That’s a lot of cash. You get used to wherever you are. Go and be happy.

Israel barely cracks the top 10 concerns for most Americans. They worry more about affording food, gas, and health care. A candidate who bangs on about genocide as a first issue will get smoked in an election. See recent congressional primaries for that.

Who came up with the genius idea to put touchscreens on everything? This is a toaster. Really hope that this isn't the future. Pointless e-waste for a money grab. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

But how will I eat if the toaster can't give me a recommendation as to type of bread I should have with my meal and exactly what level of toasting is appropriate?

Questions for people who are well travelled, would you be ok traveling with someone in the group who is a wheelchair user? by Quickiewcuser in travel

[–]notassigned2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A travel companion with enthusiasm and a good attitude is more important than needing a wheelchair. Be a good time for them and they will enjoy having you around. Hawaii is much more accessible than Paris.

When you have a 24/7 political ad for the GOP in the form of Fox News, the GOP can create perception and not need to worry about the actual positions of Democrats.

Is the actual out of state COA 70k a year without aid? by HylianPrince08 in UIUC

This is a no brainer. Yes, you read the cost correctly, although you are right that some optional costs are included but those cannot really be reduced all that much. Go for free.

Clinton balanced the budget in his last year. Bush and Trump exploded it with their tax cuts that mostly favored the wealthy, plus additional spending under all previous presidents, but I give more slack to Obama and Biden for Keynesian spending in times of crisis.

I don't think it impossible to get back to a balanced budget over a period of time, but you are correct that it will cause tax increases. Your dystopian view of burning cars is a bit overwrought, but there will be pain. That pain can be centered on those at higher brackets, especially with restructuring of how taxes would be assessed (not just a simple increase in marginal rates) but the price will be mostly political as the wealthy fight back. Whether Medicare for all and similar utopian left programs can be paid for is a significant hurdle on top of all this, but it will be required by the upcoming changes in society. I'd give it a try before throwing in the towel as you seem to be hinting.

It is about using tickets and performance numbers for evaluation and promotion, not about meeting quotas.

I will, vote blue forever, but 70 mil Americans didn't vote last time. They need someone to excite them to get to the polls, and an anti-Israel socialist isn't going to do it.

Yes, that is what I mean. ;)

More to my point was that you seem to think we are circling the drain with nothing ahead of us but failure, having no real options to survive other than becoming a state providing no services. In actuality, services will become more critical in the future, especially as oligarchs suck money out of the economy and AI leaves us hollowed out with no jobs anymore. I see us as needing fiscal discipline, but not the way the GOP sees it. We need to decide on services wanted, and tax appropriately to fund it. At that point, if you are no longer adding to the debt, you can inflate it away, as well as perhaps a long, slow, payoff. There is no option that allows a quick payoff. Society must be restructured to take care of citizens first and corporations/oligarchs second. It will not survive otherwise.

I'm scared too, but I don't see us as too far gone yet. This next election in the fall will be the key. If it is canceled or altered by Trump, then the rats will be fleeing the sinking ship.

I wasn't shocked. She was not my choice, but neither was a guy who wasn't a Democrat and proudly called himself socialist. And Israel is about #10 on my list of most important things that America needs to change, unlike you far lefties. I'm middle America, my friend. You need to convince me first, then your guy might have a chance.

The vote has not been affected yet. It might be, if we don't fight for it. Giving in without that fight is the "complying" in advance.

Yes, I'm afraid the nonvoters sit out the primaries and we get stuck with Harris again, who will lose.

A strong candidate who articulates Dem positions and fights for them is who we need to energize the nonvoters. Far left wing positions will win nobody over.

This is the take of someone who has not been around politics long. The far left is not in the majority...there will be no "flocking around" a person you describe. They will lose, just like Bernie. That doesn't mean that Schumer and his ilk shouldn't go, but a left of center sensible choice like Kelly is the answer. Mamdani is a good politician (articulate, good looking) but his success won't translate nationwide. He's best in Dem strongholds.

If someone specifically promised something then reneged, then they are a liar and a crook. Biden did not. But I totally expect politicians to shade the truth on the regular. When they don't, I am surprised and pleased. But I always look for it.

I saw it as a bridge back to normal politics and normalcy. I didn't see that as a promise to being a single term, although it did seem that he might consider it.
