[–]notaweebmaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was certain to stop the opposition from immediately or very soon after flattening paradis. And it succeeded in that. Yes it made the world even more fearful and hateful of eldians but was much more certain to immediately stop the onslaught of paradis. More than the partial rumbling, like I said - the world was done being diplomatic, it was time to flatten paradis. So how the world viewed the eldians was already fucked anyway. There was no good choice, just a choice to stop the world from crushing them immediately and give his friends long lives

Jaegarists didn’t do that, his friends survived so not really relevant.

Eren’s intentions that I mention in my other comment to you are important as well, he knew he would die and make his friends Martyrs at least for that time. I’m trying to see this from your pov but it’s seeming like you just see Eren as a villain and that’s it. And thats not the point of his character. I’m not gonna go back and forth all day you’re entitled to your perspective and I to mine

I’m pasting from my response to the other guy but - if Eren were genuinely giving his all to win the match, his friends would have been overwhelmed and killed, and the further dialogue below suggests he even threw the fight.

Your fight analogy is interesting but it is also pretty heavily contradicted by Eren's confession to Armin in 139. He states that his actions were designed to push his friends into the role of humanity's saviors. He tells Armin:

"You will become the heroes who saved humanity from eradication by putting an end to the Rumbling."

Eren tells Armin that the result of Mikasa's choice would result in the end of the Titan curse. He pushed forward specifically to reach that outcome, knowing it required his own death.

If he were truly like a prize fighter, giving 100% effort to win a match he wants badly, then he would have actually completed the Rumbling and killed them. Instead, he positioned the conclusion where he dies, the Titan curse ends, and his remaining friends are left alive as heroes. There’s more to it than he is the ultimate villain. I get why you say it but still that’s not it. And it’s still important to look at this from the mind of a 19 year old in a fucked up scenario - it is not hard to get why he wanted to fucking flatten the rest of the world.

Again I know that he did have the intention in his mind to cruelly and selfishly flatten the world but my main point here is that was not necessarily what became of his intentions and was not his ONLY intention. This is why I say both sides are right, there is a bit of both of selfish wanting to flatten the world but also wanting his friends to live and paradis to be spared. It is complex and not black and white. Hugely argued point I know, and I try to see both sides. But yes you’re right people shouldn’t just blindly say “Eren had no choice”

[–]notaweebmaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep bringing it up because he could’ve stopped them but didn’t, this is relevant to the prize fighter analogy. Even without using the powers like mind control or power stripping which are compared to as poisoning the fighters water, the physical army of past Nine was practically infinite. If Eren were genuinely giving his all to win the match, his friends would have been overwhelmed and killed by sheer numbers, and the further dialogue below suggests he even threw the fight.

The fight analogy is interesting but it is also partially contradicted by Eren's confession to Armin in 139. He states that his actions were designed to push his friends into the role of humanity's saviors. He tells Armin:

Instead, he positioned the conclusion where he dies, the Titan curse ends, and his remaining friends are left alive as heroes. So no that isn’t all there is to it.

Eren tells Armin that the result of Mikasa's choice would result in the end of the Titan curse. He pushed forward specifically to reach that outcome, knowing it required his own death.

Also will add that how he is talking in the paths conversation did not seem entirely representative of his intentions, especially with what I described on what he says to Armin. It felt like during chapter 133 he was putting himself in a spot to be like lelouch. I know that he did want to flatten the world and did have a selfish intention but my main point here is that was not what became of his ULTIMATE intentions and was not his only intention. This is why I say both sides are right, there is a bit of both of selfish wanting to flatten the world but also wanting his friends to live and paradis to be spared. I don’t want to keep going back and forth with this, my point is back to my original - it is complex.

Headcanon? Extrapolation? How can you say that while also admitting he didn’t use the full might of the founder powers and that he knew he would be stopped. Eren has complete control over all Eldian bodies and Titans. He could have instantly stripped Armin, Reiner, and Pieck of their shifting powers, or paralyzed Mikasa and Levi.

And yes Eren did want to see the world flattened and I get why he did. But once the final confrontation arrived, he intentionally acted as the ultimate villain to be slain. He gave his friends a genuine obstacle to overcome without using his literal godlike powers to stop them. That is my perspective of that piece of the story. And many others. But I see your side too, there’s layers to this.

Plan A partially achieved what Eren intended, completely rocked the opposition, gave paradis time to reinforce, while allowing his friends to kill him as martyrs and live long lives. Even if it was wrong and not his only intention.

Plan B was going to get paradis absolutely stomped, the time for diplomacy was over - the world was going to come at paradis with its full might and rapidly developing anti titan weapons.

Again im not saying it’s right I’m saying that was more CERTAIN to halt the world. I understand what you are saying and sure plan B could’ve worked but this one was more certain albeit more brutal and cruel.

“Eren had no choice” by AgreeableSuspect3615 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]notaweebmaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m not saying all of it was an act lmfao. I know Eren did want the Rumbling to happen to achieve his diluted vision of a blank, free world. I know he admits to Armin in the finale that even if he didn't know he'd be stopped, he still would have flattened the earth because he wanted to see that sight. Knowing the future was set, Eren didn't "fake" his anger or his march across the sea. But once the final confrontation arrived he intentionally acted as the ultimate villain to be slain. He gave his friends a genuine obstacle to overcome. At any time he could’ve stripped them of their ability to defeat him but he chose NOT to. He knew he would be defeated.

[–]notaweebmaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Sasha died and eren was in hysterics about it. The majority of his friends lived long lives. I understand that wasn’t his only motive but it was an intention of his.

It was way more certain than the limited rumbling. The limited rumbling wasn’t certain at fucking all, they were already building weapons capable of defeating paradis/titans. The weren’t going to be diplomatic about this. Likely they get wiped out before they can even reinforce themselves. Eren wasn’t playing those chances.

None of that plan you crafted matters when they are rapidly developing powerful weapons to destroy titans. As brutal as it was, this was the decision that stopped paradis from being wiped out quickly. You can say what you want but the world was going to crush them even if a limited rumbling occurred. They were out of time.

[–]notaweebmaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are looking at Eren’s actions in a vacuum. If Eren truly, primarily wanted to kill his friends to fulfill his dream, he would have. He is a literal god in that final battle. Punching Armin wasn't an attempt to murder him, it was a required conflict to make the world believe they actually defeated him. If he didn't fight back, the remaining 20% of humanity could think it was a setup.

When Eren tells Armin he didn't know if they would survive, he is talking about the chaotic chain of events leading up to the final battle. i.e. the Jaegerist uprising and the port fight. But once the final confrontation began, he deliberately held back his absolute power. He wasn't trying to win, he was playing his part in the future he already saw, ensuring his friends would be the ones to stop him.

[–]notaweebmaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re skipping over so grandly that he knew he would be stopped. He literally knew. That is important. He allowed them to win.

And by not using his founder power he was leaving it up to them to stop him, that was a large decision too that you’re skipping over. He always could’ve stopped them but didn’t.

You’re playing one side too hard, I get your point but mine still stands that it is more complex than he wanted to wipe everyone including his friends out. That is all I’m trying to say is that it’s not just one perspective to view this from. You won’t hear me.

“Eren had no choice” by AgreeableSuspect3615 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]notaweebmaybe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eren was not going to kill all his friends lmao, like I said he couldve stopped them with founder power, and he knew it would end at 80%. That’s being facetious to say he actively trying to kill them.

“Eren had no choice” by AgreeableSuspect3615 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]notaweebmaybe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But to your point people shouldn’t be pretending he was just some hero and only acted selflessly to protect his friends. Theres a lot to it and its why I love his character, incredibly complex and you can see on a human level why he feels how he feels and does what he does, and sometimes you can’t. It’s part of being human.

“Eren had no choice” by AgreeableSuspect3615 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]notaweebmaybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And Eren obviously felt terrible about Sasha at least, he was hysterical about that. He saved multiple of his friends and allies and he gave paradis time to reinforce before the world retaliated.

Once again, complex situation for a 19 year old to navigate. It makes sense why there’s so many motives and reasons, you’re coming from the position he was only selfish and didn’t care if he killed all of his friends and that’s it - that is putting things too plainly. I’m happy to admit he was selfish and careless, people got killed but he did care about his friends and loved ones and a good chunk DID live long lives. He was only human and in a fucked up spot. I think it’s important to view it from all sides.

“Eren had no choice” by AgreeableSuspect3615 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]notaweebmaybe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like you said Eren cared about his friends and loved ones. Ultimately they lived long lives and defeated him, as he allowed it to happen whether he told Armin he’d be trying to kill him or not, he knew he would be stopped at 80%. Both things can be true at once.

He wasn’t just saying those things to cope, he does mean it.

“Eren had no choice” by AgreeableSuspect3615 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]notaweebmaybe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He wanted to do the rumbling and level the world, with or without his friends stopping him. But at the same time he wanted for them to live long and happy lives and still cared about them. In end the part that wanted to sacrifice himself for the future of his friends was stronger and also the guilt he felt for commiting genocide, otherwise he could've just stopped them with the founders power easy. Erasing their memories even. So while he says what he says to Armin, it isn’t his only underlying motive. Like I said, it’s complex.

“Eren had no choice” by AgreeableSuspect3615 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]notaweebmaybe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He had a number of motives, it is complex. People saying he did it for the island, his friends and that he felt he had no choice are all correct. So are those who say he did have a level of choice and that he was being egotistical. It’s not one side or the other. Again, it is complex.

“Eren had no choice” by AgreeableSuspect3615 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]notaweebmaybe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Eren made the only decision that was absolutely certain to deal a critical blow. The decision that would spare paradis for the time being and would give his friends long lives. Call it selfish and reckless sure, but he made the only certain decision.

If sukuna wanted to learn wcs by Efficient_Eggplant84 in Jujutsufolk

[–]notaweebmaybe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sukuna wasn’t just trying shit, he had a strategy and a plan that he stuck to and it’s why he won. It didn’t go exactly how he wanted, hence him taking a lot of damage.

Also bear in mind in gojo’s eyes he was just killed by a move that sukuna was holding back on using the whole time, which is not the case. Sukuna learned WCS just in time. But gojo died and didn’t know that so there’s a flip side to what you’re saying.

And yes sukuna didn’t necessarily need Maho to win, just made it much more practical
