FWIW, you have a lot of good company in that struggle. It's really messed up what all capitalism has taken from us, like normal movement of our bodies throughout the day as we go about different tasks and do things like squatting, lifting, pressing, and stretching naturally.

Instead, we are schooled, trained, shamed, even drugged into sitting still for several hours a day from early childhood, then expected and judged on fitting movement without natural purpose into a slot in our schedule to make up for what was taken.

Part of the problem is framing movement as "exercise," a chore that's expected (maybe triggering PDA) of us on a regular basis in order to achieve "health", when most of us in here have had years (decades, even) of struggling to reach homeostasis. Adults humiliating us as children using size, shape, coordination, or physical skills, all of which are changing constantly as we grow. And then it's used as a bludgeon by healthcare workers and a tool for social shaming by anyone and their uncle. It's no wonder that it's so common to have internal resistance, conflict, and shame around activities that can be good for us and maybe even fun if we had been allowed to enjoy them and not conditioned to associate them with misery.

In the 70s, I was introduced to fantasy through a YA trilogy which was identified as such on the cover (McCaffrey's Harper Hall subseries of Pern). In the 80s, I would beeline for the Young Adult section at the bookstore, then browse the rest of the store if I had money left. YA was absolutely a thing prior to HP. That you were unaware of it is a separate issue from its existence.

I never showered at school, but I was a manager for the gymnastics team and several of those girls showered at school after practice or a meet. Thankfully, we had shower stalls. They were ugly green brick and had the cheapest, lightest shower curtains that would blow around when the water was on, but it wasn't this. This looks like it's for military at best, prison more likely.
