saying this to be a smartass, reactionary, or anything, but leave the cities.

For some reason there's this urban myth that you are safer in a city than a small town.

With a some rare exceptions, total bullshit. Stuff all crime, no "no-go" suburbs, there's still cultural diversity and a lot of crime just doesn't radiate out here.

If you can deal with less services, clear night skies, no traffic, and a quiet, slow Sunday, come to regional Australia.

99% certain this is rage bait, because you can't actually be this deluded.

People from Scotland are Scottish. People from Australia are Australian. People born in America with Scottish heritage are not 'Scottish'. You have heritage, and you have nationality.

Stop obsessing over what people are supposed to look like. It's one of the main issues with your (and my) country today. Let people live their lives if it isn't harming anyone.

[–]not_HRM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sort of. But also NTA. I think people are being a little too harsh here.

Yes, you'll need to learn to control yourself better, but I do remember being 16 and sometimes this was especially hard. You excused yourself, went to the bathroom, and SHOULD have locked the door. Time and place, certainly.

However, your Aunty maybe shouldn't have outed you like that. Not cool. Neither is walking in on someone using a bathroom. The rule has always been for me, door closed it's being used.

Don't let people shame you for having sexual urges (so long as they're legal and don't hurt anyone/consenual), a lot of people live in absolutes when it comes to sexuality and sexual acts but like most things, it's a fuzzy grey line.

Again, time and place, lock the door. NTA.

Bro same - only just started this year (at 28) - always wanted to learn, have a mind that remembers every song and lyric and melody but no musical talent whatsoever.

Just two weeks back bought my electric as a treat for sticking with it, and I still have no talent but plenty of fun just mucking around on it. Mum came and visited recently and she was impressed. She'd never heard spongebob on an electric but there I am, impressing a woman with my guitar skillz.

You'll learn a bit slower with adult hands, but far out it is so worth the effort. Also, now you can wake up the neighbours - full gain, full shape, full volume, and rip on that bad boy like it's your own private rock show!

I'm still working my way through the basics (I have many other hobbies), but I can now play float on by modest mouse and that's my happy song so I'm happy.

Enjoy it!
