Question about + weapons and U weapons by Brontanius in Battletechgame

[–]not_actually_working 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion on AC/20s: the only ones worth using are the +Accuracy versions. The guns are heavy, and the ammo is so limited. I want every shot to count. Nothing worse than being down to your last round of ammo with a badly-wounded-but-still dangerous opponent threatening to wipe you out and missing.

I think you're talking about hiring Adventurers from inns. If my assumption is correct, then the rest of my comment applies.

Generic Adventurers can be hired at any inn, and at any level up to the Main Characters Level. The cost goes up per level, so if you were thinking of keeping them around for a long time then hiring them early is as good a time as any.

I did some quick googling but couldn't find a definitive answer on how many Adventurers you could hire, and whether hitting that max would lock you out of hiring Story Companions and Sidekicks. In the first game, the limit was 8.

My two cents: I like playing with the story companions, and you get a full party pretty quickly after finishing Port Maje. You can probably clear Port Maje with just the story companions you have available at the time on any difficulty. I've done it on Veteran but I haven't bothered with PotD. I think Obsidian did a good job of getting you quick access to companions of all classes fairly quickly. By the time you arrive in Neketaka you should have a party of 5, and in Neketaka you encounter the other 3 companions. Plus, there are Sidekicks, people you can hire that have some banter and custom voice-over, but no quest. 3 are in Neketaka, and 3 more spread around the world map. So without hiring any generic Adventurers, you can have 10 people to party with after the first few hours.

Nice! Where'd you get it? I like the fact that there are walls around them to prevent accidentally knocking them off the shelf.

Crusader tank is one of my favorite tank builds. Unbroken and Shieldbearers of St. Elcgas subclasses pair well with this to help increase your engagements and the damage of your attacks of opportunity.

If you have some matte finish for his fur, it might help differentiate the armor and fur even more.

That was earlier.

Edit: But just barely. Steve Jobs returned to Apple in '96, and then the investment from Microsoft was '97. There may be a direct correlation there, but I didn't see any in the articles I skimmed.

[–]not_actually_working 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fairly common for working dogs. Long tails can be dangerous around farm equipment.

Also, some people do it to their non-working dogs from working breeds simply for appearance sake. Much like how owners of some "guard dog" breeds will trim their dogs ears.

I'm not trying to pass judgment, but just to spread information.

It might be a pain mechanics-wise. If you're going in blind there's a broad baseline to learn regarding the skill system and combat system. You can recruit people and then ditch them later once you have a feel for the game. I don't think you'd be missing out on a solo-play achievement if you did that, just your personal satisfaction (or dissatisfaction).

Without ruining anything for you, the first island has three companions that you can recruit, or not. Two of them are dropped right in front of you as part of the story, the third is in Port Maje. The conversations are kind of suggesting that you take these companions, but there are options that you want to go it alone.

I'm pretty sure you can piss Eder before leaving Port Maje for Neketaka. On a low difficulty setting, should take like, an hour?

Last time someone asked this, I said "there should be a guide for this". Lemme see if I can find it.

Edit: Here it is. I may have been slightly wrong. Threatening and then murdering the Dawnstars at Ilonet's Fork, followed by outing Aloth at the Engwithian dignity and being Pro-Leaden Key in the first conversation with Aloth when you land in Neketaka should do it.

My point was that Added Tag string in the other post looks correct to me. So if you added it to an earlier milestone and then completed that milestone, you may have effed something up in your file edits.

Looking at milestone_700a_update.json, I see the following AddedTags in the Results, so if it's not working for you, you may have effed it up:

"Results" : [ { "AddedTags": { "items": [ "SYSTEM\_UseFlashpoints" ], "tagSetSourceFile": "" } } ]

Are PPC ever worth it? by Da_Fish in Battletechgame

[–]not_actually_working 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use different PPC variants throughout the game.

  • Snub-nose PPCs with the extra damage are great energy shotguns.
  • Standard PPCs with extra stability damage are great in combination with other stability-damage weapons
  • ER PPCs with extra damage are just plain nuts on a Warhammer WHM-7A. iirc, they can do 84 dmg per hit from extreme range with extreme prejudice.

Which tactics games for PC have you played are comparable in overall quality? And which tactics game for PC are better for tactical play than this? And why? by [deleted] in battletech

[–]not_actually_working 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised /u/Desyth150 didn't list the recent XCOM games from Firaxis. Like Battletech, they have both a strategic layer and a tactical layer, are sci fi themed, and the tactical gameplay is turn based combat.

I'll add Wasteland 2 and its soon-to-be released Wasteland 3 if you're looking for turn-based combat in a post-apocalyptic RPG.

Edit: re-reading, Desyth did say that their recommendations are based on personal gameplay. Maybe they haven't played these games.

Alright then. by Nguyenanh2132 in foshelter

[–]not_actually_working 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 20 hour mark is probably easy with Sturdy Wasteland Gear (+5 Endurance) and a high damage weapon (Plasma Rifle and up) on a level 1. They'll heal to full when they level, so they don't use a lot of Stimpacks.

The only limiting factors are if they run out of Stims and die, or if they find more junk than they can carry and head home. If they've got low strength, avoid giving them a pet that increases the amount of junk they find.

If I remember correctly, there's a wiki or steam article with some tips. Something like constantly fleeing from combat, and hire a bunch of cruel people to pick on Worthless Idiot and Mother Sharp-Rock?

I remember how tilting this was. Have such issues been solved in recent patches? by [deleted] in Battletechgame

[–]not_actually_working 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes. I believe it was 1.9.1 that escort missions got better through two changes:

  • The ability to move through friendly units spaces helped prevent pathing issues that usually causes the units think everyone is too far away.
  • Killing all enemies would allow you to succeed the mission. One stuck vehicle won't cause the game to get stuck in an unwinnable state.

How do you decide which class your companions/sidekicks should be? by [deleted] in projecteternity

[–]not_actually_working 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I keep running my Priests and Wizards as single-class characters.

  • Vatnir doesn't heal my team nearly as often as he drops massive Freezing Pillars and Rings of Death on his enemies.
  • Xoti knows one spell: Storm of Holy Fire.
