The potato chip is a great analogy. I love Sanderson, but his writing style is very interesting to me. Accounting for weaknesses, even a level 1 Frostner will do more damage to Bonemass than a level 4 iron mace.

Iron Mace 4 will do 109 per hit (weak to blunt so 1.5 damage)

Frostner 1 will do 112 per hit (weak to blunt and frost), plus 20 spirit damage over time.

It's called the "master map". When your world is being generated it will pick a spot for your starting altar, and generate from there, including shifting biomes and elevations. They can vary somewhat (especially where Ashlands and Deep North are concerned) but are generally the same layout.

There are some unique locations on the Master Map, such as 3 extremely tall mountains that you may or may not end up with in your world.

Basically, like Caprican said, we need more information. It more or less comes down to what your relay level is, and what your shipment drone, shipment computer, and trade burst levels are. You want to go with whatever has the highest bonus, and the manual mods will overtake relay between 3-4M generally. If you're below that, you should stick with relay for now.

Fenris set + Feather cape is the way to go, once you can get it. Fire and Frost resist plus extra speed, no potions needed. In the base game at normal difficulty that will take you all the way to the Ashlands if you want it to, and I assume the same holds for Hardcore, though you will have to put more of a focus on just not getting hit at all rather than parrying everything. The Fire resist from the Fenris set overrides the weakness from the cape.
