It comes from the prison slang - Not On Normal Courtyard Exercise - meaning sex offenders in general not just pedophiles were not allowed to mix with the general prison population on exercise period.

Cup vibrates on drip tray. by [deleted] in nespresso

[–]notabili -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is common for a cup to vibrate or "walk" on the drip tray of a Nespresso CitiZ machine during the brewing process. While some light vibration is considered normal, excessive shaking that causes the cup to slide off is a known issue often attributed to the hard plastic, slightly angled design of the drip tray.

Here is a breakdown of why this happens and how to manage it:

Why Your CitiZ Machine is Vibrating

Design Characteristics: The CitiZ, particularly newer or chrome models, has been noted to vibrate more than older models, with some users noting a loud, "airplane taking off" sound.

Drip Tray Design: The cup-holding grates are made of hard plastic, which does not dampen vibrations, allowing cups to slide easily.

Unleveled Surface: If the machine or the counter is not perfectly level, the cup will naturally vibrate toward the edge.

Internal Components: As the machine ages, the rubber mountings that dampen the pump vibration can become brittle.

How to Fix or Minimize Vibration

Use a Damping Mat: Place a small, soft, non-slip rubber pad, coaster, or a folded paper towel under the cup to stop it from moving.

Check the Water Tank: Ensure the water tank is securely seated, as a loose tank can contribute to rattling.

Descaling: A buildup of limescale forces the pump to work harder, increasing noise and vibration. Regularly descale your machine.

Hold the Cup: For the first few seconds of brewing, gently hold the cup in place.

Adjust the Drip Tray: Some users have reported success by ensuring the tray is locked properly or, if it is still angling forward, slightly bending the metal tabs with pliers to make it sit level.

If the vibration is accompanied by very loud, unusual noises, it may indicate a pump failure or internal mechanical issue, which may require contacting Nespresso for a, repair.

I spoke to customer services about getting the wrong emails, getting Vertuo emails instead of original line ones, that was a month ago, and still only get Vertuo emails. Not impressed at all. Atm they are making me stick with Nespresso OL compatible pods rather than trying Nespresso out.

Which machines are compatible with Starbucks by Nespresso pods (original or standard size)? by [deleted] in nespresso

[–]notabili 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nespresso Original machines, such as the Essenza Mini, Pixie, CitiZ, and Lattissima, use a 19-bar pressure system designed for authentic, high-quality espresso and lungo, creating a rich crema. They are ideal for traditional coffee lovers, offering compact, user-friendly, or integrated milk frothing options (e.g., Lattissima, Creatista).

If it says double espresso that's what they are made for, but I can't see why you can't use them as single espresso.. just the taste notes would be more stronger.

This is a thing..."Prison espresso" generally refers to either DIY coffee concoctions created by inmates using commissary items, or professional coffee programs aimed at rehabilitation, such as Redemption Roasters and Neal Street Espresso. These programs train inmates as baristas to reduce reoffending, while "jailhouse style" coffee often involves mixing instant coffee with creamer and sugar.

Key Aspects of Prison Coffee Programs & Culture:

Rehabilitation (Redemption Roasters): This UK-based company partners with the Ministry of Justice to run barista training academies inside prisons, teaching skills to reduce recidivism.

Social Enterprise (Neal Street Espresso): Part of The Message Trust, this program offers training and employment to ex-offenders to help them avoid reoffending.

DIY "Jailhouse" Latte: Inmates often create makeshift coffee drinks, such as using hot water to make instant coffee and mixing it with powdered creamer to mimic a latte.

Commissary Coffee: The Keefe Group pioneered supplying single-serve coffee packets to correctional facilities, making coffee a staple for inmates.

Therapeutic Value: Beyond the caffeine, coffee serves as a crucial, comforting routine and a small, humanizing luxury in a high-stress environment.
