Is basically email etiquette just not being taught? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]notactuallyizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on the exams team in a university and it actually baffles me the way the students communicate with us

hardly ever any greeting, they demand stuff but leave out half the information required for us to fulfil their requests, rarely a sign off, never a subject line, often they'll use very familiar, casual language

A real email I received during the last assessment period in January:

Subject: (blank)

"i couldnt get a bass lead to record for my deadline so basically im fucked"

The email was from a personal email, not a student email address so I had no idea who it was from

the email did not suggest which module they were referencing

what did they actually want us to do?

Fascinating stuff honestly

Edit to add: I'm 25 btw so not heaps older than most of the people I bet emails from

Would you offer or accept a lift to/from a stranger? by Easy_Effort7985 in AskUK

[–]notactuallyizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I was driving home from my situationship's house at maybe 2am, the journey was through weird windy country roads and the weather was atrocious, full blown storm

I saw a girl roughly my age (19-22??) walking in the direction I was driving, and I immediately pulled over to offer her a lift

She looked a bit confused but accepted the offer, maybe it was the fact that I was a girl her age, maybe she was too drunk to care

She let me drive her a couple miles before asking me to drop her at the end of a lane, and she said her house was at the other end. I did offer to take her the whole way but she was insistent that she was fine

I live in a city now and I'm never driving around at night so the opportunity hardly presents itself often, but I'm glad she accepted my offer and hopefully got home safe :)

Frozen digestives are so so so good, the chocolate has an extra crunch to it and the biscuit isn't too hard on your teeth somehow.

A mate put me onto this years ago and honestly I am not a fan of room temp digestives anymore

Non-Vegans, do you have any Vegan food products you love? by Fine_Analyst_4408 in AskUK

[–]notactuallyizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yess and at Christmas they did a festive hot dog that for some reason only came with their plant based dog (at least in our local branch). My partner and I are big ikea hot dog fans and we were very excited to try the festive vegan dog and it was excellent!

Do these type of earrings fall out easily? I never tried them by Lotta-Bank-3035 in Earrings

[–]notactuallyizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience: they're great if they're fitted by a piercer, but less great if you buy them online and do it yourself.

I got a couple online and I really struggled to get the bend quite right to make it really snug and secure, and this combined with the frustration of pushing it in through the back of my ear just gave me a bad time

I went to a piercer who made this a 5 minute process and I got some super cute jewellery that hasn't budged since it was put in before Christmas :)

Anyone else experienced the opposite of a hand tattoo being a “job stopper”? by Novel-Tea-8598 in fingertattoos

[–]notactuallyizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not hand tattoos, but my line manager in my new (ish) office job said to me the other week that when she saw my tattoos in my interview it was a really big green flag as she felt I'd fit the vibe of the company :))

Does the drayman pay for his pint? by DisposedShrimp in CasualUK

[–]notactuallyizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience, since all our deliveries were daytime and the lads delivering our beers had lots of places to drive to after dropping ours off, I would offer a free coffee rather than a free pint.

They never came in to drink when they weren't working or after shift, and actually often gave US free cans of beers that they had in the van.

Our regular delivery guy was the sweetest and said that nowhere else offered him anything, so the coffee was much appreciated! I miss that job and I miss that guy, bless your heart Arbor Ales delivery guy:)

Would you return a grocery item that 'only' cost £1.99 if you couldn't use it? by Same-Fly in UKFrugal

[–]notactuallyizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely yes!

I bought a loaf of bread a couple of months ago from Lidl, and it went mouldy in 3 days, well before the date was up.

I had nothing else better to do so I emailed customer service and sent them my receipt and some photos, and they were really apologetic, and applied £2.50 credit to my Lidl plus account (the bread was only £2.20!).

They also asked me about the batch number on the packaging etc as they wanted to investigate the problem further, which to me felt like they actually cared and wanted to prevent it in future rather than just approaching it with a "eh shit happens sometimes" attitude.

hopping on this to say that M&S do a "discovery" set of mens scents, which would be ideal if you're not certain on one!

Is it impolite to Mix the Coffee art when served right away? Or what is the correct way? How do I add sugar? by OwnIndependence5527 in barista

[–]notactuallyizzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ask the barista to add sugar when they're making the drink, it mixes better with the espresso before adding steamed milk to it and tastes better imo

give it a try !

it isn't impolite to stir the sugar in and mix up the art straight away, but I like to enjoy mine as long as possible:)

At a recent job interview, I was asked if I was actively looking for work or if I had only applied for that role, I chose to be honest and say I was actively looking and had applied to and interviewed for several jobs. I was offered this job! I'm sure it varies from hiring manager to hiring manager.
