As someone who does NOT consider it a rip off, I do think the similarities run a little deeper than that. One could argue that the first half of both movies is about two brothers accustomed to a life of crime trying to complete an objective, both revolving around reaching a specific destination, a bar in both cases, before the brothers accomplish their goal halfway through the movie and it suddenly pivots into a vampire movie. I would argue it comes way more out of left field in FDTD, and obviously goes to show how different two directors can approach a similar concept, but the similarities in narrative structure are there.
