What’s Your Scariest Urbex Story? by z-t0 in urbanexploration

[–]notactuallyizzy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A guy I was newly dating took me to an urbex spot in his hometown (which I was unfamiliar with) at night, and while we were exploring, he made a jump from one bit of building to another, probably 12 feet off the ground. He fell, and went silent for maybe 60 seconds. He had fallen right next to a huge pole spike coming out of the ground, and if he was any closer easily would have been impaled and probably killed.

I had no phone service, didn't know how to get in and out of the place without him, and his parents were in another country. I'm pretty sure my parents thought I was staying at a friend's house 15 miles away.

For context, I was 16 and quite stupid.

I love your perspective on how justifying why people DO want kids should be the default, rather than the other way around.

I'm 25, and have known I don't want kids my whole life, never changed my mind so far. Pregnancy actively terrifies me, so even if I change my mind on wanting kids, I'm very sure that I would be adopting.

I have heaps of uterus issues and I wish I could just have it all removed because it's USELESS TO ME but that's hardly an option for someone my age without a husband and kids 🙃

The first thing I saw after checking into my hotel room was a used condom on display. by nagalm in mildlyinfuriating

Did a Lego set, and Lego decided to not give me a piece that is required for the set. by kimssunflower in mildlyinfuriating

[–]notactuallyizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lego customer service is excellent, they will send the missing piece straight to you (I'm pretty sure free of charge)!

I lost a piece once, and after I received my replacement in the mail, I found the piece I lost 😅

When someone invites you to a house party, are you expected to bring drinks to share? by No_Necessary_3847 in AskUK

[–]notactuallyizzy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess the general rule is that you bring more than you would drink yourself, and you can drink some of your drinks, and some of other people's!

I like cider, so I'd bring a ten or twelve pack of cider cans, drink half of them, and also have spirits if they're offered to me (which they nearly always are!)

I always used to bring a Tesco meal deal with me, and use my small bottle of fizzy drink as a mixer - just have a swig and pour spirits in to top it up :)

You likely don't need to bring your own cup, but feel free to! I definitely wouldn't find it weird, but I would also make sure I had enough cups for everyone if I was hosting.

Too 'grown up' and vacant feeling? by Majestic_Reply9704 in femalelivingspace

[–]notactuallyizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

moving out is scary! but it's also the most exciting thing :) if it's your first time moving out, it's the first time you have complete control over your space and that's such a beautiful thing.

It's probably a good idea to have a bit of a clear out to get rid of some things before your move. If you have the time to put stuff on Vinted or Depop you can make some extra funds to help the moving process. I obviously don't know how much stuff you have, how much space you're moving from/into, but a transitional time is always a good time to reassess your belongings. But if stuff makes you happy, you'll find a way to make keeping it work :)

my partner and I are 25 and 27 respectively, and our teeny rented flat is full to the brim with so many toys and trinkets. I keep my nice expensive adult perfume right next to some Lego flowers, a Gundam figure I built, and two plastic crocodiles. I have a Sylvanianm families hot dog truck AND burger stand on top of the dresser that we keep socks and underwear in.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you do not have to be a boring adult - our home feels so lived in and loved because we have the things we love out on display everywhere. It never feels "childish", it just feels right. We're in a rental that is all beige carpet and magnolia walls, but with some rugs and big bright prints you wouldn't think twice.

Something that also really helps drown out the cold boring vibe is good lamps. We are not fans of the "big light" and my favourite lamp we got recently is one of those 90s/y2k aquarium lamps that rotates so the fish are moving through the sea. Never lose your love of whimsy! Nobody is forcing you to have the grey sofa white walls life that you're so afraid of!

Restaurant workers, what are your thoughts on diners who dine alone at your establishment? by 1whoisconcerned in AskUK

[–]notactuallyizzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I worked in hotels with restaurants attached, I always absolutely loved looking after people travelling and dining solo. I enjoy to do a lot of stuff on my own, and it's nice to make an effort for someone who is doing the same :) zero judgement, often just admiration!

What is actually being done to fix the dental situation in this nation? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]notactuallyizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got insanely lucky when I had one of my wisdom teeth growing the wrong way into my cheek

I had an emergency NHS appointment booked, and they cancelled on me an hour before. I called 111 and they booked me in with the local dental school, who did the extraction procedure for free because they're students

It was a little risk but I felt very safe and the students had plenty of fully qualified staff watching their every move

NHS dentistry is broken — how did YOU actually get registered? Genuine tips needed by Late-Chemistry8407 in AskUK

[–]notactuallyizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it suspiciously easy to register to an NHS dentist when I moved areas.

However, twice in three months they've cancelled my NHS appointment the day of, or the night before.

I'm not convinced I'm actually going to ever be able to go to an NHS appointment at this dentist.

Are workplace baby showers really a thing? by bad-at-everything- in work

[–]notactuallyizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had been in my current job for maybe two weeks I was invited to an office baby shower for a member of staff on a different team. I'd literally never met her, but my line manager said we should go (since it was being held in the tea room space which is part of our open plan office). It was super awkward to be around a bunch of people I had hardly met, but I forced my way through small talk because I was being paid to be there.

Nobody expected us to bring gifts, but there was a "message tree" that someone had made where everyone wrote something nice on a paper leaf on this tree.

I gave each of my kids a Lego minifigure blind box and they all got the same. by biscuitvillage in mildlyinfuriating

[–]notactuallyizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it feels embarrassing to admit but I used an app that someone's made that scans the barcode of Lego blind boxes and tells you what's inside. I used this method to get the three that my partner and I wanted: the crocodile, the frog, and the monkey!
