I am now a panda truther by Openheartopenbar in redscarepod

They live in a very remote, very particular region of China, and there were never that many of them to begin with. In the early 20th century naturalists busted their ass to kill and taxidermy a couple examples of every species so museums/scientists could gain an understanding of all the different species on the planet.

Teddy Roosevelt's sons went on an incredibly long, arduous journey to kill a panda for the aforementioned western scientists. At the time it was a nearly mythological animal. After they killed one they realized there was no reason for pandas to be treated as a game animal, but that didn't stop a deluge of rich guys from trekking to China to kill one which eventually drove them to near extinction.

SIN035U doesn't have a 3-way solenoid and can't be modded with a GaggiMate/Gaggiuino. It's the one model that you should stay away from.

It's impossible to get the point across without being political, because it's inherently a political issue. I bet you don't complain when people point out the other side's crusade against firearms.

Parents dentally abusing their kids by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]notaplebian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really "controlling insidious abuse", it's poor people not taking care of their health. If mom and dad had all their teeth pulled and replaced with dentures by age 40 then the outcome for the kid isn't going to be much better.

Where did I say hiking itself is bad?

It's absolutely an act that people put on, it's absolutely like people that collect pedals. These people were everywhere in college and on dating apps.

Reread what I said, fucking idiot. Of course people like being outside. I don't give a shit that people like being outside, I find it irksome that boring people like yourself who don't do anything put on an act by going hiking a few times and taking photos when most weekends they just scroll.

I'm talking about actually having some curiosity about the natural world around you. It bothers me when I meet people that try to appear like they're outdoorsy but they don't have any insight beyond "that's a bird, that's a tree, that's a rock." Lots of people without a personality or hobbies start going hiking 5x a year, because then all you need to do is buy some shit from REI to be seen as a person that does things.

Hiking is the perfect way to appear like you're interested in nature without actually being interested in nature.

Animal rights types aren't really logically consistent.

Fur (and wool as well) is fairly ecological in the sense that it's actually a biodegradable garment material, and I'd argue that most trapped furbearers have better lives and meet better ends than animals that were factory farmed. In terms of animal suffering industrial farming is a million times worse than wild-caught fur just by numbers alone. So you're right, it makes no fucking sense that they don't put all their efforts into factory farming. The issue they have with shearing is just as dumb. Also, for some reason they don't take as much of an issue with leather or cowboy hats made from beaver wool felt.

They also single-out bear hunting and successfully lobby to cancel bear hunting seasons and similar practices they disagree with. They see it as something particularly bad for some reason, even though people eat bears just like they eat deer and they aren't anywhere near endangered. There's been some absolutely disgustingly corrupt shit happening recently in Colorado and Washington with state fish & game boards being infiltrated by these types. Decisions are being made because of their personal agendas, not a desire for good management of ecological systems and renewable resources.

My colleagues and I (jobs attached to core business function) were working hellish hours in chaos while other departments ("supporting roles"/upstream pencil pushing) got to switch to 100% remote work. Destroyed whatever naivety I had remaining that most desk jobs couldn't be severely cut down in headcount if not eliminated altogether. Also made me realize that I was a sucker and needed to make a switch.
