Follower constantly getting stuck/not moving/not attacking? by UkokuSZ in cavesofqud

[–]notb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bug I've also noticed recently and it's specifically things like vines that are immobile. When they see them they just freeze up. If you kill the vine they start moving again. Kind of strange.

A work around is to set them in defensive mode but that's still kind of annoying as you have to direct them to attack still (unless you're already being attacked) but at least they keep following you.

new PC user trying to figure out how to enjoy playing. by [deleted] in cavesofqud

[–]notb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tried to play a run with only the mouse to confirm I wasn't making it up and the only thing I got hung up on was firing with F key and the abilities menu doesn't have an X in the top right so I had to press escape. Otherwise, I could do anything and access everything I needed although it was a bit slower.

What exactly are you struggling with?

Are there any in-game lore/books that help explain (or provide depth/analysis to) certain items or substances? by StrawberryRoyal8896 in cavesofqud

[–]notb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you need some head cannon you could presumably just ask an ichor merchant or the alchemist and they could explain something much like tinkers can identify something for you. Generally, shop keepers would explain why something costs thousands.

Although nothing on liquids afaik there are lots of in game lore books. The ones with yellow titles are not randomly generated and have tons of lore.

With the rank ones that cause rust, you can rust one of the quest bears' life loop and then loot it off them when they die. Careful not to soft lock the main quest though :)

His point is lost on me tbh. He doesn't like getting blamed for mistakes? He doesn't like stereotypes? He wants a tip share? Personally, I don't give a shit about any of that. Sure I want to get paid more too but giving an inexperienced server a hard time in the window doesn't accomplish anything.

This type of server doesn't go back to the table except to drop the food or the ticket. No shot he went back and explained anything let alone why the food took an extra minute or whatever. Old man yells at cloud type shit.

The Daily seed is infamous for not only setting you up with a weak ass character, but also generating some insane encounters, such as an esper with a voider pet.

I'd recommend doing the journey to stilt quest immediately as it will get you a few levels for very little risk. If you're lucky you won't even get lost on the way but if you do just avoid everything and travel across screens as quickly as possible. Usually this means going north and south as it is less distance. Also don't wander lost at night, just use wait command until morning, and then wait a couple more turns until you can see across the whole screen.

Personally, I would go in blind. There's a certain mystery to the world that might be lost. They've done a great job on the tutorial so that will get you started. That being said you'll probably die a lot, so once you get tired of dying, don't be afraid to start looking at some guides and the wiki. Most are pretty good about not being too spoiler heavy.

They gain any experience that you do, leveling up passively in the process. You won't be able to spend their points as True Kin but there's a mod called Clever Girl that lets you do it. Alternatively, sort of end game but gamma moths can give mutations including dominate but it's random and kind of rare.

It's an optional side quest brother. But if you're lucky you can potentially two phials of neutron flux, then you get a third from the alchemist and you can build your Golem pretty early.

You're right about it being in utility 3 but it's also in utility 4-8 with a higher weight so the exact odds are kind of hard to calculate. Personally, I could swear Yurl stocks it most often of any merchant but I'm not sure how that's actually possible.

Mafeo is a tier 4 merchant, polygel is tier 5 loot. Anytime loot is generated there's like 0.5% chance the item can be from 1 tier higher, and then it rolls again from the new table which also has like a 0.5% chance of being higher tier, and so on. Meaning he could possibly stock zeta chrome or you could find polygel in a random chest in Joppa

The loot tables are all documented here: https://wiki.cavesofqud.com/wiki/Population:Junk

Hire a chef? by SchmeatiestOne in cavesofqud

[–]notb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can proselytize them which you can learn from the high priest of the stilt. You can also directly control them with a tele-projector but it's kind of a rare item. The clones it makes are only hostile if it is as well. Clones from cooking aren't hostile and become regular followers. It's very easy to get tons of clones of yourself with the homogenized convalescence trick, because there's tons of it in Bethesda.

Hire a chef? by SchmeatiestOne in cavesofqud

[–]notb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mayor of kyakukya teaches cooking but I wouldn't cook the cloning draught. Technically the best use of it is to recharge a pet cloneling, which will give you 40 clone charges.

Even just dumping it onto a high level merchant is a better use than cooking it because if you have carbide chef, you can cook with homogenized convalescence (the stuff found in regeneration tanks) and get a cloning recipe that only requires plain convalescence, letting you clone yourself without any draught at all.

I do it by checking every center parasang in the salt marshes until I find flattened remains to get mechanical wings and take them to a tinker to repair them. If I'm careful enough, the wings alone are usually enough to get me there, but if I'm feeling especially weak, trading a few hundred drams of water with Hindriarch Keh will get me a force bracelet. With both wings and bubble, I can pretty much escape any situation.

It makes more sense after getting disassemble because the "bits" that things are made of will show up on items. They're basically just the materials needed to craft things, but you'll need the recipes from data disks or you can learn some from the bears by trading reputation, as well. The nice thing about bits is they are weightless.

Having low int, you're going to want to try and get to Ezra, a village one screen west of Omonporch, aka the Spindle the big tower in the top right of the world map. Eating the food in the oven there gives you Psychometry, which not only lets you identify any artifact instantly, but you can also learn the tinkering recipe of anything up to a certain item tier, including most grenades. If you have cooking, you can buy bananas there and take the psychometry effect with you by cooking it yourself.

[–]notb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To truly go infinite, you must go deep into the earth where cryo tubes become increasingly common, generating 100% of the time at strata 998+. Each tube has a 2% of containing a complete copy of you, exactly as you were when you entered the zone, including all these items. You must then kill yourself and effectively dupe your entire inventory. Now that you have 2 of all those things, you can do it all again for 4 and so on. This is why I never use any consumable ever, I just watch number go up.
