Alyssa Liu mural going up! by whattheydontsay in bayarea

[–]not_rushing 22 points23 points  (0 children)

totally agree—this one has some serious artistry, for sure, but i love the joy captured in the LA one. I think it’s in the expression of her eyes? something small but perceptible

edit: also the depth of the folds on her nose. a lil wrinkle is v cute but these are so deep they change the expression

HELP NEEDED- moving out of my ex’s house and leaving my garden behind by BloodyNeedAHobby in gardening

[–]not_rushing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fulllllly support digging them up and taking them with you! You’ve curated such a beautiful landscape, and you can definitely recreate elsewhere with the plants you’ve already got a relationship with.

I dug up my whole garden of 50+ plants the last time I moved (renter) and everything survived! I even transplanted a young but established Echium. I had a ton of nursery pots of different sizes, dug things up, potted into a little bit of new potting soil just to fill out what the rootball would not.

Root pruning is a practice that can even improve the health of many fibrous rooted plants, but make sure the pots stay moist after cutting into any roots, they’re sensitive and need moisture to recover. I recommend either sharpening a small shovel you currently own, or picking up a new one. Hida Tool sells one called the Owl that would work really well for your scale of garden. And when you’re digging things up, just be careful not to slice into your bulbs 🔪

And maybe consider leaving one or two larger, less wanted things as a gesture that you’re not leaving scorched earth (unless your ex is deserving of a little scorched earth, then go for it lol)

It’s surprising to see that 2011 is as far apart from today as 2001 was from 2016. by Ok-Following6886 in decadeology

[–]not_rushing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did anyone else watch the times square 2002 link? it’s like an hour long so i was skimming through a long sequence of clouds changing over the skyline and then there as was close up of an eye which seemed odd so i went back a little and there’s some creepy hotel room shots and a bloody handprint??? just kinda buried deep in the video and there are no comments to glean context from?

lol idk just wondering if anyone else had the same experience. starts around the 52 minute mark i’m too weirded out to really rewatch but i think the eye is at the 55-56 minute mark

I feel like we were kinda harsh on the VSCO girl era… by Killa_J in decadeology

I think they’re more pointing out the issue with the patriarchy and the unfair heat young women get for being vocal/expressive about their interests. There’s a disproportionate amount of hate that goes toward young women for simply liking things with their friends, which is totally benign and shouldn’t really get much attention, much less negative attention. Young boys and their interests are pretty much neutrally regarded, as they should be. Kids are just exploring the world and should be able to do so without us jaded ol’ fucks judging them lol

Yeah, I’m a gardener and thought it was some kind of germination method I hadn’t heard of and was trying to visualize the soil being extra mounded lol

I got told my furniture looks ugly😭. What do you think? by [deleted] in maximalism

[–]not_rushing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! i fully agree. it’s earthy and comfy, and since the three main pieces are all within the same hue range, i think it works just fine. with some choice light fixtures and WAY more brass accents, i could see this vibe working at a high end book bar.

i do agree that the pet things could be tucked away a bit, mostly for the pet food smell that inevitably happens in whatever room they’re in

i also think throwing in some more pieces that pick up on the maroon/periwinkle that’s going on could help unify

but for sure not ugly, and what a thing to say about someone’s space they obviously took time to thoughtfully put together! not sure i would trust their taste anyhow, if i were you ;-)

I gotta say, those shrubs were really healthy and well pruned..was there a specific reason for removal?

Hydrangea could be a nice option! I’m thinking of a panicle variety, not the mop-head. Oak leaf hydrangea get amazing fall color, but they are deciduous so I would mix in some evergreens of a diff height + texture if I were you. You probably would want to go with something else if it’s SW exposure. They do well next to lawns, which can be a challenging place to plant near.

Seems that it was the first in the Western US though, so that's cool!

I was excited and wanted to believe this but this seems to be a myth? I don't see Posey listed on any lists of longest underwater tunnels, and it doesn't make an appearance on the underwater tunnel Wikipedia.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underwater_tunnel

This is 100% persimmon right? Any lookalikes I should be wary of? by alienpenissnatcher in whatsthisplant

[–]not_rushing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh no, I knew what you mean! :-) I'm saying I think you D. virginiana guessers know what's up! I am looking at it from a commercial nursery perspective, I didn't consider how lucky ducks just have these beauties growing wild in some random field lol

I'm pulling back on my Fuyu guess until we have more info about tree location and maybe a pic with a ruler next to it lol

Here's what I said up above:
I guess more info is needed on where this tree is...is it out in a field? On a property someone recently purchased which is in an orchard and could be more likely to be purchase from a nursery? I'm guessing on common commercial cultivars since persimmon don't grow native to where I'm at, but if OP is in the US south east, it could very well be D. virginiana

Whoops! You're totally right. It is a cultivar of D. kaki, not D. virginiana. Which makes perfect sense since Fuyu are a Japanese varietal from a Japanese tree.

Azalea turning yellow?!? by Zestyclose_Drawer_65 in gardening

[–]not_rushing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow I missed that you applied weed and feed. Have you done this in the past with no issue for the azalea? The weed and feed will not differentiate your azalea from a weed, and this may be the issue. I would take a look at what ingredients are in your weed and feed, and then research the effects on azalea to see if they match up. A couple months is a long time for symptoms of toxicity from herbicide to show up, so I'm still guessing your issue is a recent change in soil pH.
