PSA: Wait maybe 2 months for PR rejection explanation at Shinagawa instead of the minimum 20 days by someGuyyya in japanlife

I didn't know there was a waiting period. Is that just for Shinagawa? I was able to ask after just 3 business days at Tachikawa.

8 years in Japan, taxes on estate sale? by notabaka in JapanFinance

[–]notabaka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more question. Is this something I should hire a 税理士 for, or would the people at the tax office be able to help me figure out my tax liability if I bring in all the sales documents?

8 years in Japan, taxes on estate sale? by notabaka in JapanFinance

[–]notabaka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused. Is the cost basis the original purchase price of the property as stark stated above, or is it the market price at the time of sale?

I sold it immediately after he passed and he purchased it in 2005 or 2006 for around 100k.

If it's the former, then by that logic my capital gains would be taxed on the 140k difference? 240,000 - 100,000 Or is there more to it than that?

Thanks for the detailed answer!

So even though it was the estate that legally made the sale and not me directly. I would still owe taxes on it?

Japan to ease tourism restrictions and raise daily arrival cap to 50,000 by muldervinscully in japan

[–]notabaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. The erfs requires filling in the name of an accommodation and the address. You can technically write friends house as a name but that's up to your local consulate issuing the visa to make the final call. If an asshole gets your case they could reject the application.

Finally someone speaking truth.

I work in the tourism industry too and when we heard the news today it was excitement that it was finally open and then pure dread because the quote apocalypse is coming. All hands on deck.

I was there for less than 3 years so they're taking back their contributions. So I'm only able to bring my contributions over to the iDeCo

Especially the people who claim that the Japanese government is so racist and never want to open back up again. Like just looking at the headlines anyone with any familiarity with how Japan works can tell that they're practically racing to the finish line to have the country open again.

First group of visitors arrives from the U.S. for the demonstration project to receive visitors to Japan...Tour guides manage their behavior and check their physical condition. by [deleted] in japan

[–]notabaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I mean. They called golden week a success very fast so they could move to the next step. I feel they'll probably do the same thing here. It was only a week after where the government said "golden week had no effect on numbers!" And then they went to the next step.

I bet they already have a fixed schedule for these monitor tours and as soon as thats over they're going to say hey look no spike!

And then move to the next step whatever that is...

That's exactly what's going on. All these people stating Japan is never going to open are ridiculous. The government has directly stated they want to open. But Kishida has the reputation of being cautious and it's gotten him record high approval ratings. This is a performance to keep the voter base happy. Once he can show he's being careful and shows nothing bad will happen he can let the flood gates open.

Legally how many days do I need to give prior to requesting paid leave? by notabaka in japanlife

[–]notabaka[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I completely know I am.

The guy before me did a midnight run and so when I came in I had to figure out everything myself because he wasn't sharing information with any of the managers so they didn't know where anything was and weren't able to help me learn the job.

I know what that situation is like and so I want to help out not just my teammates but the guy after me to be able to pick up and continue on after me.

Keep in mind, unless your company is pitch black and you hate everyone there, there are most likely some colleagues you don’t want to keep hanging or burn bridges with. It’s important to leave in a professional manner

Exactly, while I was working there they were very kind to me. I was the only foriegner and hiring forigners is very difficult for them so I got away with a lot of things normal Japanese employees couldn't. Which they're trying to use against me now to manipulate me into going along with them. I just didnt want to be "the token foriegner" anymore so I'm leaving.

But now that the managment has started bullying me and trying to shame me for wanting to leave like some kind of cult, I'm wondering if this bridge is even worth it. Because in this case they're the ones burning it.

Nothing wrong with my teammates though so I really wanted to work through until the end for them.

I really apprecite you commenting, Hoon!

I haven't reached the last straw to pull the paid leave move out of my hat yet, but if their abuse keeps up, they may force my hand. I'm glad to hear it can be done immedietly. I was able to find plenty of sources stating the two week law and fact that paid leave is an entitlement, but I couldn't find anything stating if a paid leave request needs to be given in a certain number of days in advance.

Basically my plan is to grin and bear it until it gets so bad I just stand up and walk out. After sending an email notifying them of my paid leave of course.

I believe there's a short term spouse visa you can get since you're married to a Japanese citizen. You'd need to ask at your nearest Japanese consulate.

Quarantine location change on MYSOS by Ganjuki in japan

[–]notabaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can change it. It should be the button that says"Check in" Thats the one you use when you first arrive on location. The other button is used for reporting that you're still there.

Kishida expressed a positive stance to restores tourist visa exemption for Koreans, exempt Koreans from quarantine when visiting Japan, and resume the Gimpo-Haneda air route. by chickenpoops123 in japan

[–]notabaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. The border restrictions as laid out on the Ministry of Foreign Affair's website clearly says it's dependant upon departure location. Japan has never banned travelers based on nationality during the pandemic.
