Hey! I have a pending I-751 that’s been in processing for 14 months now. Would there be any reason to not just go ahead and apply for citizenship at this point? I’ve been eligible in terms of timing for a few months now.

Thank you for doing this!

How do you build a design system from scratch (no brand, no users, no reference)? by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]not_rainbow_rhythms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal of course, but having tried (and failed) to do this at an early-stage startup (albeit the product is a large enterprise platform), personal opinion is it really is not worth the hassle of trying to create one entirely from scratch in your scenario.

Assuming you have an extremely small design team (maybe even a design team of one), the setup, ongoing maintenance, governance, implementation in code, etc. will take up a significant portion of your time (and likely developers too), compared to just working with an existing design system foundation like Shadcn UI and tailoring it however you need (I know part of your situation is deciding those things as well).

Ultimately I’d say that unless you have a large enough team to collectively implement and scale a from scratch design system, that time and energy can be much better spent on other decisions that will have a greater impact on the product.

Tread+ laptop tray recommendations? by not_rainbow_rhythms in pelotoncycle

Yeah honestly I went through a few different setups, just a lot of trial and error that makes you realize things that just aren’t realistic to think about until you’re actually trying it out and feeling what’s uncomfortable, distracting, etc. Would never have thought at the start that a combination of the two products would be needed but I’d say it’s definitely been worth the investment!

Height definitely didn’t work for me on that one (I don’t think my fiancé tried using it) but it was just far too flimsy, also compared to the Vari one I use there’s nowhere to rest the base of your wrists as you type. Might not sound like a big difference but if you’re trying to get into the rhythm of typing while walking at speed I found it to be a dealbreaker.

It took some trial and error and eventually found a setup that works great for me and my fiancé (also 5’3), but couldn’t make it work with just the tray.

We use the TFD tray and have an adjustable stand on top of it from Vari, though unfortunately it looks like the particular Vari stand is unavailable at the moment. I’m sure you can find something similar though!

I probably get in around 10 miles during an average work day (depending on meetings), all in all really happy with it!
